What: A sudden spike in the mushi population brings some trouble to the carnival.

[Following the recent disappearance of Ginko and Tanyuu’s mushi repellent, there will be a sudden increase in the number of mushi in the carnival this week.

[Scout is really missing Alola right now. These creatures were not a thing there, and since her jobs are 'scout' and 'repairwoman' she could have escaped them by going out there, probably, even if there were performances and guests going on. Several species of mushi will pursue her a little ways but not follow far. The problem is just that there are so many of them. She's spending a lot of time moving so they can't converge on her.

She sees someone in the lake - not swimming or wallowing but trembling in obvious misery - and pauses at the edge.]

Hey. Are you hurt?

[Doll winces as she looks up at the unfamiliar woman, and struggles to put her usual grin on her face. It's tenuous and trembling, but she manages.]

I'll be fine! Just... just have to ride this out, ha ha!

[It really hurts, but she's putting on a brave face.]

You don't look fine.

[Scout gets her boots off, standing on each leg in turn and extending her long tail for balance, and steps into the water.]

At the least you're in pain. Let me touch you, I can damp that down.

It's just growing pains, I must be startin' ta change, yeah?

[Doll has no tail or scales, she's practically brand new -- so it's probably not too much of a stretch for her to assume that's what's happening to her. But coming out into the middle of nowhere to ride it out is probably the dumb part.]

[She can't deny that she is hurting though. And doing something for it sounds really good. Gingerly, she reaches out her hand towards the other woman.]

Yeah alright...

Usually if it hurts a lot it's only for a few minutes, and otherwise it doesn't hurt, or it's a dull ache. Focused on one part of your body, too.

[There were exceptions, but they were unusual.]

And usually there's not mushi outbreaks happening at the same time. Here.

[Scout sweeps her hand through the water before grasping Doll's. Even with the water to cool it, she's uncomfortably warm, but if Doll tries to pull away her fingers will lock around the other's wrist. Anyway, after a moment there will be a strange sensation, almost a buzzing one. Serious pain will drop away and be replaced by mildly unpleasant pressure or pinpricks, maybe numbness. Scout is unable to be surgical when blocking the signal pain sends, and her blocks tend to affect other aspects of touch.]

Moo-she? [Doll frowns and tilts her head. She's never heard of that... she's pretty sure at least. Maybe in passing over the radio? So much happens over the radios though, a lot of it she's started to just treat as white noise.]

[She lets the other woman take her hand, but it does hurt-- like she's being squeezed by a hot poker. Doll lets out a brief gasp and whine of pain, trying to pull her hand away but her wrist is easily grabbed.]

Nononono it hurts, stop it!!

[The numbness is a blessing, and Doll makes another deflated whine as she unclenches into the water, her brow relaxing. She's been in pain for days, the relief even if it feels odd is welcome.] Blimey. [She sniffs, trying to suck her tears back in.] This is real hard.

[Scout hangs on mercilessly, frowning as she calls on the Force. When it's done she lets go and flexes her fingers. She doesn't apologize directly, but her tone is sympathetic.]

That'll last a few hours, at least. Look, changes are one thing, but they're never so cruel you're just permanently in pain and can't touch anyone. The Ringmaster's not evil.

[Strange, cracked, irresponsible, sure.]

This is a temporary thing. One way or another they'll get sorted out, because this isn't liveable.

Then what else could it be? [Doll doesn't feel overly hot anymore either, so she starts climbing out of the lake. It's strange to not feel anything while she does, but she's familiar enough with how her limbs move to know how to climb out of a lake.]

I don't think she's evil either-- she saved me, after all. Anything that happens t'me now is alright, I'm here and with my brothers.

[There's a note of impatience in Scout's voice now, though she tries to suppress it as she wades back up out of the water.] I told you. Mushi. They're almost like... insects. You know how insect bites will swell up and itch? Mushi effects are more exotic.

Yeah. Well, that's good. [If only she were so lucky. Coming back to the Carnival Scout had considered asking for the rest of the Jedi to be protected, but there are too many too scattered, and some have fallen.]

I'm Doll. [She stays in the water, looking a little small and miserable, and feeling small and miserable. But this will pass, she has to believe it will pass.]

Well that's just ridiculous. I wasn't bit by a bug, I would've remembered that.
