Dupree does a pretty good job of staggering itself, as well, which might be the only reason Alphys isn't tossed in the air and bitten in half like a dog treat. He staggers, which is a pretty scary thing for a t-rex to do, and then shakes his head to try and throw Alphys off of him while she's out.
