He doesn't respond immediately. It's not something he enjoys talking about, or explaining to others; his failure as a parent is truly pathetic, something he expects people to shame him for. As much time as he spends thinking about how to fix it, his continued failure only makes it more pitiful.

If anyone can understand, though, it would have to be Blue. On the other hand, that may make it worse. Surely, she wouldn't sit around and wait for her chances if her family were endangered.
