MUSHI DISASTER

Who: Anyone and everyone; it’s a mingle-style log!
What: A sudden spike in the mushi population brings some trouble to the carnival.
When: Around day 87-90
Where: All around the carnival
Warnings: Illness, potentially some minor body horror, and so on

[Following the recent disappearance of Ginko and Tanyuu’s mushi repellent, there will be a sudden increase in the number of mushi in the carnival this week.

This is a mingle-style log, so just post a toplevel, tag out, and have fun with mushi disasters! Event information and questions are here.]

"What makes them so special, do you know? I'm guessing you have more humanlike animals too where you're from - you know, they bleed and breed and everyone can see them, and if they have abilities it's because they have strong legs, or flame sacs, or high midichlorian counts." Star Wars animals can get very Extra.

The one mushi that had flowed up onto Scout's boot has settled for now in the shadow under another table, skulling around probing for nothing she can figure out. She keeps an eye on it in case it decides to move. "Do you know why they're so attracted to you?"

Scout nods, pensive.

"Life force, huh?" Her fingers tap on the table and her lips purse. "We have organisms like that, but they're very tiny. The midichlorians I mention live in animal and plant cells. Some can host a lot more than others. No one knows why, but the results can be pretty dramatic."

"Oh, well, there's several animal species that are all like that, their midichlorians let them call on the, the universal life energy." Last time she was here Scout had come up with a decent translation for the Force, but it's been a while, and she's more reluctant to talk about it these days. "Jakobeasts can make pressure waves and flatten their predators. Jubba birds manipulate emotions. Muttamok seem to read minds, but it's hard to say if they're not just really good at interpreting body language. Crowns of silk find prey. Tuk'ata do a lot of that, and live a lot longer than they should."

"You got it. People have been trying to study them for centuries, but it's hard to get anywhere with them. We just know they're related somehow." As something related to the Jedi, she knows, any research on midichlorians has been heavily suppressed under the Empire. Scout doesn't bother keeping the weariness from her face.

"Some people have more, too, and can... make a use of that connection. In Duinuogwuin it's one in every three, but they're unusual. It's very rare otherwise." She smiles faintly and deliberately echoes what Ginko said earlier. "It's kind of a mysterious condition, but it's not just that they host more - if you inject blood from someone with a high count into someone with a normal count, their counts will be elevated for a while, but it'll just make them sick and have unusual dreams."
