RAT PARTY LOG: Day 105

When: Day 105


It’s a rat’s birthday party, and if you’re in the labor crew attendance is mandatory. After watching his department's sense of team spirit drop to dangerous levels Psi has decided to try and force people to have a little fun. Of course, the recent lack of camaraderie among the Labor Department isn’t the sole reason for the party; as Ginko had mentioned, anyone who decides to take a look at Rex the rat king will find a seventh head apparently in the process of emerging from around his shoulder. It’s not quite fully formed yet, essentially just a nose and mouth poking through the fur, but it’s very definitely there.


I. GINKO AND REX
A table has been set up near Rex’s enclosure with a number of rat king-safe treats laid out on it, so as to reduce the risk of visitors giving him something he shouldn’t eat. All the same, Ginko will be spending most of his time near Rex, and keeping an eye on things - just in case he has to, you know, discourage people from putting their fingers too close to the new mouth, or something like that. Fingers are not considered rat king-safe treats.

II. TWISTER AND OTHER FUN GAMES
Psi is here as well obviously, and he does have twister. He won’t actually make you play, but he will call you a wuss if you refuse to join in. Twister isn’t the only game they have available though, as later on Psi will also be forcing allowing people to play “Who Am I?” In this game the name of another person at the carnival is placed on a player’s back. Players then have to guess whose name is on their back by asking questions yes or no questions about that person to other people at the party. (Feel free to pick whatever name you want for your character.) Although Labor Department members have to play, others are welcome to join too.

III. FOOD
But what would a party be without the free food? There’s lots of good stuff. BBQ Ribs, Chicken Adobo, Pork Mango Habanero and for dessert there’s cupcakes in the chocolate and lemon flavored variety. Lar’s made it all so feel free to be shocked about that.

"No, it's good." He gets close to the pen so he can watch, maybe a little too close. "I had Rikkun and Manager favor me. And watched a bunch of anime with Nagicchi."

To be fair, he always watches a lot of anime with his friend Nagi, but that's beside the point.

"Mikki made me clean my room for the whole month, though... that was tiring..."

"Watch the teeth," Ginko says. But the warning is more out of obligation than anything; Rex tends to be his own worst enemy when it comes to food stealing, so he doesn't mind humans (or other species) hanging around.

"Yeah? That's the-- um. Cartoons, right?" He gestures vaguely with one hand, as if that's going to help communicate anything.

Then he gives a quiet laugh. "What, every day? How bad was it to start with?"

Tamaki nods in response to his question about anime, then moves on to the topic of his room.

"It was fine!" It was a disaster zone. "But Mikki said I had to, and Sou-chan said if I didn't clean every day, the mess would get bigger..."

It was a concentrated effort from his entire idol group to make him keep his room clean, but they managed, somehow.

"Cleaning is boring though."

"That's usually how it works, yeah." As he's found in the year and change that he's actually. You know. Had a living space to think about cleaning.

"You don't like it?" He actually sounds a little bit surprised to hear that.

"Why would I like it...?" He's a teenage boy, and he isn't particularly orderly by nature. Wanting a clean living space isn't something that's usually high on his list of priorities.

"It takes time away from other stuff. Like, I could be playing games. But instead I have to clean."

"Well... isn't it better getting your space organized?" Clearly that's something everyone can appreciate, definitely, universally.

"Guess that makes some sense... but that's all the more reason to get it over with regularly so you don't have to spend as long on it later."

Yes, Tamaki, he is giving a 'this is why you should clean more often' lecture. This is just how he is.

He really thought he got away from those when he left Sougo and the others behind, but alas. As long as there are adults, there will be lectures.

"Eh... fine. I'll try to pick up..."

He'll probably do it once and then stop after that.

Just wait, Tamaki, maybe one day you'll be the adult doing the lecturing.

He gives a small smile, sitting back in his chair. "Glad to hear it." As long as he makes some effort at some point, that's something.

Don't say such scary things...

"What do people do for birthdays where you're from?" he asks offhandedly, finally leaving the side of the pen to come sit near Ginko. At least it's shady over here.

"Ah... well. Nothing, so far as I know." He gives a small shrug. "Just isn't treated the same there as it is in a lot of places, it seems."

[puddingemote]

"Really? That's kinda lame..." Tamaki purses his lips. "It's nice to be celebrated. Or to celebrate other people. Even if it's just a birthday date, or something."

[dontpokethat]

"I guess so. But people do that other times where I'm from, anyway. I've heard New Years' celebrations can be kind of like that - celebrating everyone getting older, and all that."

Not that he's actually been to a lot of them, himself, what with being out in the wilderness most of the time.

He perks up a little at that.

"New Year's is like that where I'm from. We just celebrate everyone's birthdays too."

He's pretty surprised to hear about something so specific that their worlds have in common, actually. With all the talk of mushi, he just sort of assumed that Ginko's world is completely different from his own.

"Really? Huh... almost seems redundant." Almost. There are some differences between the New Years' festivals he remembers and what he's learned about birthday parties in his time here.

"But, I guess it must be nice to have twice as many celebrations like that, huh?"

It's not redundant, but Tamaki doesn't argue the point too hard. Instead he just nods in agreement.

"Yeah. Everyone gets to feel special at some point." And that's a really good thing.

Ginko hesitates - just for a moment, hardly longer than any of his usual thoughtful pauses. Of course, theoretically, there shouldn't be a lot to think about here.

"...Yeah. Sounds like a pretty nice setup."

Tamaki notices that hesitation, though it's not enough to concern him. Maybe it should be, but right now, Tamaki isn't thinking that anyone might have a problem with what he's describing. It's all fun, right?

"Mm. I'm excited for when I get to have mine. But, it won't be until I go home."

It's still a ways away.

Ginko is sure it is, Tamaki - and the last thing he wants is for anyone to feel bad for celebrating when they can.

"Yeah? How old are you going to be." He grins and gestures toward Rex. "Older than this guy, I'm guessing."

[puddingemote]

"I'm way older than six!" Come on Ginko, give him some credit. "I'm gonna be eighteen."

Old enough to be considered more or less an adult. Old enough to finally age out of the foster care system. It's strange to think about.

Don't worry, Tamaki, he figured it would be closer to that. "Well, in that case, happy birthday in advance."
