Summer Birthday for a Sunshine Child
Who: Sora and You!
When: Day 147
Where: Somewhere in the Summerlands
What: Sora's birthday party!
Warnings: None~
[An Open Message]
[Sometime early on Day 147, Sora will put out a message over the radio;]
So, um. I've been here a while. I don't really know how long, but um...
I think I might be sixteen, now. So, if you wanna come hang out, that would be cool.
[And that's all he'll say.]
[Sweet Sixteen]
Where has Sora been for the past week? He's been... around. He hasn't holed himself up in his room or anything, been out and doing his job and exploring the area. To a casual passerby, he seems completely normal.
But anyone who knows him, will know that he's been unusually quiet. He's not been as... everywhere, as he usually is. He's not avoiding anything, but he's not running towards it either. It's entirely likely that the radio message he put out will be the first most people have heard from him all week, and that's only slightly troubling.
He's currently sitting in one of the more secluded gardens of the Summerlands, set up almost like a tea garden. Sparky the Shinx is purring on his lap. But aside from Sora himself, there's... nothing. The garden is empty, no balloons or cake, or anything to indicate that there's a birthday happening today.
He's been doing a lot of thinking, lately, and it seems that's what he's doing today. In fact, he won't even look up from petting Sparky until you approach him.
"Hey," he smiles thinly. "What's up?"
[ooc: Feel free to threadjack! The party portion is an open log, even if it's not much of a party yet. An additional thread will be put up this weekend containing more of an Actual Party.]

open message!
DUDE. Ok, I need to know, for like... reasons. What your favorite flavor of cake is. It's very important!
no subject
Um, chocolate, I guess?
[You've put him on the spot. Cake flavors are not at the forefront of his mind.]
no subject
no subject
I mean, I'll eat most cake, to be honest...
[No, he doesn't get it yet.
Well, he does kinda get it. But he's not sure where you're going with this.]
no subject
At least, in this situation]
Well, I mean... what other kinds of things do you like to eat? Any fruit you like...?
no subject
Um? I dunno. I like most things, I guess. I'm not really picky.
no subject
no subject
[Seriously, dude, why are you screaming?]
to IN PERSON now
YOU SHOULD BE! Jeeeez.
[for whatever it's worth, he doesn't actually sound angry at all]
[Either way, that's the end of that particular conversation, and Rin makes no mention of it again, in person or over the radio.
But when he shows up at Sora's birthday party, it's with a white pastry box with a ribbon tied in a bow around it. Contrary to usual, neither Nosh nor Kuro nor any of the Hellbats accompany him. It's almost like he isn't demon Snow White today. He sets the box down on the table]
Ta-da! Birthday present! Happy birthday, man.
no subject
I... Thanks?
[Sora turns to face the box, Sparky jumping off his lap in the process. Hesitatingly, he pulls at the ribbon until it comes undone, and opens the box.]
no subject
[ooh, an EDIBLE present!
Inside the box is a very pretty cake! The fruit on top is varied... and some of it definitely looks foreign. The Summerlands had a bunch of fruits that Rin had never seen before! But he tasted them to make sure they didn't, like... make you glow or turn into a bug or anything]
I think it's some of my best work yet.
no subject
[Somewhere in the back of his mind, Sora had known Rin could cook and bake and all that stuff (he worked in the cafeteria, after all), but he hadn't known his roommate could do stuff like this.]
It looks amazing!
no subject
[Nosh had her fill of messed up chocolate cakes yesterday, that's for sure]
I hope you like it! You were being so dodgy about what flavors you like, I just went with all of them.
no subject
[You asked, and he replied with chocolate, before getting confused about what was being asked. That's not being dodgy. Is it?]
But, thank you. I appreciate it.
no subject
[Rin sits down and takes a canvas bag off his shoulder, pulling out two plates, some forks, and a knife. TIME TO CUT THE CAKE.
And cut to the chase.
He speaks frankly as he cuts a slice]
You haven't been yourself since we got back. D'ya wanna talk about it, or just drown your sorrows in cake? Whatever you prefer.
no subject
But he's not really interested in eating right now, honestly. He really should have known that Rin would know he wasn't feeling well; they live in the same space, after all.]
Oh, um... I dunno. I just... I dunno.
no subject
Rin cuts himself a slice as well, but continues to look at Sora with concern]
I wish there were more I could do. It kills me to see you like this.
[Sora was always so cheerful. A ray of sunlight on a cloudy day!]
no subject
[Sora picks at his cake with his fork, taking a small bite before continuing, while Sparky sniffs around the bottom of the table for scraps.]
I guess I just... Portland was... weird. Everything's been weird since that vampire thing, but... I dunno. My head feels, like... all jumbled up, I guess. If that makes sense.
no subject
[Rin takes a bite of cake as well. It turned out really good. Moist and tasty!]
I feel the same way... That other me... His memories all mixed up in mine. I feel like I can separate them out, but sometimes it's just... weird. Especially if I run into Miss Blue.
no subject
But, like, I feel like that... future vision thing... it kinda made it worse. Sometimes I wake up and I can't tell where I am. I think I'm supposed to be in a school dorm, but I'm in our trailer. I dunno if you knew, but near the end of it, I was... I wasn't doing great. And it's like the feeling just... kept going.
