Honestly, even if Foster attempted to explain the origins of this sword, he doesn't think anyone would believe it. No one would believe that a teenage girl gave it to him--and actually trusted him not to fall on it and die.
But it's true. And when the opportunity presents itself, he fully intends to put it to good use.

Maybe if he weren't a necromancer it wouldn't quite have that vibe. Then again, maybe not: Foster himself assumes that his reputation is equal parts one of treachery and incompetence, and both of those qualities have their own ways of acquiring a body count.
