Strange notices. Childermass put out the fire with his hand, one doesn't have to be a doctor to realize that means at least his hand got burned, possibly more of him. Inwardly he again curses himself for his rashness. There's no harm in showing off. There is harm when someone gets hurt.
"I must have misjudged the distance," he offers as a weak explanation, absolutely apologetic all the while. No, this is all his fault, he rushed into things and tried to do too much too fast and congratulations, you set Childermass on fire.
(A little voice in the back of his head points out that Norrell never set anyone on fire. Strange seriously considers punting that little voice off a cliff.)
"Come," Strange says, offering a hand for Childermass to stand up. "We're going to the doctor."
It's the least he can do. Despite his intentions, he hurt Childermass, making certain the man gets proper medical treatment is literally the bare minimum he can do for his actions. Of course, Strange doesn't know yet that the doctor's a horse but she's in the doctor position, she must at least know some sort of healing arts.
