Get Ready For the Show

Who: All the performers, plus any visitors
What: Time to get back into the swing of things! Nothing says "I've recovered from trauma" like learning how to plaster a smile onto your face for the crowds.

As the saying goes, "All play and no work makes Jack forget how to do his job". On the bright side...

Over the radio, Joker makes a cheerful announcement for all performers to start getting back into the practice schedule with new arrivals to show up on the first day back from the moon. On the first day, he'll be lenient. No one has to be on time, but he does want them to at least make an appearance and token attempt at practice. After that, well... Show up, or you'll have an aggravatingly cheerful stage manager paying a personal visit. He bothers because he cares.

To those who have become familiar with it, the tent is outfitted with all off the usual practice equipment, and new faces will be in for a treat. There are the usual acrobatics equipment: silk ropes, the high wire, trapeze swings. Daredevils will find all sorts of things to threaten their lives with, although they'll soon find that there are magical safety precautions in place which stop the Big Tent from, say, getting set on fire. And the magician stuff? Well.... Don't hurt yourself there.

Out of the love of his heart, Joker will make sure there are bottles of water nearby, so don't be afraid to work up a sweat.

"She's an odd kid but means well enough," he says with some conviction that something is wrong with her. He has his suspicions that she's either abused, had no childhood of her own, or there were really strong controlling factors behind everything.

"Yes, mother," he teases gently. One can always tell how much Tyki trusts someone by how close he allows others to come to him instead of him coming to them. Also, the mere fact that the dagger connects is also proof of the matter. "You don't have to tell me twice to get any sleep." Come performance week he'll be on 4 hours of sleep with minor naps here and there.

Most kids, in Joker's opinion, are perfectly fine no matter how odd they are. It's just how other things can force them to act which is the problem. Perhaps he has a soft spot there, however.

But that's something to keep in mind for tonight.

Instead, he flops against Tyki with his armless side, trying to put all his weight on him. "Oh, you wouldn't want me ta be yer mother. I'll start buggin' ya for when I'm gonna start seein' grandchildren."

Tyki absolutely adores kids. It's why he's generally the best uncle regardless of how lazy he is. His niece is a bit of a brat but given a choice they were always side by side in missions and at dinner tables.

He adores Reira as well which is why he was sort of glad when she got kicked off Acquisitions. It was also why he was sort of mad when she didn't listen to him and snuck out of her room at night at the Manor.

Joker has no idea how use to this he is. The twins and his niece were always flopping on him. He merely leans back into him with his hand extending out in case he needs to grip, "You'll be waiting for quite a while. No woman has ever managed to tame me nor do I see a reason to settle down so early in life." Even the Earl sort of denied tons of marriage proposals sent to his estate.

Apparently, a fondness for kids is another thing that they have in common.... along with not wanting any for themselves. For now, however, he just laughs, shaking with the sound.

"Oh! So ya want yer poor old mother-" He hasn't even breached his thirties yet. "-ta die of old age, alone, not even seein' the little ones runnin' about the home with yer lovely eyes or ebony curls." His head flops down against Tyki's shoulder, although he takes care not to get him in the face with any of his antlers. They follow the curve of his skull, for the most part, but it's still something he has to keep in mind.

"Ya don't love yer mother, I see how it is."

"It's not that I don't love you, Mother. It's just I wouldn't want to steal all of your attention away with the pitter patter of small feet. Besides, you'll always have me and I already cater to your every request."

He would be considerate to use his power if one of Joker's antlers decided to spear him but he appreciates the consideration. He even raises a hand to pat him on the head with a soothing gesture, "If you really want me to settle down you're just going to have to wait until I'm ready. No common woman will suit me. She has to be just as horrible as I am to tame me."

It is frankly nothing short of a miracle that Joker keeps his face straight through all of that, and, really, that's being generous. His shoulders shake in silent mirth, along with a tell-tale screw of his mouth as he tries not to laugh. "Ah, I raised such a spoiled son," he manages, voice tight from effort. "But since ya spoil me, I should count myself lucky." With that, he pats Tyki's back and straightens himself up.

"Although I'm scared ta imagine the kind of lady ta could keep up with my beloved and spoiled son~."

"I already get up far too early in the morning for your benefit," and because he had other duties during Performance week that prompted him to do so. It's hard not to grin as his own smile widens and barely holds back his own laughter, "Spoiled perhaps but I turned out alright."

He tilts his head at that with a crane lightly of his neck just thinking about the type of woman that possibly could tame him, "Gorgeous, a beautiful smile, a temper worth fighting for, a scary personality, someone I can have a fun time with. She'd definitely have to be able to keep up with me." Yeah, so probably frightening would be a better word.

He could actually think of a couple of his own family that might fit that qualification, in his particular opinion, which only means he must never introduce Tyki to them. Joker would like to think that would never happen while they're both working through their contracts, but he also hoped that Doll or Snake would never show up. Look how that turned out.

For the time being, he just waves his knife through the air, carefree, and begins to head back to where he'd been throwing to start with. "Well, do make sure ta introduce yer beloved mother if ya ever decide it's serious for once in yer life, won't ya?"

"Mmhmm, I have a feeling if I don't I'll never gets Mother's approval~" said with all the fondness in the world. Joker would definitely be one of those he might talk about her with unless it was under the table secret. It's just... in a place like this could he ever take anyone that seriously. The contract would end and there he would go. It would have to be a woman to which he would be willing to stay here for and when all of that mess was over at home.

Even if someone from Joker's family caught his eye it would have be a heavy push to convince him otherwise of his usual lazy ways. He's still leaning back against the target without a care in the world. Right now he was having fun and couldn't deny that.

"Especially since ya would rob me out of a chance ta plan the weddin'~." Twirling the knife in his hand, he takes a look at the scene before him. Honestly, for people not looking for commitment, the Carnival is a good place to work. It's ephemeral, constantly shifting and moving... and so are its workers. There's no better reminder that relationships aren't worth it, at least here.

But more importantly... "Are ya gonna stand there blockin' my view all day, Tyki?"

Despite everything Tyki still grasped for common friendships and more. Knowing that he would kill everyone one day soured things but that never stopped him. In the carnival he was simply free of those tight restraints.

"Here I thought I was all the view you'd need, Joker. It's alright. I can leave you and the target alone in your scandalous back and forth affairs. I'm sure our little princess, Doll, would like to dance with me instead."

Just for that, that knife is getting thrown again, although not through Tyki this time. (Unless he moves into it again. The ass.)

"Be nice ta yer Auntie Doll. Yer gonna be gettin' a new uncle again, I have it on good authority." What, can't he gossip about his little sister's love life? At least, to good friends.

Even though he's kind of an ass there is a measure of trust that goes with allowing someone to throw a knife at his body and trusting it is not an attack. Still, he doesn't move this time.

"Oh, so Mister Tamaki and she are getting serious~" he teases and has known since the Moon. His fingers lift towards the knife near his body and he pulls it free from the target. He walks towards Joker with the tip balancing on one finger. His hand palms the handle with a mini flip and then he tosses it back towards the target with a near accurate stab towards the middle. "Alright then."

Joker had known a little before, watching everyone like a hawk during the 'ball' before disappearing for, you know. Reasons. And then he'd been a little too sick to gossip.

Waiting for Tyki to come back, Joker laughs a little bit. "Well, serious enough ta be makin' eyes at one another," he says, eyes flicking towards the knife as it goes flying once more. "Young love is beautiful, innit?"

Tyki had especially seen a lot at the Manor that he likely shouldn't have but he hadn't thought of Doll much at the time. It was only after her drunken ranting had he discovered Tamaki from her lips alone.

"Making eyes at, hmm~ Is that what they call it now a days? Sharing a cabin, a bed, and already kissed." His hands fold outwards at the grand display and Joker may never know if that knife throw was luck or skill. "When it works, Joker. It's a powerful thing."

"Honeymoon eyes~." Well. Ignoring the fact that they haven't married yet. Joker is interested to see if it can last that long. Tamaki and Doll seem like the sort who could do that.

"Do ya have a lot of experience with that kind of thing, then?" Joker asks over his shoulder, strolling over to get the knife again himself. This is his practice, after all. "Mister heartbeaker~."

"Do try not to get in the way, hmm?" Not that he expects Joker to do so. He just knows how people are when it comes to young love. His brother and the Earl are especially bad at keeping their noses out of his business when he's near a woman.

"I try not to brag about that kind of thing but I have a lot of experience with women and relationships. As a Lord of the Court I've had to dance with a lot of ladies, woe the most stature of baronesses and entertain every lady that asks me to a party. There are strings of broken hearts whether or not we end up in a bed for 'intimate fun' or not." Not to mention the amount of marriage proposals the Earl turns down simply because he knows Tyki likes to laze about.

"Horrible." Despite the word, Joker doesn't seem to be taking it seriously at all as he tugs the knife out and begins to idly spin it in his hand. Being so flexible means he has a little bit of an advantage when it comes to that bit of minor showboating.

"Yer incorrigible. Anyone ever tell ya that?" Don't ask where on earth he picked up that kind of word.

"At least dearest mother will have me all to himself for a long while then," he says in a well practiced manner. He's worth his weight in charm and seduction and he's done it for a long, long time that he at least goes for their satisfaction as well.

"You love it and that's why you'll never get rid of me~♥" He's an enabler and would do just about anything for Joker. Round up run away performances, give him a day off if he needed it, hire illusive singers to the carnival, kill someone who was a threat...

"Such a mum's boy~." Said with exactly the amount of regret on his face, which is absolutely none. He doubts Tyki will stay in the carnival for as long as Joker is tentatively planning to, but it'll be a nice few years while he does stay. At least Joker is used to people constantly coming and going in a traveling circus. Certainly he's better than some folks around here.

"Just keep yerself outta too much trouble, won't ya?"

"Whose fault is that?" Not his. He's the spoiled one here. It all depends on how all of this plays out. He had lost that hand of strip poker to the Ringmaster, taken his loss with grace, and had planed to faithfully serve that debt as a well needed vacation. He had arrived in the Summerlands and it had been peaceful at first. After that it was playing against his decision to stay very long at all.

"Yes, yes. I wouldn't dream of getting into further trouble, dear Joker~♥" He raises a hand over his shoulder and gestures in a half hearted wave as he turns back towards his beloved water tank.
