"But... He's my friend," she says, as if repeating that will help clarify her dilemma at all. "He's nice to me. And, you're supposed to stick by your friends, right?" She's pretty much saying this all out loud for her own benefit, and not just to pose the question to Steven. "But, you're also my friend, and he keeps treating you like dirt!"

Her expression, as she lays this all out, is tormented and pleading. She's had to deal with friend based conflicts like this before, thanks to Lapis's time in the carnival, but this feels different and new for a couple of reasons. She's not used to seeing Steven not... liking people? It sets off all kinds of red flags.
