[OPEN]
Who: Ginko and ANYONE
Where: Wherever animals are kept
When: Variable? Let’s say anytime in the week after Orientation (10/16-10/23)
What: Ginko tries to do his job, with “tries” being the operative word
Warnings: weird animals? Potentially bitey weird animals? To be added as necessary
A carnival can’t be fully experienced with just one sense. Just looking or listening isn’t enough; taking it all in requires much more than that. Of course, while smelling one’s surroundings might bring its own benefits in other parts of the carnival… well. Not so much here, unless you really like the smell of wet fur, animal waste, and lots of hay.
The menagerie is unlike any zoo that could be found in most worlds, if only for the sheer variety of animals kept there. The Ringmaster likes to pick up specimens from different worlds, the more unusual the better, and the end result is… well, not necessarily chaotic. But it’s definitely highly varied, and pretty strange.
Most hours of the day, anyone who happens to wander into the area, by accident or intentionally, is likely to run across Ginko at some point. He’s always been inclined to take his work seriously, and that certainly hasn’t changed since he started working here. The fact that he’s the only veteran keeper left after the recent mass exit doesn’t really help matters, either, and the end result is that he spends even more of his time in the menagerie than could be accounted for just by regular shifts.
Depending on when one comes by, he may just be mucking out the stalls - but a lucky visitor (or one who has the schedule memorized) may come by for feeding time, or in time to watch the process of grooming or exercising those animals that need it.
Closed to Bonnie
Ginko has to admit, after several weeks of trying to keep up with all these animals on his own, he's pretty glad to be getting help again... though he'd be happier about it if it weren't from a young child who clearly doesn't want to be here.
Unfortunately, there isn't a lot he can do about that but to try and make sure this is as good an experience for her as it can be - which means making sure she's as prepared as possible for the work ahead.
It's fairly early when it comes time for Bonnie's first work day, but not ridiculously so. Ginko's already fed those animals that need to eat early, and he's waiting at the edge of the menagerie when she arrives, cigarette in hand and elbows resting on the fence. He raises his free hand when she gets close, giving a small smile. "Hey. You ready to meet these guys?"
((OOC: Closed prompts might be added later! For open stuff, feel free to take a look at this (in-progress) spreadsheet to get an idea of what all animals there are! If you want to assume something is there but aren't sure you should, just message me.))

"--Yeah, that's me. Name's Ginko." He finally turns his attention toward Steven properly. "One of the performers, huh? You supposed to have an animal for an act or something?"
no subject
no subject
Ginko nods, and, once his hands are reasonably clean of Tiny Hands Dust, starts fishing around in his pocket for his cigarettes. "Yeah, I can get meat for him. Do you want to go ahead and see where that's kept now?"
no subject
He starts moving, showing his readiness to go get the meats.
"He likes a lot of things, though. Tuna... sushi... pizza... but mostly napping."
no subject
Steven's eagerness is clear enough that Ginko doesn't waste more time there. He gets out a cigarette and starts heading for the storage area, walking slow enough to make sure Steven can keep up.
"Yeah? Though I'm pretty sure one of those is in a different category from the others."
no subject
"...Yeah, I guess when I really think about it he just likes two things, mostly... eating and sleeping. And me! But he can be kind of aloof about that last one sometimes..."
Not in a way he takes personal offense to, but you know.
no subject
He nods at a structure up ahead. "It's just over there. C'mon, I can open it up so you can get him some food."
no subject
He's just sort of babbling, excited about meeting a new person and about seeing all this new stuff. He kind of wishes that Lion was actually here to show off.

Ginko glances down as they reach the door, raising his eyebrows. "Gem creatures? Are they... made of rock or something, or is that just a name?"
no subject
no subject
"Ah, right... Hadn't realized you were a gem." He turns back to push the door open, leading Steven into the storage room. "Anyway, if you don't want Lion eating those, you shouldn't have to worry about it now. Unless there are some kind of special circumstances, it's not all that likely that any of those creatures will end up here."
You know, like if the Ringmaster decided she wanted one in her collection. Or... other special circumstances. Ahem.

He's already decided that Ginko and his dad should hang out, internally. Greg could use a few more friends in this place.
no subject
"Is he? Well, I just hope he has as easy a time handling this as you seem to be."

Not that he can't understand this guy's reluctance to get involved in things like this. But it makes losing that option all of a sudden seem even worse.

Steven trails off for a while, staring at the ground ahead of him with a frown and folding his hands. Finally, though, something occurs to him and he speaks up immediately.
"I know - you two should hang out!"
no subject
"Uh... I guess. I could always try and help him with getting used to living here."
no subject
He's just going to fantasize about this for a moment now, and totally forget about the meat thing.
no subject
"Anyway, do you know if Lion has any... y'know, preferences for what particular type of meat he gets? Could just get a larger portion to bring him, or a few smaller ones."
