THE MATRIX↴![]() "What IS the Matrix? The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it." ![]() ► INSIDE: On the inside, it all seems so normal. Beyond what you know of the reality you've stepped in, every bit of this place feels just as real as it did back in the carnival. If you were to forget where you'd just come from, would you know any different? The simulation of Chicago is identical to how it would have been in the early days of the new millenia, to anyone who comes from a similar Earth. Humans bustle around you, oblivious to the world outside of the Matrix that they were born into. One bright side to it all is that this hyper realism means the coffee tastes just as good as it does in real life. Anything you could do in real Chicago you can do here - and perhaps even more. ► WHITE ROOM: But before that, you were here. The White Room is a loading program, intended to port objects and people into the Matrix. You arrive as a reconstruction of your true physical form, but common sense suggests that for some of you, entering the mundane world looking like yourself isn't the best idea. It's in this empty world that you will be able to load in whatever physical objects you are, and change the way you present your own body to the system. Changes can be little, or big, but whatever you do, the body has to be able to function according to Earth's physical laws. Don't forget, if you die here, you die in the carnival too. ► DEJA VU: It doesn't matter what you're doing, but at some point you'll notice it - something around you has repeated itself, like a line on a skipping record. Maybe it's the same person bumping into you twice in a row, or the same cab driver yelling at you to get out of the way. It's like reality has rewound and repeated itself, and after the fact you have no proof of it happening beyond the memory of what you saw. You don't know what it means, but something about it is chilling. It may be a good time to find a buddy. ► THE ONE: It won't necessarily come naturally, but in a moment of need you may find yourself bending the world of the Matrix through sheer belief and force of need. How you bend it will always stay without the rules of the universe, at least for now, but when it comes to enhancing your own physical characteristics, just about anything is possible. It will not be easily reproducible, not now, but it could be your first view into the window of what's possible. |
GONGENZAKA | OTA
[In the White Room, he stumbles, feeling over his jaw and cracking it. His geta clack along the ground, and while not as large as before, he is an imposing sight despite the almost lost expression on his face. He had just gotten used to four legs.
He did not think about how difficult it would be to master two again.
All the same. He stands in his original regalia, complete with 'iron' geta that clank with each step. It is as comfortable as the day he put it all on in the first place.
But... ...That's not really going to 'blend in' in Chicago, is it?]
[WHO NEEDS REBELLIONS THERE'S TRAINING TO BE DONE]
[This is a world of potential and possibility, and for all that he remains firm and unchanging, his meditation carries another meaning here.
He can feel this world around him-just as he became aware of his breath, of the birds in the trees while at peace, his mind is open to the world here. It is loud and filled with 'static', the sound of racing cars and chattering innocents and despite the fact that he seems to no longer have the heightened senses granted by enormous ears, it feels like blaring sirens.
Everything is here-and yet he finds himself unable to push it back. It is not a strength of body that he necessarily seeks after all-and this is different from what he experienced upon gaining those canid senses.
...And it occurs to him, that maybe. Just maybe, if he can master the focus here...
He can learn to better focus his eyes, his ears, and his thoughts, on any one thing in reality.
That is why, for much of the trip while wearing a better 'blending' outfit, Gongenzaka takes to sitting. In bustling cafes, on benches, at bus stops...he sits. And he listens, and he focuses on identifying a 'one' rather than the 'many', returning as often as able between his shifts.]
[DEJA-VU]
Between the change in clothing (though he IS wearing the same set of sashes no matter what), and the whole four-legged tusk face matter seems like something that should protect him from the slim, slim chance that they get a visitor to the carnival who he's encountered while in the Matrix itself.
One would hope, at least. But instead-] ...Hey...have I...seen you before..?
AUH-
[His tails bristle.] Most certainly not..! I, the man Gongenzaka, assure you...
[The patron squints. Well they sure did HEAR that...]
A-AAAAUUH...
TRAINING
As she turns to Gongenzaka, Yukine offers a bottle of soda. What taste? Yukine learned that it was whatever you wanted it to be.
"So far I have only been able to do little things, such as changing tastes."
no subject
He turns as she asks the question, blinking a few times as he realizes what she means by taste. Changing things..?]
You mean to say, you have been altering the reality we're within? [And here he's just been focusing on parsing distant portions, catching words of conversations that no normal person should be able to hear and discern.]
no subject
To prove it, she lifted her second soda, "one trick in cooking is that it also depends on the perception of the person eating the dish, so it is especially important to make it as colorful and as neat-looking as possible for your friend's mouth to water the moment he sees it."
Then, she shook it, and decided to play a trick question. "what is this one?"
no subject
Erm. Sort of. He gives a small laugh at her logic in the matter-] Such things are certainly key in cooking, I will admit that!
[But as it is. He feels he has a good answer for that question-] What do you wish for it to be?
no subject
... the thought of it makes Yukine homesick. She looks with a sad smile at what she knows is only a simulation, of a city still so far from home.
"It's how the world works for a person even if you're back home in reality." Yukine turned to him as she tries vanishing the emotion, "the world exists as it is even if we are not aware of it, but for us, it changes how we perceive it for our own happiness."
no subject
...Those are wise words, [he notes, looking about.] How the world exists and appears, every inch of it comes down to our perceptions of it...and what we do with those thoughts.
no subject
Yukine then beams at Gongezaka, as she holds his arm, "it IS a little selfish of me to make a soda from home. There's many things I wanted to do while in the United States, but knowing I can make anything taste the way I want it to... Where do you think we could go in here? There's the Park, but also the Navy Pier, and the Art Institute..." Her eyes literally glowed in anticipation.
no subject
[As unexpected as it is, he's a bit too polite to take his arm back.... ...so he'll just cough and focus on answering that question then.] Hmmmn...in this area of America, I, the man Gongenzaka, have heard music and art in particular is something to see...
With that in mind, perhaps the latter would be best to visit, while we have the chance.
Clink
[Joker holds up his one hand, fingers spread placatingly. He's still mostly in his usual appearance, having not bothered to change anything just yet.]
Gongenzaka, right. But can I say somethin', if ya don't mind it?
no subject
[He corrected himself?
Must be serious. Gongenzaka turns to give a polite nod, ready to do nothing but listen.] Auh- of course, what is it?
no subject
[He’s still keeping his voice light and casual, trying not to grin too much. He thinks it’s great but then, his sense of fashion can be a bit eccentric. Hey, he’s in the carnival- that’s his excuse.]
no subject

no subject
[Will he get the meaning? It's time to find out, in three...two...one...]
D-Do the Americans not have uniforms?!
[Missed it, missed it entirely.]
no subject
I mean, ya just can’t say, can ya? Americans, they’re weird, they are. So it might be best ta dress in somethin’ else, just until ya know, don’t ya think?
read 'thought' as 'shit idk what pants will work' good job gongenzaka
....I, the man Gongenzaka, will not be removing these geta...but as for other clothing, this will take some thought.
[Well as long as you cover those with. Boot covers or something, bonehead.]

CLINK CLINK
No, the real thing of interest is that outfit.]
That white shirt, its gold trim, the red billowing out behind you like the most heroic of capes...
Oh my god! Are... are you dressing like me??
[The skeleton only just entered the white room, and hasn't begun to hide himself.]
bless this skeleton...
He is the Best at looking human, considering he used to be one though.Working under Sans-and with Sans, for that matter-has fortunately prepared Gongenzaka for the sight of skeletons. ...It has not prepared him for skeleton cheer however, and so he must sputter.] Th-
This is merely the uniform for the school at which I, the man Gongenzaka, attend!
no subject
Having been human almost seems like an unfair advantage! Good thing it's not a contest. His natural, if mistaken, conclusion is borne out. With an introduction like that, announcing one's name to be sure everyone listening recognizes him and is properly in awe of him, Papyrus' intuition is confirmed: this is a very cool guy, one almost as cool as himself. His willingness to keep wearing a uniform long outside the relevant environment just furthers it.]
Oh! That's a little disappointing, but, still very cool!
[That 'school' bit sinks in.]
Wait a minute. School uniform?
no subject
So naturally that means denying all coolness.] A-Auh, well...
[At least before more important things, such as questions, come up.] Of course! I, the man Gongenzaka, am still in my final year of middle school after all...therefore, I wear their uniform!
no subject
But! Your school... isn't here? How are kids going to school while here?? Being employed with a traveling carnival... is no excuse for not keeping up with your education...!
no subject
CAME HERE TO TRAIN!
[AND TRAINING IS JUST THE SAME AS SCHOOLING AFTER ALL!!! sort of]
no subject
WoW!!! Such diligence! Such passion! Training is another kind of schooling...!
[After all, people supposedly go home from the carnival to the very hour they left! To the teachers of the man Gongenzaka, he would not have missed a single day.]
no subject
In a sense, this is another one, is it not?] Where I was, I was not strong enough to protect the ones I cared about...therefore, until I can truly call myself capable, I am training through the Carnival, for their sakes!
[And with the 'time' deal, that makes it even better, right?]
