RAT PARTY LOG: Day 105

It’s a rat’s birthday party, and if you’re in the labor crew attendance is mandatory. After watching his department's sense of team spirit drop to dangerous levels Psi has decided to try and force people to have a little fun. Of course, the recent lack of camaraderie among the Labor Department isn’t the sole reason for the party; as Ginko had mentioned, anyone who decides to take a look at Rex the rat king will find a seventh head apparently in the process of emerging from around his shoulder. It’s not quite fully formed yet, essentially just a nose and mouth poking through the fur, but it’s very definitely there.


I. GINKO AND REX
A table has been set up near Rex’s enclosure with a number of rat king-safe treats laid out on it, so as to reduce the risk of visitors giving him something he shouldn’t eat. All the same, Ginko will be spending most of his time near Rex, and keeping an eye on things - just in case he has to, you know, discourage people from putting their fingers too close to the new mouth, or something like that. Fingers are not considered rat king-safe treats.

II. TWISTER AND OTHER FUN GAMES
Psi is here as well obviously, and he does have twister. He won’t actually make you play, but he will call you a wuss if you refuse to join in. Twister isn’t the only game they have available though, as later on Psi will also be forcing allowing people to play “Who Am I?” In this game the name of another person at the carnival is placed on a player’s back. Players then have to guess whose name is on their back by asking questions yes or no questions about that person to other people at the party. (Feel free to pick whatever name you want for your character.) Although Labor Department members have to play, others are welcome to join too.

III. FOOD
But what would a party be without the free food? There’s lots of good stuff. BBQ Ribs, Chicken Adobo, Pork Mango Habanero and for dessert there’s cupcakes in the chocolate and lemon flavored variety. Lar’s made it all so feel free to be shocked about that.

Anime was a mistake

"What the hell is English?" Taako makes a face. He's heard Strange mention it before, and he assumes it's both a place and a language, somehow, but... man. Weird.

He does incline his head a little in response to that bow. Taako isn't the bowing type-- it implies humility, and he's not about that life-- but this dude seems alright.

"Hmmmmn....it is a language from my own world... ...It originated in a single country, but due to colonization and later commercialization, numerous countries steadily required it as part of the curriculum...
"
...In Japan, it is required rather early on, though... ...I, the man Gongenzaka, will admit that until high school, there is a strong chance that I will not fare well if 'translation' is lost."

"Well, then let's hope that shit stays in place, am I right?" He grins, all sharp teeth.

... and then he pauses.

"Wait, wait, hold on, are you... not in high school yet...?"

"Hmm! Of course!" And he grins right back, up until it falls. It is a rather innocent sort of surprise that faces Taako's question-age is not a matter that comes up very often for him...largely because everyone places their own assumption and it goes from there. So Gongenzaka merely blinks, and nods.

"Of course not! I, the man Gongenzaka, am only 14! High school should not begin for at least a year and a half, for Yuuya and I both!"

Taako glances him over, quietly, as he sips his drink; and then he just shrugs. That seems like a satisfactory enough answer for him.

"I always fuckin' forget how fast people who aren't elves grow. That shit is wild. I mean, don't you guys go through, like, so many clothes?"

[betheman]

"Hmm?" Elves..? ...Oh, that does make sense, doesn't it. He laughs to that, though he does shake his head. "Perhaps not as many as it seems, but indeed, until we reach adulthood, growing out of clothing happens rather often..! Fortunately, the schools are typically understanding of that when it comes to our uniform though..."

"Cool deal, my man."

To be honest, Taako is pretty sure this guy's bizarrely large for his age, if he is human; but there's no reason to voice that. This dude's been pretty chill so far, if not one of the more chill people he's encountered in this place, and he's grateful to have somebody he can have a decent conversation with for once, instead of somebody who's either constantly having some kind of meltdown or yelling at him for supposedly breaking some silly rule.

"I forget just how long it's been since I've grown outta something... probably fuckin', 75 years? Hmmm." He thinks on that, sipping his drink idly. "Yeah, think that's right."

Okay well that age threw him off. Gongenzaka is a man of control however-his surprise comes in the form of raised brows and perked ears, and little more. "75? How old are you then, if I may ask?"

Taako laughs sheepishly, then coughs, waving a hand.

"Oh, uh, you know... old enough to know better, too young to care, am I right?" He half-laughs again, taking another sip, and finally murmurs an answer, glancing off. "Errrhhh, somewhere around 150..."

[betheman]

150... [....To be fair the Ringmaster is definitely Way Way Older than that. The shock is...contained.] Mnn...given how you look compared to what I, the man Gongenzaka am used to, and what you said about when last you changed the size of clothing then...

[..................................He frowns.] ...I, the man Gongenzaka, am finding myself curious about how childhood progressed...

[How long did each stage of development last, it's going to bug him now....]

"Slowly," is Taako's answer, and he grins, raising his glass to Gon. "I mean... we don't really reach adulthood until we're, like, 100 or something, so it takes a little while for us to grow up, you know? I mean, we get growth spurts sometimes, you know, normal growing up stuff, but, uh..."

[otoko]

"Hmmm...so for you then, childhood would have covered potentially two or more decades..." Not too much more than that, he would hope, but goodness! "Regardless then, at the very least, you are ahead of me in maturity as well as years, for certain!"

Taako breaks into a huge, toothy grin, but there's insincerity around the edges; it almost looks sheepish.

"Eeehhhhhhnnn, mmmm, let's not get ahead of ourselves here."

"I, the man Gongenzaka, should hope that doesn't mean you intend to grow taller yourself? ...It is quite inconvenient, for many situations." Yes he is acknowledging that struggle. IMAGING DUCKING, all the time....

"No-- what?" Holy shit. Taako giggles, a high-pitched, sharp noise that catches in the back of his throat. "No, I mean... you know what? Nevermind. Yeah, let's hope I don't get any taller, huh? I mean, I'm plenty tall as it is, if you ask me."

HE SUSPECTS HE MISSED SOMETHING HERE- "Hmm!? What do you mean 'no-'" ...Taako is already moving on. "Haah??"

...Well, he supposes there is no sense questioning it... "...R...right. ...Actually, I, the man Gongenzaka, should think you taller than I myself once was when bipedal..." He was 5'10 back then, so...yep.

"Yeah, I'm kinda taller than most people, it's a thing," he says, grinning smugly. Being tall and beautiful is one of his favorite aspects of being an elf, honestly. That, and his inherently being better than everyone else, but he doesn't voice that just yet; Gon might not be able to handle such a realization just yet. "But that's fine. So, hey, how much of this is the carnival messing with you, huh? I can never tell, but I'm starting to think everybody here used to be human or, like, humanish, and I gotta be real, it's pretty worrying, if it's any indication of how I'm gonna end up."

"Is that so..?" Hmmn, something to keep in mind he supposes. Although-Gongenzaka coughs somewhat awkwardly, glancing to the side. "W-Well...for the most part, extreme changes such as this require considerable exposure to the fae-magics here... ...As such, those with so many changes to their form, have typically been here for a number of years..."

There is a 'however', somewhere in that sentence. And here it comes- "However... ...I, the man Gongenzaka, developed my most extreme change as a result of medical recovery..."

"... medical?" That's... the first time he's heard that explanation for such a change in appearance. "Hold up, so did some of this happen before you got here? Or...?"

[betheman]

"No, it is all after. ...However..." He coughs.

"...An unexpected incident occurred a few months after I, the man Gongenzaka, joined. As such, I was forced to recover in one of the tents here for quite some time... ...a recovery aided primarily with magic."

The grimace he gives is probably a clue enough as to what that resulted in.

"Huh. So I guess I should do my best to stay outta trouble around here for more than just the obvious reasons, huh?" Taako is smiling weakly, but it's certainly edged with a mix of concern and worry (for himself.) How real that concern is is anyone's guess, but he's putting on a good show of it. "But hey, at least they got Humpty Dumpty put back together, am I right?"

"More or less..." he laughs weakly, scratching his cheek. There is a bit of sputtering at Humpty Dumpty but-

"Th...That is a rather good way of putting it, I will say..."

"So... what brings you to this little shindig? You here for the rat, or just, you know... because?" Taako accepts the "compliment" and moves on almost a little too quickly, curious as to just how many people came to celebrate a literal rat's birthday.

"Ahhh..." Good question. "Well, I, the man Gongenzaka admit...I was quite curious about the event over all... ...I had not seen most of the creatures that the Carnival cares for, you see."

"Yeah, I didn't know what they were keeping in here either, and, like... can I be honest?" He sips his drink, quirking an eyebrow. "This shit is wild. Where do they even find this stuff?"

The rat with multiple heads is fine, he doesn't care about it that much, but what the hell is up with the vagina weasels, or whatever they are?

... he doesn't voice that, since this dude is apparently a kid in human years, but he sure does think it.
