Zangetsu does manage to save Syrlya's sword from crashing to the ground, making sure his passenger gets it back.

Unfortunately, that distraction keeps him from moving out of the way of a large piece of weaponized skybridge debri. It hits him square in the chest and gut and sends him reeling back, losing precious distance and his bead on Peridot.
