He nods, happy she understands even if it is kind of a depressing sentiment.

He knows serious topics like this have a tendency to make people uncomfortable. If he were his normal self right now he would make a joke to lighten the mood. He's not himself though, and so he doesn't think to ease any tension that might exist between them. He's having a hard time thinking of anything humorous right now even if he did want to.

It would be nice to have both though. He smiles weakly again. That just wasn't in the cards for someone like him.
