In fairness to him, he did slam her pretty good, and it's aching. Otherwise it was a total change in fortunes for her.

She spins the other knife around in her hand as she shifts around to make sure nothing's broken, then shrugs in a sharp abrupt motion.

Because if he expected she'd just stand and take getting attacked, he's really not good at this fighting thing. See: she's checking that wounded area, seeing whether the knife pierced him and stayed there, or if it ricocheted. Either way, the moment they get close enough again, she's swinging around with a punch at it.
