RESCUE MISSION: HELL↴![]() The air smolders as you travel through the star-shaped portal the Ringmaster has opened - the gateway to the hell dimension that has taken so many if you. Ahead, you can see the grand entrance to Morningstar's fortress, a single point of civilization in the center of a barren, lava drenched hellscape. Of course, you won't be entering from the front. That would be stupid. The Ringmaster's plan is simply in explanation but far more difficult in execution. Her instructions are that she will attack the fortress directly, and that the rescue team is to enter inconspicuously and rescue who they can while she engages Morningstar. She has provided you with silver weapons - daggers, swords, and some projectiles - which you may or may not choose to use. Shedding a trail of orange and green embers, the Ringmaster will sprout her dark, feathery wings and take to the air, leaving the rescuers to contemplate their instructions now that they've arrived. The fortress is large, and as such there are many potential side entrances to find. It will take some doing, but the group will be able to accomplish it. Meanwhile, many of the vampires within will be distracted by the Ringmaster's now very audible arrival, and don't seem to be expecting a secondary attack. The initiative is yours, and the captives are there to be found... but will you succeed? ► GATEKEEPING: For those who don't trust their mettle enough to travel all the way to hell, there is an important job to be done back at the carnival. The Ringmaster's obsidian daggers have opened a portal there, but while the rescuers enter that portal must be protected - both to keep it from collapsing and stranding everyone there, and to prevent anything demonic from escaping onto the carnival grounds and causing havoc. If you need to take it easy but still want to help, this is a good place to be. It's also a good place for nervous hand-wringing about whether any of your friends will make it back alive. ► PLAYPEN: The cavernous pits where the neonate vampires are dumped, in order to engage in a survival of the fittest style battle royale where only the strongest and most cunning will emerge. Those that were turned during the masquerade were dropped down here a couple days ago, and so someone needs to go collect them. Try not to get eaten by the hordes of other starving neonate vampires down there while you're at it. Maybe you could even try to save some of them, if any seem worth redemption. ► CAPTIVES: While the supervisors were initially all caged together in large cell surrounded with a moat of lava, it seems that most of them have now been moved elsewhere. Where they have ended up is a puzzle you'll have to solve quickly - there are plenty of vampire sentries about to try to get in your way, and some of the prisoners may already be significantly worse for wear. If anyone has any powers that help them find people, this would be the time to use them. ► MINIBOSSES: Unfortunately, the enemies here aren't only capable of damaging the body, but the mind, too. In these particular cases, that corruption of the mind has been used pointedly to Morningstar's advantage - two of the carnival's most dangerous members have now been turned against it. If you want to get out of here alive, you'll have to go through them. If you're really lucky, you'll get them out alive, too. ► BOSS FIGHT: Before the rescuers and the rescued can escape, Lord Morningstar will arrive to corner them, with an entourage of elders. Let's hope that she gloats long enough for something to turn the tables. |

But the 'taur's paws and hooves grind to a halt on the stone as he catches something on the air. He didn't quite hear the other-but there is a smell. A scent that seems familiar, a little too familiar among the blood and rot that has been haunting it while down here.
He slows down-he starts to track, pacing toward the scent slowly, and quietly-
And if he can get near enough there will be a hand on the other's shoulder. If not, he simply stands there in shock.
Shima.
And he's not 'dead' either.]

Oh shit!
[ And then a hand on his shoulder! A hand! On his shoulder! From someone he didn't even hear! It's going to be embarrassing when he whips himself around and nearly sticks the staff up poor Gon's nose, because how the hell did he miss that sneaking up on him? He's huge! ]
Whoa, whoa, watch it, not a meal here!
no subject
Well the hand is gone, but now he's covering it to nurse it of what minor sting there is. At least he has the sense to speak up a little before making it look more like he's some dazed 'beast'. (...Though technically, he supposes he is)]
If you were a meal, then I, the man Gongenzaka, would have used my teeth! [he growls despite himself, his eyes shining with a feral glow within his furred 'mask'.] Regardless, I am not searching for a 'meal'! When did you get here, [he questions, looking around them. He sees no one else, smells no one else, and hears no one else, so...] ...And who else came with-we must act quickly!
no subject
[ That's a relief. If Gon is talking so seriously, even with the growl, Shima can relax a little. He pulls the staff back, not bothering to offer an apology for that. Maybe if he hadn't been so massively sneaky, it wouldn't have happened, okay! ]
We got here maybe fifteen minutes ago? The Ringmaster is here, so are the other nightrunners. I don't recognize everyone, so I couldn't give ya a full rundown. [ Nor should he, probably. ] You know where the rest are? I've been looking and I've mostly just been avoiding getting spotted. I'm pretty sure it won't be long before someone else catches on to me being down here, though!
no subject
[A chilling thought, to be reminded of that fact. Gongenzaka shakes his head however.] ...Fear not-even as you are now, should any attack while I, the man Gongenzaka am near, it will be upon their heads only! ...But unfortunately, I cannot say where they are...only that I, the man Gongenzaka, have attempted to track them since I began to hear the signs of 'rescue'.
Will there be other scouts in here, then?
no subject
[ He regretted taking it back when he first did because it sucked, but now that he's down here? He's feeling a little better about it, even if his stomach is still queasy. ]
I am in trouble if they decide to swarm me, though, so the back-up is appreciated. No idea where the bird girl flew off to, but she's probably around. I think the rest are holding the entrance open. [ He looks around the tunnel before waving his staff off in the direction he'd been going before. ] Well, don't let me stand in the way of all your tracking, sniff away! The sooner we round people up, the sooner we get the hell out of... uh, out of hell, actually.
no subject
There are others storming the gates, and acting as distraction-there are others searching, and fighting. With a nod, Gongenzaka points his nose down the tunnels.] Hmm! Very well-we move this way then...with any luck, we do not meet with any 'interruptions' along the path...]
no subject
Huh? The smell? [ Shima squints at that, uncertain. He hadn't exactly taken the time to smell the potion before drinking it. He's pretty sure he never would have gotten it down if he'd stopped to consider it that long! But that said, how Gon must be able to smell it— ] You can actually smell my blood? Dude, that's creepy.
[ Though Gon's right. How about they not talk about blood? He looks down the tunnels again, the way Gon's pointed. ]
Got ya. That way's as good as any other to me! Let's get along, little doggy!
[ He hops down off the rocks he'd been chilling on, back to the stony ground proper, and starts off that way. He's still going to move fast, but with four legs, Gon shouldn't have trouble keeping up. He also makes a point not to pull too far ahead, though that's assuming he manages to stay ahead of Gon at all (that very well may not be true, who knows). Overall, a good thing, because the smell of other people — unknown people — will be apparent before Shima ever runs into them. ]

L-Little?!
[Apparently the dog bit was fine. Gongenzaka stiffens however as they move down the corridors, and quite abruptly he grabs the other's shoulder with the intent to pull him back. He does not just smell others-he hears them.]
....Others are coming.
no subject
[ He's right, others are coming and a pair of neonates come lurking along, around the corner they'd been about to turn around. The taller one stops, immediately put on guard by just... Gon. That's like running into an entirely new monster in a lair of vampires right there! ]
The fuck are you— wait. [ He stops, sniffing the air, gleaming red eyes narrowing. ] What's that?
[ The shorter one picks up the same cue as the taller, baring his teeth and, perhaps bolder, approaching Gon by a few steps, demanding, ]
What do you have there? Who's that behind you?
no subject
The answers to such questions are all none of your business, [he warns, fur rising on end.] I, the man Gongenzaka, give you but one chance to leave.
no subject
[ Both bare their own teeth, preparing to pounce. It doesn't matter that Gon is bigger and probably badder, there's fresh meat lurking behind him and they want it. ]
im so sorry shima
And one of those muddily numbered things includes 'comrades'.] AND DO YOU TRULY INTEND TO TAKE IT THEN? [he roars, readying his claws.] Or shall you take your final chance to leave this spot with your own lives?
no subject
[ Shima mutters that quietly to himself from where he lurks behind Gon.
The two vampires do cringe back a step or two, unsure again. Gon's bigger than they are, they can tell that much, but the call of blood is just too much. The first one, the shorter one, snaps first and flings himself at Gon regardless of size difference. He moves with a terrifying speed, leaping up to try and claw at Gon's face. ]
I don't care! I want it! [ The smaller vampire hisses as he attacks. ] Get out of the way!
come to think we should wrap this one up given how many threads we got-
There is a loud CRUNCH in the process, and it takes until the other is on the ground before he glances back.] Shima-! The left path, quickly..!
[Well, that or you could fight of course, but if these other two are feeling lucky they're about to launch a strike themselves.]
sure thing
[ Vampires duly distracted, which is to say one very crushed and the other torn between attacking his downed — and now former — friend or trying his own luck, Shima doesn't have to be told twice. He darts out from behind Gon, heading straight for the left path. ]
then that's a wrap!
But for both of their sakes, it is for the best that Shima isn't around to see.]
