[OPEN]
Who: Ginko and ANYONE
Where: Wherever animals are kept
When: Variable? Let’s say anytime in the week after Orientation (10/16-10/23)
What: Ginko tries to do his job, with “tries” being the operative word
Warnings: weird animals? Potentially bitey weird animals? To be added as necessary
A carnival can’t be fully experienced with just one sense. Just looking or listening isn’t enough; taking it all in requires much more than that. Of course, while smelling one’s surroundings might bring its own benefits in other parts of the carnival… well. Not so much here, unless you really like the smell of wet fur, animal waste, and lots of hay.
The menagerie is unlike any zoo that could be found in most worlds, if only for the sheer variety of animals kept there. The Ringmaster likes to pick up specimens from different worlds, the more unusual the better, and the end result is… well, not necessarily chaotic. But it’s definitely highly varied, and pretty strange.
Most hours of the day, anyone who happens to wander into the area, by accident or intentionally, is likely to run across Ginko at some point. He’s always been inclined to take his work seriously, and that certainly hasn’t changed since he started working here. The fact that he’s the only veteran keeper left after the recent mass exit doesn’t really help matters, either, and the end result is that he spends even more of his time in the menagerie than could be accounted for just by regular shifts.
Depending on when one comes by, he may just be mucking out the stalls - but a lucky visitor (or one who has the schedule memorized) may come by for feeding time, or in time to watch the process of grooming or exercising those animals that need it.
Closed to Bonnie
Ginko has to admit, after several weeks of trying to keep up with all these animals on his own, he's pretty glad to be getting help again... though he'd be happier about it if it weren't from a young child who clearly doesn't want to be here.
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot he can do about that but to try and make sure this is as good an experience for her as it can be - which means making sure she's as prepared as possible for the work ahead.
It's fairly early when it comes time for Bonnie's first work day, but not ridiculously so. Ginko's already fed those animals that need to eat early, and he's waiting at the edge of the menagerie when she arrives, cigarette in hand and elbows resting on the fence. He raises his free hand when she gets close, giving a small smile. "Hey. You ready to meet these guys?"
((OOC: Closed prompts might be added later! For open stuff, feel free to take a look at this (in-progress) spreadsheet to get an idea of what all animals there are! If you want to assume something is there but aren't sure you should, just message me.))

Greg himself has made a point to keep quiet and out of the way while working; there's nothing exciting or magical or noteworthy about doing lights, so ideally no one should take notice. He's a normal guy who's super normal, all the time, don't mind him. It works well enough in most areas, but today he's a bit distracted and not paying proper attention, letting himself fall into routine rather than thinking it through. Perhaps a menagerie full of strange creatures with specific individual needs isn't the best place to start flashing lights at.

When the lights start flashing, though, the enormous rodent stops what it's doing, the more mobile of its heads looking around to look for the source, pulling away from Ginko in the process. He sighs and follows its gaze, giving a brief wave with one hand.
"Hey, uh-- would you mind doing that a bit later? Trying to keep this guy still can be pretty tough as it is."

Greg squints through the light, before turning it off one more time. It takes a few seconds of blinking for him to register the rodent hydra Ginko's handling.
"Oh--oh. Sorry about that, I..." He winces, rubbing at his jaw. It's been really killing him lately. "There a better time I should come by, or like... do some of these guys need to live in eternal shadow that I should know about?"
no subject
"Nah, they can handle a little light. Just kind of distracting. Actually, if you can hang around for a few minutes, I only have a couple more to groom after Rex here. Then you can flicker all the lights you want. ...Within reason, anyway."

Did he glance very pointedly at Greg as he said that? Quite possibly, but now he's picked up a soapy brush to scrub out that mysterious sticky spot.

"That obvious, huh?"

"I don't really have any right to tell you how you should and shouldn't react to all this. Just a matter of what works out for you."

Already, he feels bad for this little bit of venting. Surely Ginko didn't plan on playing therapist to a stranger when he started working today.
no subject
He almost definitely didn't plan to do this, but he sure doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

"If... if it's all right for me to ask... how was it when you first got here?"

"...It wasn't bad, though, overall. I didn't much like having my freedom taken away like that, but I knew it wasn't forever and at least there was already someone I knew here. So I just went with it as well as I could, enjoyed seeing all these new things, and... I suppose it just clicked at some point."

He hums in thought, leaning against a pen and looking over the sleeping chain chomp inside. "When I was younger, I would've loved a chance like this." He rubs his jaw. "Ehh, maybe not exactly like this. Same kinda idea, though. Just gotta tap into that sorta mindset again, I guess."
no subject
"I know some people handle it by just thinking of it like an adventure. Just trying to shift how you look at it can be pretty helpful. Not for everyone, obviously, but it's probably worth a shot, right?"
no subject
Wait, he said that out loud. Greg clears his throat, seizing the opportunity to change the subject from his sulking. "Ah, have you met Steven yet? Dark hair, yay high? He's pretty good about getting into everyone's circle, but it's early."

He turns back to start hosing down the shoopuf, speaking over the sound of the hose. "He seemed to think we needed to talk; guess it looks like that would've come about one way or another, huh?"
