As previously established, Strange is a dirty cheater. He hears the rumbling, senses that Rita's getting her magic going, and then straight up turns into smoke before the impact hits. Victory!
Floating out of the range of the stalagmites, Strange resolidifies, looking way too smug at the fact that this is the second time he's escaped getting dunked in the moat (which of course means that he's going to get tossed in the water sometime before this afternoon is up, stop tempting fate, Strange).
"I don't know why you're blaming me," he complains with a little shrug. "You're the one who wanted to see how the spell worked." And then, tempting fate, Strange takes up the teasing as well, that smug expression turning into a teasing one. "Besides, you should be grateful that Lambert didn't make me say what you thought of 9S!" he says, knowing perfectly well that Lambert might take this opportunity to mindwhammy Strange into blabbing about what Rita thinks of 9S.
