[Zangetsu may not have his normal powers, but he still has a sense for souls and the like. Angels were... apparently some kind of soul being as well, so whatever! It's not that different.
So he can feel something sort of tugging on his essence. Faint, sort of like a small animal yanking on your clothes... except whatever it is, it's pulling on the core of his being]
