His are a little less abstract: he's looking at the floor for signs of recent disturbance-- like a heavy body being dragged in, blood, or perhaps even a lost piece of jewelry or two -- and he's also going to bring his medallion close to that sigiled door for a moment, waiting to see if it will react to indicate the presence of active magic.
