Well, she's not wrong there. When she rushes up to him, he holds very still, as if expecting to end up hugged regardless and planning on simply not reacting to it. It doesn't come to pass, however, and so he takes that as being free to move again, even if it is only to tilt his head curiously at the Ringmaster.

"I am here because of the note I left for you, though..." It's the other question that makes him pause to first frown at her, then try and give that serious thought.
