Thankfully, Strange has a preacher for a brother-in-law. As such, while he's not the most well-versed in religion, he's versed enough to give a halfway decent explanation. "According to what I believe, it's decided if a person is 'good' or 'bad' based on how well they follow the Bible and the doctrines of Christ—my religion's Christianity, by the way. The Bible is the guidelines of Christianity and Christ is the son of our god who came down to Earth to spread his word."
