Irritation turns back to excitement as he looks back up at Childermass and that scowl melts right back into a grin. "Something did happen. The fiend hid it in the ice."
They know where it is! All the better, the sooner he can fix this, the sooner the carnival will get back to normal. Of course, now begins the problem of how to get the candle out.
