Reira isn't getting all of the details. Why would she, she's a kid. Lord knows her worldview is simple enough that she'd chastise him for doing what they wanted or going along with the enemy's plans or what have you. She's too young: she wouldn't understand that when all your options are terrible ones, it pays to pick what you think is the most terrible.
