Put a smile on...

Who: Pearl and whoever is around...
What: Another gem finds her way to the carnival...she is not impressed.

After running in to Steven in the mirror maze and figuring out that she had in fact done something to incur the need for a contract, Pearl had taken it fairly well. She didn't like it, but what was she going to do? Even if she hadn't, she couldn't exactly leave Steven here and now she needed to get an idea about exactly where here was.

Pearl had decided to start with the essential places: her new trailer, where she would perform, and where to find others. After looking at a map of the grounds she'd decided that the best place to start (aside from the trailers) was the Cookhouse. She wasn't a fan of food herself, but she could use the familiar layout of a kitchen to find some comfort in this place. Besides, if most lifeforms here required food it would be a good place to get some insight. A year wasn't TERRIBLY long for a gem, but it was enough time that she'd need to know a little more about this place, especially if she was going to be able to help Steven at all. He had three months on her and she needed to learn all that she could to "catch up" as it were.

If you meet her around the Backyard she is mostly looking at trailer numbers and trying to locate her own. This is similar to how she just wanders the carnival grounds just to see what she's gotten herself into and to familiarize herself with the layout.

Otherwise, she will make her way towards The Cookhouse and do a little people watching. She may get ahead of herself and clean up any tables that are left dirty or reorganize certain areas if there are more pepper shakers on one table and no napkins on another. She's an organized gem and sees it as her duty to make sure these things are sorted out if she's going to be staying here. You might notice she doesn't actually eat anything herself.

After that, her tour will take her to the Big Top, as even though shows have not begun yet this is where she has been assigned to work: as a performer. She wants to get a feel for what kind of act she can put on or what is already being done. You may see her try a few moves of dance or attacks with a spear to get a feel for the space. Just be careful not to get into a fight with her hologram Pearl, who may or may not be summoned to spar with her.

Pearl hadn't been paying attention to the patrons so much. Oh, sure, she was paying attention to the fact that they were there and what they looked like. She was going to be here for a year and that sort of information would be important. However, she mostly kept to herself unless someone else spoke up. Mostly she's on autopilot and not necessarily paying close attention to if what she is doing might actually be bothering people.

So when the blonde woman seated at the table speaks, she pauses and pulls her hand back. "Oh. I'm sorry. I guess I'm just so used to taking care of the various chores back home...sort of a habit I guess," Pearl offers her a slight, if apologetic smile. Sure she was assigned the role of performer, but Pearl still wants to find her own way here as well.

[handwringing]

Elsa wasn't trying to make her feel bad. The apology throws her off a little - maybe it would have been better to just let her clean up?

"Don't apologize. I just didn't want you to feel like you have to clean everything up after me." She waves a hand as though to hopefully wave the other woman's concerns away.

But now she's curious. Closing her book, she looks up at the new woman, smiling.

"I'm Elsa. Are you new here?"

Pearl opens her mouth, about to apologize again, but catches herself. Right, she isn't taking care of Steven. It must seem a little odd for her to just be cleaning up after people when this isn't even her assigned job. She's glad for the shift in topic, as it gives her something to say now that she's going to try and NOT apologize.

"Pearl. And yes, I just arrived a few hours ago. I've had...most of it explained I think," she said, thinking of the summation Steven had given her.

[handwringing]

"It's a lot to take in. Don't be afraid to ask, if you need something. Most people are willing to help."

Almost everyone is more or less friendly here, and the ones who aren't are just sort of surly. There's only one real troublemaker that Elsa knows of... but there's no sense in dwelling on it now.

"What job did the Ringmaster give you?"

The gem nods, knowing that she already has an established network of both humans and gems she can ask. Of course, she knows most people probably don't arrive with that sort of connection, so the reassurance is nice.

"Performer. I was going to head to the Big Top soon to check in and see what might be a viable act," she says. She looks around at the Cookhouse and smiles sheepishly, "I suppose I was a little side tracked."

[handwringing]

"A performer! You'll be under Joker, then." She waves off the point that Pearl got distracted. It's alright. "He'll get you set up with something, I'm sure."

She doesn't involve herself too much in the performance side of things. Really, the Carnival is more of a home to her than a place of entertainment, but guests will come in, and they should have shoes to see.

"The Ringmaster mentioned that name...but I still have no idea who that is," she admits. She hadn't exactly be taken to him and no one named Joker had come to find her yet. She assumes he has other performers to worry about and, in time, she'll likely meet him. She hasn't been too concerned about it honestly.

"I was going to head to the Big Top next anyway, so perhaps I will run into him there."

[handwringing]

"That's usually where he is. Though he tries to stay in during the day now..."

Oh, well, that's really none of her business to be talking about. She clears her throat.

"What do you do that got you chosen as a performer, though? Are you an acrobat?"

That...was odd. Pearl didn't know what to make of that necessarily. Humans could be so odd and the humans here seemed even stranger than before. Of course, she was starting to understand that not everyone here was technically a human...perhaps that had something to do with it.

"I can do acrobatics...and dance is also a skill, though perhaps my skill with various weapons has something to do with it as well." Pearl was a very versatile being, honestly she could think of a number of her skills that would work as a performance.
