title goes here [Open]
Who: Blue Diamond, Open
What: Getting down locations, meeting new 'coworkers'
When: 1-2 days before Event
Where: All over the Carnival
Warnings: None currently

[The only thing keeping Blue complacent is knowing she made the choice to be here herself. The indignity of being reduced to a mere aid for others when she was a diamond for stars' sake would be intolerable even for her. But the prize is worth it.. and it's only a year.
A year is still long enough to need to know who her coworkers are and more importantly who those who outrank her are. Not all of them would be telling her what to do, but keeping things working smoothly in case she did need to go to them for something - or them to her for some requisition or other - is simple common sense. A little asking around gets Blue pointed in the right direction..
Which means visiting supervisor's grove. She has a mental list of descriptions and names of those she's supposed to be looking for, and once she spots one (and presuming they don't look otherwise occupied at some other task - Blue is mindful, and she knows what work looks like in its many forms), it's just a matter of saying hello.]
Pardon me. Do you have a few moments?

[Peoplewatching follows. There's a lot of people in the carnival, some human, some ... mixed? Some don't seem as if they were ever human to begin with but there's plenty of locations for Blue Diamond to settle down in a somewhat out of the way place and do nothing at all but watch the others go about their duties, sitting or standing depending on location.
The diamond - in this case the Ringmaster - of course set the tone of a location, but it's the lower class gems that always lived and breathed it, and if she was going to blend into this place, she needed to better understand how they behaved, what they did ... and why.
Perhaps you're the person Blue's chosen to watch right now, a silent seven and a half foot tall azure shadow keeping tabs on what you're doing, what you're wearing, everything you're saying.. it might be a little uncomfortable but for the air of benign benevolence she manages to cultivate.]

[With a better idea of what this place expects by way of appearance, it's time to familiarize herself with locations. If a new arrival can get there, Blue's going to be there sooner or later, looking around with interest and attempting to at least become familiar with various locations and what they're for.
Roping her into lending a hand with this small task or that one shouldn't take much effort at all, Blue seems interested in learning and being of what assistance she can be. Got a task? Make use of the strange blue lady hanging around.]
4
[There are times when Blue simply leaves the main carnival and heads into the woods for a little bit of quiet to allow herself some time to acclimate to new information and the general headache and effort of pretending to be this entire place's newest Pearl.
The forest prevents anyone from leaving, but Blue isn't trying to leave and perhaps something of the entangling, confusing place understands that. It's easier to find little quiet out of the way spots amongst the trees to loiter a while, even if she's not terribly comfortable with being surrounded by so much organic mass. She'll be here well into the evening, a dark blue wraith between the trunks, seemingly looking for something. She's not lost .. not yet, but that could change at any time with this place.]

...When you find a place that's really different, really special though, sometimes you want to bring a little something from that place back with you.
[As it is.] Sometimes you can reuse them! But since a lot of workers experience new changes every now and then, things have to be refitted, or adjusted...
...W..Well, there are two assistants for the department... [...It looks as if she might break into a sweat just considering this next bit.] But, but I need to be careful..! If anything goes out of place, we'd end up with people without costumes, or clothes, or both, and I can't let that happen..!!
[Be Calm, Carly...]

[That sounded interesting, whatever they were! And apparently they were very good things by context. A place full of song sounded rather nice though.
Blue only ever really brought back things that reminded her of Pink though, the idea of doing it for whim instead had never really occurred to her. This idea is digested slowly, along with the idea of a world full of music. It was a nice counterpoint to the revelation that either Carly has no competent assistance or she micromanages in the extreme.
The organization of a different supervisor's minions really wasn't part of her task. She needs to resist the impulse to make ... corrections.]
I am certain you will not allow such a thing to happen, especially with competent assistants. Have you considered speaking with the outriders to get an idea of the worlds they're investigating in order to get a bit of a head start on possible collection of designs?
no subject
Dreams are... ...well, I guess one way to see it is, they're something that help to reveal important things while you're resting...whether it's something you needed to remember, or something you needed to feel better.
[.....Or it could be a nightmare. She won't go into that though. Instead, she stares at the...comment on the outriders.] You mean...
...The nightriders? AH... Ahah-A- Actually, before the promotion, I rode with them~ S-So, that would have been my other job until a few days ago... [....]
...it's weird to think about it like that actually...
no subject
My kind don't sleep. I do fantasize a bit when at rest, but I don't believe it to be the same thing..
[What sort of gem even had TIME for things like 'sleep'? Humanity needed it and quite a lot of it or they broke down, but gems weren't as fragile.
The revelation that Carly had that job until recently draws a few moments of patient silence, waiting to see if the girl will connect it to her question. When this doesn't seem to occur (the poor thing looked like she could use some rest..), Blue holds up a hand again.]
Whether you were riding with them before now or not isn't particularly important unless you know the worlds they've picked for visiting. If you do not, then my question remains.
[Although there is the barest hint of reproof, Blue's tone is still gentle. Focus, Carly!]
no subject
[Ah. She coughs.] W-Well, that's just the thing...
...
We didn't pick them.
...The Ringmaster did.
[In other words, None of the scouts or even the Nightrider will know until perhaps a day or so away from the location.]
no subject
Of course, such decisions should never be left in the hands of an underling!
[The very idea that such decisions should be left to a scout was shocking. And terrible! Who could possibly trust the judgment of a gem not made for that sort of thing?]
no subject
[Ohhhhhhh. She's got it now.] Ohhhhhh you're asking about cross-referencing... [She can pick up on these things if you give her the chance!]
...Mmmm. That one's tricky. To be blunt, there isn't much of a pattern between where we go... ...it seems to follow her whims more than anything. We didn't even realize we'd be going to Atlantis until we all woke up from an induced sleep, under the water and half fish!!
no subject
[The imagery Blue's generated for this in her mind are completely inaccurate.]
What sort of costumes would such a bizarre form even require?
no subject
Mostly they seemed to be into jewelry, sashes....more thorough clothing wasn't really in their general wardrobes.
no subject
[But half-fish, that's still something she's struggling with. Clearly if they had jewelry and ornamentation they had hands, which meant.. limbs stuck onto a fish?]
... How did they forge such things as jewelry beneath the water?
[No, focus.]

[Blue isn't entirely sure of how things worked for organics but she understands ordinary physics perfectly fine! That one sounds extremely dubious to her. Didn't excessive heat kill organic life?]
Is excessive ornamentation usually a sign of status among organic life?
no subject
At least she can answer this one.] It's one of them! In a lot of societies built like that, being able to afford things with no actual benefit, or things that just look pretty, or make you draw more attention...they're ways of saying you're more important, and you got there!
Though, for me at least, things that are glittery are just a matter of the fact that I like glittering things, so sometimes it's just preference hehehe...
no subject
Carly couldn't help being part of an inferior species with a very dim grasp on what the laws of reality actually were but there was no point in mentioning this. It's simply set aside as a topic to not venture into with the obviously unequipped.]
If it is normal for organics to wear such things because of status, it makes sense that you or others would be drawn to things that shine for your own. By now it may well be written into your biology, glittery things are good to have.
no subject
Though-] Ehhhhh.... ...I... I hope not, that's a real budget sink...
no subject
[She glances around for a moment, and then bends down with smooth grace and plucks up a stone from the ground.
There's tiny flecks of gold, like sheets of paper, embedded in it.]
Here's some here. It shines, it glitters, but it certainly isn't expensive. Pyrite I believe.
no subject
...It's kind of pretty too~ Ah-you were able to tell what this was just from a look though?
no subject
.. Yes.
[It's said cautiously, as if she expects everyone should and is pretty confused that someone might NOT be able to.]
It's important to be able to recognize minerals and metals when found, isn't it? Of course there are far more interesting things than pyrite out there.
no subject
But when I work with accessories, the metals and stones are already cut and polished for work....
And for anyone who isn't working in any of those fields, they definitely wouldn't need to recognize those things... ...so normally people would only get that kind of skill taking specific classes for it...
