⇨ INTERLUDE: A Continuation

Who: The Ringmaster, all Supervisors, and any rule-breaker onlookers.
When: Twilight on D40
Where: The woods surrounding the grounds.
What: The Ringmaster found something threatening and has decided to share it with her supervisors.
Warnings: Wannabe satanism.

CATCH A FALLING STAR

The Ringmaster waits for all of the Supervisors to arrive before continuing onward. She doesn't say much about what they are doing as they wait for everyone to arrive, simply explaining that she has found something concerning that she needs to show them. Once everyone is together, she will lead the pack into the woods - with or without any snoops who may be trying to follow after, against her wishes.

The forest is far more accommodating to her than it is to anyone else who tries to navigate it. Instead of getting wound in circles by its path, and running into dead ends, it's as if the trees have moved themselves to intentionally create an easy path for her to follow. It's stretching into the twilight hours as they travel, and various phosphorescent flowers and pods have begun glowing among the leaves with the shift to night, faintly illuminating the way. The sun is low in the sky when they arrive at the spot, still present but swiftly fading as its light cuts through the trees in beams.

They reach an area that is not so much a clearing as it is a small space, tucked away between trunks and branches. In the center of that space lies a large, black mark, cut into the earth like a ritual sigil. The dirt and rock is blackened along its lines, and all plant-life within a few feet of its presence has died out completely. As the dark approaches, the black of the lines will seem to paradoxically glow, as if the void within it somehow creates a light of its own.

The Ringmaster kicks a few last leaves off of the mark - it seems that she's been clearing away mess from this spot already today, and indicates the digit with a snarl of disgust.

"I told you I was cursed!" she insists, putting her hands on her hips.

[Yes, looming. And his eyes appear to be filled with a very real, very directed rage on top of it all. Obviously he has no words-he can say nothing, if he expects them to get out of here. But he jerks his head to the side, baring his teeth briefly out of instinct.

Get. Out. Of Here.

They are talking about blowing things up Sherlock, they need to LEAVE.

[...nah.

Sherlock rolled his eyes and promptly turned back around to concentrate on the secret meeting. So what if things were going to explode?

That just made it all the more exciting.

Self preservation? Sherlock Holmes had none.]

[Alright then fine. Fine.

He is going to PICK HIM UP.

He has very large arms that are very good for this purpose, and he is definitely going to try and pick this slippery not-snake up!

[Sherlock is not that heavy, and is easily pick-upable. His eyes bug out and he starts flailing with the indignity of it all.

Then he tries to grab onto a nearby branch and anchor himself. If it came down to it Gon was probably stronger.

No! Not leaving!]

[YES, YES THEY ARE D-

He freezes. If Sherlock grabs that branch, Gongenzaka outright freezes, keeping himself from moving. Branch grabbing means sounds. Sounds mean attention, and attention? Bad. Very, very bad, and he's not going to try and wedge Sherlock off a tree if it means they get caught.

So instead, he'll go back to glaring at Sherlock with his eerie, glowing dog eyes.

LET GO. OF THE TREE.

NOW.

[Psh. Sherlock's dealt with giant glowing-eyed dogs before. The Hound was way scarier than you, Gon.

He gives Gon a contemptuous look, and shakes his head petulantly.

Sherlock Holmes, actual three-year-old.

NOPE.

Clearly he had no shred of self-preservation.]

[Gongenzaka, in turn, shall give a slow point toward the crowd. Fine. He can accept that HE isn't scary.

But do you really want to deal with EVERY SUPERVISOR HERE?

Not all of them will just turn you into a lizard, Sherlock. (In fact, only one would, probably)

RELEASE THE TREE.

[It's not as much of a mess as it could have been if Gongenzaka was fighting him more violently, but as it is, having a guy hanging off a tree in the brush is far from stealthy. Shortly after the explosives have arrived, the Ringmaster's gaze falls on them like a devil's glare.]

GONGENZAKA? IS THAT YOU?

[She shouts into the trees, and then is upon them night instantly. She grabs both of them by scruffs of their shirt, hauling them apart by force.]

And you.

[Yes, that tone of mild disdain is in your direction, Sherlock.]

What did I tell you?! ANSWER ME!
thevictoriandetective: (But what?)

[personal profile] thevictoriandetective 2017-01-12 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[WHAT--

Sherlock was forced away from the bush and quite suddenly found himself being yanked by the scruff of the neck and facing the wrath of a vengeful Ringmaster. The same woman (faerie?) who turned him into a chameleon.

If his skin wasn't already covered in scales one would see the blood drain from his face.

Lie your way out of this!

Actually, that's likely not going to work.

...

He was so dead.]

It's not his fault. He was trying to get me out of here. I'm the one who came here to take a peek.

[Sherlock Holmes, the slippery snake that he was, was actually a bit more noble than people gave him credit for.]
betheman: (oh god what)

[Gongenzaka has the exact look of a kicked puppy when he's snatched, to say the least.

That or a puppy that was caught chewing shoes. Either way, his ears fall flat, and his tail is tucked quite well between his hind legs. If anyone wondered if it were even possible to simply 'pick up' someone/thing like Gongenzaka, the answer is here.

And the answer is 'Yes'.

He's already opening his mouth-to apologize, to say-
] Forgive us, please! I, the man Gongenzaka, know that I have no excuse, yet-

[...Yet Sherlock's words come over his, and the more he hears the more he moves from fear to shock, turning.

...He...admitted it?
] ...S...Sherlock...

[The Ringmaster glares at Sherlock, and then glances between him and Gongenzaka a few times in contemplation. After a long and tense moment, she drops both of them, rather flippantly.]

Gongenzaka... stop trying to cover the asses of people who have no respect for me!

[She snarls, her eyes glowing like embers in the growing shade of night. Then, she turns to Sherlock.]

Sherlock Holmes...

[There's a lingering delay there as she glares at them, until she suddenly pulls back a hand and slaps him, very hard, across the face. Hard enough that if she'd done it with a closed fist she almost certainly would have seriously broken his jaw. As it is, it's still possibly enough to break the skin, just a little. She immediately begins yelling.]

Do you even realize that I'm being NICE to you?! Do you even realize how many different things I could have done to you by now that would be so much worse than a comical stint as a reptile? Are you capable of understanding that, with that overspecialized brain of yours?

I am one of the High Fae and you should be NOTHING to me!

[He stares back at her glowing eyes, not looking away, that is until--

SLAP!

His head rocks to the side, black curls scattering over his face. He's frozen, in shock, before gingerly working his jaw and making sure it was still intact.]

Ow.

[That would leave a mark probably. His face was on fire and slightly numb from the force of it. He wasn't expecting her to be that strong on first glance, surely...

There was a small part of him that was pleased that he was annoying someone that considered herself 'the High Fae.' But there was another part of himself, that stared on in shock, that was...well, afraid.

It was a different kind of fear...sort of primal, childish even...the sort that rose from when he'd encountered the Hound, when he dreamed of the ghost of Emilia Ricoletti...something that was from the years of childhood fears and monsters locked away in closets. This was a woman--excuse him, High Fae that could in fact, ruin his life in an extremely creative way, with but a word. And right now, she wasn't happy with him.]

The...the point's well taken.
betheman: (i think i broke my face)

[Suffice to say, Gongenzaka cringes a bit under that particular shout, left to...watch, for the most part. He can't say Sherlock doesn't deserve THAT after all, and honestly, he himself probably deserves worse.]

...I, the man Gongenzaka, will do my best to keep a better eye on him, in the future, ma'am... [One could argue he shouldn't have to feel that need, but...well.

This is Sherlock.

If they're being honest, something like this is going to happen again.
