It's truthfully been something his mind largely tunes out when other people talk about their magic. Mage, magician, it's all general and meaningless terms that doesn't actually explain what they do.
"Solas spoke of the Veil, but it's created? Is it not natural?" That makes it sound, in function, almost like the bloodstones. But the Veil holds back and aspect of reality, whereas those stones regulated an element. "How long has the Veil been around?"
