The second that Peridot starts to run in, Steven (and, by proxy, Lion and Amethyst) are going in too. Lion seems very on edge about the whole thing, but in a 'it's time to fight' kind of way. Steven is on edge, too, but more in the vein of being afraid that everyone is going to melt or something.
Ever since they came in there, he's been able to sense the Ringmaster's emotions. She's confused and aggressive... the Huntsman must be pressuring her, an everyone flocking in is probably triggering some kind of instinctive reaction.
"Don't get too close!" Steven calls out, relieved to see Syrlya vanish away instead of getting ground into the earth. "She feels like she's being attacked!"
Because she is, in reality, but it's mentally instead of physically.
"Amethyst," he explains more quietly, "I'm going to try something, and it might be dangerous, so..."
