HUNTING THE HUNTER↴![]() Upon first arriving in the Wyldlands, the carnival will find themselves in a scene much like the picture above - strange mountain ranges rise up around them, while thick forest cling to the land between. Every so often, giant silhouettes of Wyld Fae will fly overhead. Thankfully, the Summer Fae have picked an area with plenty of cover to hide in to begin their infiltration, and as the carnival is arriving via teleporation, there will be squadrons of Summerland and Summer Court Fae spreading out and concealing themselves within the trees. They will be following the carnival's trail as they move deeper into the Wyldlands, looking for their guidance to avoid the maw of the Hunt. The carnival Supervisors will be given several golden scrolls that unfurl into small light elementals. These will transmit information between the Summer armies and the carnival at speeds similar to sending a text message. They takes various forms, but most of them are abstract motes of light with wings and tails. When delivering messages, they take the form and voice of whoever gave the message, like a custom hologram that disappears immediately after finishing. After the carnival has been debriefed one more time, they will be sent off ahead to begin their scouting duties. Through a mixture of augury and expertise, the Summer Fae have narrowed down an area the Huntsman should be, as well as designated a general route that will mostly have ground cover. Who knows if it will stay that way, though, with how quickly the Wyldlands change. Much like in the Summer Court, time here is subjective - all sense of time varies between individuals, and the only solid way of knowing when a day is over is to have the light from the sky disappear. All time pieces will perform erratically while here. The carnival will still need to eat and rest, as well, which means that they will have to figure out the best times to set up camp. They have sufficient rations, at least. ► DAY 134: The carnival heads deeper into the forest on the first day of their scouting mission, told to head for a giant tree that they can see on the horizon. Apparently, this tree is a landmark that will remain consistent for the time being. Someone will have to check above the canopy every so often to keep everyone on target, which risks gaining the attention of flying Wyld Fae. There are plenty of Wylderkin around (lesser Wyld Fae that behave more like standard fantasy animals) but overall the journey through this section will not be hugely perilous, as long as they remain cautious and hidden. There will be a Megathread on this day, dealing with some optional and only mildly important Summer Court NPC interactions. ► DAY 135: Early during the next day of travelling, the forest will begin to fill with more and more magical fungi until giant shrooms have almost completely replaced the trees. At first they will seem innocuous, but as their presence becomes more inescapable, it will gradually become apparent than many of the mushrooms are poisonous to the touch - and eating them will be far worse! Those with empathetic connections to plants may be able to determine which are poisonous and which aren't, while some fungi may even have beneficial effects, if they get lucky enough to find and identify them. Generally speaking, though, there are few non-plant creatures around here, due to the fact that everything is toxic, including the swampy water that covers large sections of the ground. There will be no mod directed interactions during this period, besides handling general investigations. ► DAY 136: During the middle of this day, the carnival will finally reach the giant tree. On one hand, the plant-life has become relatively safe again. On the other, the giant tree is the lair of several neutral Wyld Fae who probably won't like the carnival's presence. On the other other hand, maybe those Wyld Fae might be willing to help or offer them directions? It's up to the group to decide if they want to attempt diplomacy, or to stealth past the tree and find their own way. There will be a Megathread on this day, based on however the team decides to handle it. ► DAY 137: Past the area surrounding the big tree, the lush foliage of the forest will begin degrading until nothing is left but dark naked trunks filled with glowing pods of various sizes. It's here that those with a connection to the Hunt will start to get a sense of the Huntsman's presence, and will be drawn in a vague direction. Unfortunately, this will also be their first major brush with the Hunt itself. Hunt patrols skirmish with neutral Wyld Fae in this forest, and the collateral damage of their warfare can be seen all over. The carnival will want to either map out a path through the trees that the fighting can be avoided for the sake of the Summer troops, or give them enough data to be able to handle the threat. How this portion goes will partly depend on the outcome of the previous day's Megathread. ► DAY 138: The forest will open up into the beginnings of a mountain range, with flowing water, luminescent plant life, and the occasional cluster of crystals sprouting from the earth. There are large parties of Hunt controlled Wyld Fae patrolling this area, and so making it through will require careful navigation. As the path becomes more and more mountainous, it will be possible to find routes that mostly avoid the patrols - this information will need to be communicated back to the Summer troops. There will be a Megathread here dealing with a Hunt patrol encounter. ► DAY 139: The mountains will continue to steepen, and the crystal formations will grow more huge and consistent. The air is always cloudy, and the air condition is bad, making it harder to breathe. Weather will become more and more unfavorable the higher into the mountains the carnival gets, with cold winds and lightning that frequently strikes the crystals and causes them to send out bursts of destructive energy. Paths will occasionally crumble. There is still a heavy Hunt presence, here, though they keep to safer trails - the best way to avoid them may indeed be taking the most dangerous routes. It's probably better than being mauled to death by beasts, though. Some distant mountain tops look like the might be volcanoes. There is almost no plant-life here, besides the most stubborn of brambles. By this point, the pull of the Huntsman has grown much stronger. ► DAY 140: The sky clears enough to show a deep red skyline. Barren cliffs are punctuated with rivers of lava, and paradoxically vibrant trees and foliage in erratic spurts. The those in the carnival with a connection to the Hunt will find themselves drawn to a valley in the center of the rocks, absolutely filled with Wyld Fae and other slaves gathered from around the multiverse. This will be the final encounter, and the carnival may have to trust in their Wyld Fae disguises to make it through. There will be multiple Megathreads here, detailing the encounter with the Huntsman and bringing this log to an end. |

Sure, Ignatius may not have grown a head, but he sure did grow a tail! Anyway, he's going to wave a hand vaguely in front of him.
"I say just treat him however you normally would. Whatever that is."
no subject
"Yo, no one was sayin' you did anything wrong. Ya did great, ya saved his life. No matter what happened after, he's alive cause'a your quick thinkin', so don't beat yerself up too much."
Patpat.

Also, soon as Zan withdraws his hand and she's in the clear, she also glances over at strange to make sure he's not laughing at her. He didn't actually start this trend, but she's choosing to blame him.
no subject
"Uh... that's not really..." she starts, but it turns out that she doesn't get a chance to continue, because Ignatius is already showing up. At first he just looks concerned, but as he comes into view and sees what's actually going on... well, that looking like he wants to melt into the floor expression comes back post haste. He stops where he's standing, and a moment passes. The unnamed fae raises her eyebrows, hesitating, but it's short-lived.
"Oi!" she shouts at him. "Don't give me that! Get over here!"
Ignatius looks up, surprised, his fists clenching at his sides. He arrives at the party of changelings, and executes a rigid bow.
"Iron Forged..." he acknowledges. It seems like there's more he wants to add to it, but he gets caught up on his words. "I... apologize..."
"Forget that!" she says, and then comes right up and grabs him be the face, cupping his jaw between his paws. "Let me have a look at you." Ignatius reacts with a resilient amount of poise but he's still incredibly embarrassed. "Hell - you've got a little bit of everything in you now, don't you?"
She lets go of his face, and immediately moves to lock him into a massive bear hug. She's at least a foot taller than him.
"Took you long enough, getting back here," she says, with just a bit of strain in her voice.

Awwww..! Family~!
(...She mustn't interrupt though!)

He moves to quickly wipe his eyes, holding his breath tight, and then he smiles.

Especially if she, like, might start twirling Ignatius around or something.

"And one of these, too?" she says, teasing. "You're gunna make me jealous-" She chokes as he elbows her in the gut, jerking her away from it.
"Stop," he says, but doesn't sound all that upset. She shoves him away, guffawing.
"Right. I should tell the others I tracked you down before we have to head out." She looks away. Ignatius looks surprised.
"...What, all of them?" he says, looking tentatively hopeful but also apprehensive.
"Well... some of them," she says, rubbing her chin. "Three out of five isn't bad..." She sounds a little apprehensive.

Strange also doesn't have much to contribute to the reunion. But any skepticism or worriedness he had about this whole thing melts away as soon as he sees that Ignatius is okay with this whole thing. It's always nice when worries are proven wrong. He's not entirely sure what Iron Forged means by the others but hey, if they're talking about family...
"The Gilded Mark is here also," he explains. "I assume you knew that already, but if you didn't..." he trails off with a little shrug. If she didn't know that, then she does now.
no subject
So in an attempt to hide how she actually feels about it, she just turns her head away and mutters, "Hmph. Seems like there was nothing to worry about after all."
For all of Ignatius's apprehension and moping, she never would have imagined he'd have a parent like this. Or... three of them? Hell if she can understand how fae family dynamics work. She does raise an eyebrow when Gild is brought up, glancing back to the Iron Forged to see how she reacts to that.
no subject
"Mn.. Yeah. I know..." She doesn't sound spiteful about it, just kind of uncomfortable. That situation is somehow a lot harder to contend with than Ignatius's. "Guess she took even longer to come back... and I doubt she's staying."
"I've... spoken to her," Ignatius tries to explain. "She only thought she was doing what was best..."
"I bet she did. But, y'know...." But before Forged can finish, she swivels around, Rita fully catching her eye for the first time. "Wait - this is the faeblood?" She looks at Ignatius, stunned. "Your faeblood?"
"Her name is Rita," Ignatius corrects. "But... yes. Though not in the traditional sense."
no subject
"I was artificially made into a faeblood," she explains despite the hesitant look on her face. Though her magitek heart remains concealed under her light armor, she can't help but be overly conscious of it, as if expecting the other fae to perceive it anyway. She probably can, after all, in some weird fae way. "The Mother of Invention did it, by taking a part of him and implanting it in me. So it's not like we're really..."
She looks up at Ignatius, then hastily turns her head away. Using the word family here seems almost so stupid, she doesn't dare say it.
"But... I guess, of all the fae I could've been stuck with some weird connection to... It could've been worse." This is a very roundabout, Rita-like way of saying she's actually sort of okay with Ignatius now.
no subject
He is walking a dangerous line of getting his ass kicked and he's not sorry.
no subject
"Excuse me!? I don't -- look, no one asked you!!" she snaps at Yuya.
no subject
Fortunately, her hands don't scorch Rita the way they seem they might. She ignores any other drama going on, instead looking curious and mostly skeptical.
"Is that seriously what they meant when they said Fiery popped out a kid?" she asks, seemingly to the group as a whole, while generally failing to leave Rita with much personal space.
"You... I didn't pop out anything-" Ignatius immediately starts, defensive, but the fae cuts him off, raising a finger to silence him.
"Nuh uh," she says. "I'll get to you in a minute." She leans forward to look at Rita more closely. "Can I look at this? Your Heart, I mean..."
no subject
"You don't have to show them anything if you don't wish to, Ms. Mordio."
Just in case she, you know, wants all these fae to back off.
no subject
"What do you want to see it for?" she asks warily. "Who are you, anyway?"
Judging by the way she's treating Ignatius... she can guess part of the answer, at least.
no subject
She hastily coughs and re-composes herself. "...You must be...another of Ignatius' progenitors...right?"
More quietly- "...I got the term right I hope..."
no subject
He's not so sure how he feels about all this and definitely not fond of the fact that these people just keep showing up.
"Miss Mordio's reluctance is perfectly understandable. Most people are hesitant to show off something they've received through horrible torture and barbaric experimentation," Strange idly comments, just to remind all these mystery fae that hey, this interesting shit came at the expense of being literally tortured.

Zangetsu cackles and ribs Carly lightly.
"I just made that up, I ain't got a clue if that's the right word! Sure sounds fancy though, huh?"
no subject
"The Engine Heart," she replies, and then realizes that's not exactly informative afterwards. "Both my title, and what you've got there. Heh. I think she takes after my side of the 'family'."
Ignatius frowns, some of the apprehensive spell being broken by the combination of Forge's support and the fact that Engine Heart is being so annoying.
"If you want to talk about it, talk to me," he says.
The Engine Heart huffs, glancing at Ignatius with a slight edge of reluctance. She crosses her arms, now ignoring Rita completely.
"Don't think you're off the hook," she says. "Still haven't decided if this is your fault."
"You might as well start by assuming it is," Ignatius says, raising his hands.
"Did you read the briefing at all?" the Iron Forged asks, obviously directed towards Engine Heart, rolling her eyes back as she does.
no subject
Yuya reaches to gently put his hand on Rita's shoulder after she pulls away, putting his attention back on her. "I think they like you, too. But if this is a lot to take in right now..."
He knows how alone Rita was for such a long time. Trying to navigate Fae with a more personal investment in her seems overwhelming.
no subject
"I can speak for myself," she huffs, her protest mainly directed at Ignatius's utterance, though the support from Strange and Yuya is... not bad, exactly, but having so many people jumping to her defense happens to make Rita more defensive. What does she look like, a helpless damsel or something?
"If everything goes well, there'll be time to talk about my heart in detail later," she decides. "We've got a mission to focus on for now."
no subject
A new fae approaches, glancing at Rita in acknowledgement and then calmly moving to Ignatius. She embraces him without fear. It takes a moment for him to respond, evidently caught off guard, but eventually he managed to return the embrace in kind, at a loss for words. The Engine Heart frowns and crosses her arms, evidently waiting for this moment to finish. The Iron Forged leans on her hammer with a small smile.
"I expect you to return after your mission, Ignatius," the radiant fae says softly. She pulls back to look at him. "We can talk about everything then. Until that time, we will all be in the Wyldlands with you."
He nods his head, understanding. Finally, she pulls away, looking back to Rita.
"I am the Incandescent," she says. "I would like to see you again, as well."
