Lambert is, despite the way his mouth won't stop running, incredibly tired. Drowning in mud doesn't even seem like such a bad prospect right now, if only because it means he doesn't have to feel the ache in his bones and think anymore. Except, of course, Peridot can't simply let him rest -- the way she tugs at him is enough to rouse him, even if he ends up just looking at her with a tired expression. Half of his body is literally stone, Peridot; if this is what being a Gem is like they can keep it.
It's when she drops him and turns that he realizes she's about to do something stupid. It's easy to recognize, as someone whose life is largely comprised of making stupid decisions, but this is one he just can't allow.
"Calm down and go," he snarls, desperately shoving the last of his magic and willpower into the spell. Lambert throws his hand out hard enough to make him lurch out of the mud. There isn't time for explanations or apologies; he just needs Peridot to leave.
