THE MATRIX↴![]() "What IS the Matrix? The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it." ![]() ► INSIDE: On the inside, it all seems so normal. Beyond what you know of the reality you've stepped in, every bit of this place feels just as real as it did back in the carnival. If you were to forget where you'd just come from, would you know any different? The simulation of Chicago is identical to how it would have been in the early days of the new millenia, to anyone who comes from a similar Earth. Humans bustle around you, oblivious to the world outside of the Matrix that they were born into. One bright side to it all is that this hyper realism means the coffee tastes just as good as it does in real life. Anything you could do in real Chicago you can do here - and perhaps even more. ► WHITE ROOM: But before that, you were here. The White Room is a loading program, intended to port objects and people into the Matrix. You arrive as a reconstruction of your true physical form, but common sense suggests that for some of you, entering the mundane world looking like yourself isn't the best idea. It's in this empty world that you will be able to load in whatever physical objects you are, and change the way you present your own body to the system. Changes can be little, or big, but whatever you do, the body has to be able to function according to Earth's physical laws. Don't forget, if you die here, you die in the carnival too. ► DEJA VU: It doesn't matter what you're doing, but at some point you'll notice it - something around you has repeated itself, like a line on a skipping record. Maybe it's the same person bumping into you twice in a row, or the same cab driver yelling at you to get out of the way. It's like reality has rewound and repeated itself, and after the fact you have no proof of it happening beyond the memory of what you saw. You don't know what it means, but something about it is chilling. It may be a good time to find a buddy. ► THE ONE: It won't necessarily come naturally, but in a moment of need you may find yourself bending the world of the Matrix through sheer belief and force of need. How you bend it will always stay without the rules of the universe, at least for now, but when it comes to enhancing your own physical characteristics, just about anything is possible. It will not be easily reproducible, not now, but it could be your first view into the window of what's possible. |

Oh right. The man shakes his head.] Patrol, [he answers instead.] It is my full time position, to search out those who would make trouble, and deal with them accordingly; we are often requested to do so when it comes to swarms of creatures as well, such as imps.
no subject
[And somehow Sans is in charge of it. Madness, absolutely madness. Best not to dwell on it, though, or he'll start yelling about his brother instead of talking to this cool guy.]
I didn't know that imps swarm.
no subject
UNFORGIVABLE!
[Gongenzaka coughs, so that he can explain the important bit now.] In some cases, apparently so...it depends on just where the carnival is visiting, but we briefly hosted a show for what appeared to be... ...Hell.
[Was Gon actually there? MAYBE NOT he did come in rather early. BUT HE HEARD TALES...]
no subject
Hell hell? How disconcerting! I hope it wasn't a heavenly show.
[If it had been, that probably would have riled the imps even more.]
no subject
Though I, the man Gongenzaka, have heard that the carnival has visited heaven itself as well... [he mutters, pondering what he heard. It wasn't much...and he certainly wasn't here for that! But he had the impression that the patrons there were difficult to describe, as a whole. Almost impossible to describe, perhaps.]

Or maybe someone else's god. [This is all getting a little theological and confusing. Who knew these were actual literal places that people could go? It's starting to sound like all manner of stories are true, in which case...]
I wonder if we'll ever go to space. Sans would love that.
no subject
[ah-] Just why would Sans be so fond of it, however.. ..?
no subject
[In answer, though:] He loves stuff like that.
I guess that's what happens when you like science, but live underground... You really want the stuff you can't have!
no subject
...he worries me, sometimes...
no subject
It's just... how he is. [He fidgets, crosses his arms, looks away. There's nothing like saying something to a new friend to make it all feel fresh. And when it's something saddening like this...he can't leave it hanging like that.] But! I think he's working on it. A little!
no subject
[He sighs, and shakes his head.] ....You know him quite well. ...it is good to hear that someone does, [he admits, nodding sagely.]
no subject
[Papyrus rests a hand on his hip, nodding to himself as he lets that sink in for a second.] I'm sure he'll do better, now that his big (younger) brother is here. Fret less!
no subject
I, the man Gongenzaka, never realized he had a sibling!! He must be thrilled to see you then, given how long he would have been without you!
[WELL.......................]
no subject
Well... [Where should he even start? And which parts were too private to go sharing...?] Yes! You're not wrong! I'm sure he's thrilled, now that it's sinking into his thick skull.
It's just complicated. He thought I was... dead?
no subject
...That one? Gongenzaka is rather stunned, to say the least.] ...Dead, [he repeats.] ...Within your own world, you mean..?
no subject
It's so much simpler and more cunning to avoid confirming or denying his demise.] Terrible to imagine, isn't it? No doubt that's why he didn't mention me to anyone. [Who here's disappointed or bitter? Papyrus, a little bit.
He sighs and forces himself to brighten up a little.] Fortunately, a way to the carnival opened up near me. And here I am! Very alive. With time and effort, I'll find a way to stop that whole mess.
no subject
I see... Then it seems you and I are here for similar reasons..! I, the man Gongenzaka, was unable to protect those I cared for where I came from-and you as well, seek to change something that seems otherwise unchangable then, correct?
no subject
That is... mostly true! I signed up for a year-long contract... in exchange for the Ringmaster fixing my problem! But I didn't expect to train, or prepare for anything. I just had to keep going for a year!
Sans told me about... the other things. So now I'm working hard, to figure out what else we can do! If she could fix it all... Well, he's been here three years. Surely he would have asked by now. I'll figure something else out.
no subject
[A true shame. (Also he's probably going to regret this bond if he gets too many 3AM radio calls.)] So long as you are working hard however, that is truly what matters! Surely, between yourself, Sans, and that of the Ringmaster's strength, you will all be able to overcome what lies before you!
