what's cooler than being cool? ice cold
Who: everyone!
What: hey wait a minute, why's it suddenly cold oh for fuck's sake Strange...
Where: the carnival + Alola
When: all of day 76!
Warnings: none, will edit if needed
the Carnival
Surprise, it's now winter.
Starting from the early hours of day 76, the Carnival is covered in snow, the temperature rapidly dropping from 'nice' to 'freezing.' Patterns of frost cover everything and icicles dangle from most buildings. Try to be careful as you're walking around, patches of the ground are frozen over and incredibly slick. Nobody be that dumbass who tries to stick their tongue to the ferris wheel, you're just going to regret it later. Enjoy the fact that almost anything that used to be a liquid is now frozen solid. All in all, it's like someone flipped a switch from summer to winter--there was absolutely no sign something like this would happen in the first place. Why not ask around to see what's up? Or, just enjoy the change of weather and pelt your friend in the face with a snowball, that's also an option. The Carnival re-enacting the plot of Frozen lasts all day, though things finally start to melt and/or magically vanish once dusk settles.
For all you vampires who've slept through most of this, the effects of winter still linger a bit after the faerie's vanished, though in slowly diminishing form. The temperature's a bit warmer and some of the liquids have started to melt, but it's still a bit uncomfortable. It's hard to clean up an entire magical wintery hellscape by yourself, okay?
Alola
Due to the way the Carnival drops people in Alola, it's entirely possible to miss the fact that something weird's going on at the Carnival. Still, some of the winter wonderland manages to seep it's way into the tropical paradise. For most people, the changes are noticeable but easily dealt with. The temperature drops to something more chilly but not downright freezing. Occasionally there are small flurries of snow, but they'll end up melting fairly quickly. Locals are downright confused, mentioning that really, it shouldn't be this cold, this weather is weirdly unseasonable.
Also, what's that weird little ice fox that keeps showing up? More and more ice Pokemon feel a little bit braver thanks to the cold temperatures and are willing to venture out into areas that ice Pokemon might not normally live in. Go train all your fire cats by having them beat up the sentient ice cream cones, everybody.

"Whether you claim any authority over her or not, the fact remains that you have kidnapped someone from English soil--and apparently numerous others judging by your words. I command you to free Arabella Strange from your realm and bring her to me now!"
There's a little hitch in his voice despite the fact that Strange is just trying to keep it together, trying to seem so imposing and competent and like someone who knows what he's doing. He's so wrapped up in this that he doesn't notice the first sign he summoned the wrong faerie: Her Majesty. At least in Strange's early 1800s, England had a king.

They repeat his name with a particular chill, as if they have become more dominating simply by having knowledge of it.
"Since you went through all the trouble, though... humour me! What would you give me were I to have her safely restored? Your magic? Your soul?"
no subject
"As you said, I am fairly powerful. Undoubtedly I will have an object of equally great power within a year." After all, the Carnival stopped at Atlantis, who's to say it wouldn't stop at other places filled with objects of magical power? "If you bring Arabella to me now, in less than a year's time I shall summon you to deliver the object. If those terms are not agreeable, then I will storm your realm to save her myself."
He is straight up bluffing and, despite Strange's valiant attempts to keep a poker face, it shows.

"If only you could see yourself!" they say, "Talking so boldly!" The life sized snow sculpture will move, its mouth miming the words as the fae mockingly repeats them "-then I will storm your realm to save her myself!"
"You would have been better off offering your soul... perhaps you could settle for being reunited in Arcadia as servants?"
no subject
"I summoned you here, remember? And you will remain here, under my power for as long as I see fit."
The bluffing and trying to seem like he knows what he's doing continues. Though Arcadia...that's a name he's going to remember.

"But think, Jonathan Strange. Do you really want me here?"
The way the last far is said is daunting, much like the way they say his name is. Of course, then the fae flutters over to he candle that Strange had set down at the start. They lift it up in a hand, moving quickly.
"Ooh, what's this do?"
no subject
And yet, he can't help but worry that he made a terrible mistake. That worry only gets verified when the fae picks up the candle.
Well that's not good. Strange lunges over towards the candle as he attempts to yank it from their grasp. There's a sense of urgency in his voice that he's desperately trying to hide as he snaps,
"Put that down!"
no subject
And with a swirl of their hands, the candle freezes into a block of ice - flame included. Paradoxically, it's as if the flame has been frozen in time instead of in water. Forever burning, and yet not burning at all.

Almost instantly, Strange starts preparing a counterspell. However, the problem with English magic is that a lot of it is verbal based. So, as Strange starts muttering a counterspell under his breath to melt the ice, there's a precious few seconds where the fae can cast a spell of their own to stop Strange, magic the frozen candle out of the trailer, or stop him in a mundane way. After all, it'll be a bit hard to keep one's concentration if there's a snowball to the face.

"Now where did you bring me, anyw- aaay... oh. OH. Oh no, you didn't." They put a hand to their mouth, and turn around to look at Strange in shock after getting a good look at the trees and trailers surrounding them.
"You did! You've brought me straight into the Beast's lair!"

By the time he's scrambled back to his feet and brushing the snow off himself, the fae's already opened the door and has gotten a good look outside. And their reaction is...well, confusing to say the least.
"The Beast?" said as he rubs snow away from his eyes. "What on--you're talking about the Ringmaster, aren't you?"
no subject
The fae grins devilishly, considering their surrounding. They lift the crystallized candle in a hand.
"Oh well! Thanks for the free rider, human!"
And with a gust of icy wind, the fae flies off. The sky is already starting to turn grey with approaching clouds, and the grass is gathering the beginnings of frost.
Whoops.

Time to start the magical equivalent to throwing everything at the problem in the hope that something will actually work.
