OPEN: New Beginnings In Stranger Places

What: Arrival, getting her bearings, etc. etc.

Adventure was something Helen Magnus never shied from and exploring the vastness of the underground Sanctuary, far beyond those walls was something she couldn't deny herself.  So it was that she found herself here, under contract to the Ringmaster with her eyes wide with wonder at it all.  The lights and colours, the excitement, the darker elements shining through here and there.  It was as familiar as it was alien and she drank it in with an eagerness she had long felt lacking.  It stirred her as she moved through tents, passed people much like her who had joined perhaps years before her.  A bright flash of a tail there, wings, glowing skin, all of these people becoming Abnormals or were in the beginning.  The sheer fascination would have been enough, really.

 

"Excuse me?" she asked, reaching out to catch the attention of one of the people she had fallen into step with, "I seem to have found myself a bit lost.  I was looking for the medical tent and I seem to have completely gotten myself turned around.  If you could point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful."

"Quite new, yes," Helen says, nodding. Oh, he has a tail. It wasn't the sort of tail he honestly looked like he ought to have. Really, he looked more of the sort who would acquire a German Shepard tail but who was she to argue with a cute, fluffy tail?

"And thank you, I could use the company, honestly. This seems to be quite the wonderful setup, I can see, from the circle I've apparently been travelling in."

"It's something else, honestly. I've never seen anything like it in my life." Jimmy's more than happy to talk as he walks, especially if it means lessening the newbie shock which happens sometimes.

"Medical tent, huh? You joining the staff?" On the one hand, it's good to have more medics on staff. Especially after Celebration and Hell. On the other, Jimmy's curious to see what Helen makes of Zecora.

"You would be correct," she says, "Dr Helen Magnus, your new Changes specialist, I gather." Her smile is quite affable. "There is much of this place that reminds me of where I came from, though it was definitely not a carnival. I run a Sanctuary for all manner of beings, like myself, who we call Abnormals. The multiversal part, while not new in concept, is quite new in practise."

"We have a changes specialist? Huh. That's new. Makes sense, though, with everything we've got going on here." Himself included, given the tail that showed up after Celebration.

"Yeah. That there really are..." Jimmy trails off and slows as he tries to remember the exact quote. "More things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy." He smiles at Dr. Magnus, at least amused that high school English class Shakespeare is still rattling around up there.

"Well done," Helen says with a nod and a wry smile and slight turn of her head, "and quite so for myself. The world is made wish such a vastness to it and yet, the planet is still so small compared to the ones we see out there in the cosmos. I suppose here, at the carnival, we'll see our share of dreams, though."

"Absolutely yes. And we may get a closer look at some than we'd like. Spent a whole stop as a mermaid, one time." Atlantis had been fascinating, once he'd mostly stopped twitching at seeing his tentacles out of the corner of his eye.

"You probably would've liked our stop before this one too. Tropical island, all kinds of bizarre wildlife... and I use that term very loosely. At one point, Sweet Pea and I were picking fights with piles of sand." He shakes his head as they walk, wondering what's around the next corner. "It's just weird here, and it's only gonna get weirder."

"Good lord," Helen murmured at the mermaid bit. "That sounds quite incredible all on its own. Back in my own universe, mermaids are such an intelligent, peaceful people. Lovely, really. The Carnival does sound fascinating. It's one of the reasons I signed up."

"Jimmy smiles a little wider, glad to see someone else that signed on, rather than getting roped in with trying to cheat. Although it did put him at odds with some of the others occasionally. "What'd you want? A chance to see what far magic did when humans were exposed to it for long periods?" Even Jimmy finds it interesting, and he's nothing close to a proper scientist.

"Actually, I wanted to see magic in action and secondly the multi-universal aspect seemed entirely too fascinating to pass up. It also seemed like an interesting vacation from the world I'm living in," Helen said and shrugged. It was hopefully going to be a vacation.

It probably would be, as long as they didn't detour back to Hell for a second show. Still gets a little bit of side-eye out of Jimmy, though. Just where had Helen come from?

"It's something to see, that's for sure. Definite 'beautiful and terrible' trends." The stops have all been memorable, Jimmy will give them that, but he'd have to waffle on calling all of them actual vacation quality.
