MUSHI DISASTER

Who: Anyone and everyone; it’s a mingle-style log!
What: A sudden spike in the mushi population brings some trouble to the carnival.
When: Around day 87-90
Where: All around the carnival
Warnings: Illness, potentially some minor body horror, and so on

[Following the recent disappearance of Ginko and Tanyuu’s mushi repellent, there will be a sudden increase in the number of mushi in the carnival this week.

This is a mingle-style log, so just post a toplevel, tag out, and have fun with mushi disasters! Event information and questions are here.]

[ That ... is probably something he should have thought of sooner, but certain unlike other people in the Carnival, Lambert isn't exactly the type to carry around easily transported writing supplies. If he realized she was some kind of mage herself however, that would explain everything.

In any case, when she offers the notepad and pen to him, he nods quickly, looking a touch surprised at first, and then grimly determined. Whatever fae magic allows them to understand each other's words here lets him read other's writing as well, thankfully, and he takes the pen and notepad. Handling it a little clumsily (it's not the sort of tool he's used to writing with) he quickly jots a few quick, neat lines of text on the paper, then passes it back. ]

They're called mooshee. [ Sadly, since he's only ever heard the word, he only has the phonetic spelling to go off of. ] Carnival's been infested. Someone took all the stuff that keeps them away.

[Taking the notepad back and glancing at it, Rita nods. This sure gets the message across faster.]

Then there was supposed to be something here to keep those creepy things away...

So what do we do about it? [Finding the "stuff" that was stolen ought to do the trick, but locating it could be a pain in the ass. Besides, it seems like there should be a simpler solution.] Destroy them? [She suggests it casually as she passes the notepad back.]

[ Taking the notebook back, Lambert begins to write again, with more confidence this time: ]

That might not be physically possible. From what he told me before, they're made completely out of the essence of life. Don't know what that means, really, but setting them on fire doesn't seem to work.

For now, I scatter them away from the more populated areas of the Carnival when I see them. But that's just a temporary solution. What we really need is to find that damn tobacco. I found a trail, but it ended at the lakeshore.

Life... [She mulls that over for a few seconds.] I wonder if any of my spells might work on them. [Fire might not be a viable option, but that leaves plenty of other elements to try...]

Anything else you can tell me about the thief, or what they stole? I'll keep an eye out. If it means getting rid of those disgusting things, I don't mind lending a hand.

[ Lambert raises his brows, turns to a clean sheet of paper, and writes: ]

You're a sorceress? [ He wouldn't have pegged her as one, but he's already come to understand that magic users here tend to look much different from his world. ]

Not much on the thief. If you know any magic that can locate objects, that would be useful. It's a mix of herbs, tobacco, things in vials. A lot to hide, which is why I was thinking magic could have been used. Could use the radio to see if anyone else has found something. Apparently, we've got someone who's a master at dealing with these.

I'm a mage. Sorceress is another word for it, I guess, but... [She frowns at the note.] Not that kind. If you needed someone to interpret magic writings, operate magic technology, or blast your thief sky-high with a spell... that's more my thing. [Rita's never even heard of magic that can locate objects... Maybe she'll have to ask more about it later, when they can have a real conversation.]

What do you mean by a 'master'?

[ Any other day, a magic-user who can blow things up that's at least nominally on his side is something he'd be grateful for. Right now, though, it definitely isn't the skillset they need at the moment. Much to Lambert's discontent, because problems that can't be solved by blowing things sky-high are definitely not problems he enjoys having to deal with, even so.

At the question, though, he shrugs, flipping to a clean page and writing back: ]

That's what he called himself. His whole job is getting rid of these things when they start bothering people, and the repellent is something that lets him do that. If you run anything you can't deal with, he'll be able to tell you what you need to do.
anti_nonsense: (how predictable.)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2017-05-03 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So this was supposed to be his responsibility. [Rita frowns at the note. If that repellent's so important, maybe he shouldn't have been so careless as to lose it in the first place.] Well, he'd better not be slacking off now. What's his name, anyway?
whattaprick: (lone wolf)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-05-04 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Gingkoh. [ The single word's accompanied by a shrug, a touch of a finger to his ear. He's only heard the name, never actually had to read it, so he's probably dead wrong about how it's spelled but... ]

White hair, deer feet, scaly tail. [ In other words, hard to miss. ]
anti_nonsense: (Deal with it. B|)

Guess I'll keep an eye out. [At least the people in this freakshow seem to have plenty of distinguishing features...]

You can hang on to those in the meantime. [Rita nods at the pen and notepad.] Just get them back to me when this crap's over and done with. [She should be easy enough to find. If Lambert happens to take a good look at either item, he can find her name there. She's written her full name on both the side of the pen and on a corner of the notepad's cover.]
whattaprick: (sincerity)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-05-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lambert does take a minute to actually look at the pen and notepad, now that she's offered it to him to keep, and shrugs. It's easier than using the ripped-off pages of Strange's notebook, at least, which is heavy and full of crap he doesn't really need, so she'll get a nod of thanks, and a short written message back, since he's getting a little tired of writing: ]

I'm Lambert. [ He turns the pen in his hand, tapping the name on the barrel, and points at her with a raised brow before writing again. ] If you get infected with one of these things, ask him how to get rid of it.
anti_nonsense: (I can still hear you though.)

[personal profile] anti_nonsense 2017-05-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Infected... [There's a visible wince at that mental image. Rita might not know the full implications of being infected with something like that, but it sounds gross and unpleasant all the same. Of course, she has no idea that it's already happened to her.] Yeah. I'll do that.

I'll be on my way, then. [She turns to leave, then glances back at him.] Next time we meet, I'd like to ask you about that technique you used to blast those creatures. [It certainly looked like magic... and he's familiar with 'sorceresses' of some kind. Seems like he might know a few things of interest to her.]
whattaprick: (snerk)

[personal profile] whattaprick 2017-05-08 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ If Lambert weren't so distracted himself, he might actually have picked up on the fact that she's 'caught' a Mushi, too ... but as it is, the mention of his 'technique' makes him smirk and nod, waving her off lazily.

Catch you on the other side, Rita! ]
