HELL OF A HANGOVER PT. 1

Who: The people who escaped!
When: Very early Day 66 to Day 67
Where: The Carnival
What: The Ringmaster brings everyone she can back to the carnival after getting kicked out the Celebration, a bit worse for wear. Those that have resolved their threads at the Masquerade can start trickling over here as they sort things out.
Warnings: Angst, mostly likely, as well as potentially graphic injuries.

RETURNING HOME

About 45 minutes after the conflict with the vampires begins, the Ringmaster will finally show her face at the Masquerade - and immediately be mortified by what she sees. Though initially mostly confused by the fact that there's been problems over the week, and characteristically obtuse about what's going on, as soon as she realizes the severity of the threat she will launch into action. If the Host managed to miss the combat already going on, they won't be able to miss the Ringmaster tearing up the joint and looking for her people. She's quick to scoop up those that have managed to gather in the dining hall - but unfortunately her arrival seems to be the vampire's cue to retreat.

Her attempt to challenge the Host about this will result in the being finally losing their patience and banishing all the vampires and all of the carnival workers from the premises, forcing them back to the portals they arrived from and launching their remaining belongings out with them. The Ringmaster will be pretty fucking pissed off when they return (once again) and will tell everyone to take the time they need to recover, but to stick together and stay safe for the time being. She has a plan to chase down the carnival members that have been stolen, but it will take time.

► BEER PONG: Apparently the Ringmaster spent the entire week playing a nonstop game of beer pong, against several dozen of the Host's bodies. She hadn't quite won yet when the Masquerade began, so she was late. Whether or not she was caught up in the same spell as everyone else is up to interpretation, but the answer "definitely probably." She won, for the record.

► MISSING: Upon doing headcounts, it will turn out that all the supervisors are missing, as well as several regular workers - a few of which will have been spotted as freshly turned vampires during the fighting. Whether that was the point of the attack or not is unclear, but it's pretty clear that the Ringmaster is a little bit devastated about it - particularly about the supervisors. However, she will refuse to talk to anyone long enough to get into too many details.

► THE PLAN: The Ringmaster will announce that she intends to get everyone back - it's just a matter of figuring out their way back to the dimension they've been stolen off to. She guarantees that she will find it, but that it may take some time. In the end, the workers will have a total of two days to recover and plan - during the evening of Day 67, she will be leading a rescue mission to get them all back. You don't have to come, but lives do depend on its success.

Where had he heard that before? A scoff as he looked away, sulkily. Slow down, indeed.

"I should be out there, they need my help--" was that a bit of arrogance? Yes, but there was real pain behind it too. His guilt was eating him up inside. He couldn't save them, he couldn't save Victor--

Ah. Maybe that's also where this desperation came from. He couldn't save his childhood best friend, and even subconsciously through all the years where he didn't even remember it, the desperate need to solve crimes, to get justice, to save people--because he couldn't save Victor.

"I'm not--" Feral? He was slightly insulted, his mouth opening to protest--he was above animal instincts, he wasn't going to let himself get overcome by something so stupid, it was an insult to his intelligence--

His eyes flicked down to the bandage on Jimmy's hand.

The time for being insulted had come and gone. Logically, Jimmy was right. As much as he railed against it, he had to accept that this was his reality now. And if he didn't calm down and rest, someone was going to get hurt and he'd be even more guilty. And that someone getting hurt would probably also be him.

Nah, he's not insulted. He merely shrugs and gives a sad sort of chuckle. He was right, after all. He was being an idiot.

"Well. If you do insist, Doctor."

Whoops. That slipped out. Jimmy reminded him so much of John right then. And if anything, he needed a John to tell him to shut up and sit down.

"Dear god no. If I was your doctor, I would have dropped you for being a terrible patient." Jimmy chuckles and shakes his head. "I can understand the need to be everywhere and do everything, but the only place that gets you is dead of a heart attack at forty. Or in your case, punctured lungs from broken ribs."

"If you want, I can make sure those silver weapons you mentioned make it into the hands of someone that is going, but you are not. You'd be more of a liability than a help, as much as they'd appreciate the sentiment." He's sympathetic, but he's also not that gung-ho to go straight back into hell. Once is enough for multiple lifetimes, thank you.

There's a scoff, but it's an amused one. At Sherlock's rate he was quite impressed with himself that he hadn't had a heart-attack yet, what with all he'd taken over the years. He wasn't exactly a person that cultivated stress, unlike John, who he actually did worry would need at least some form of high-blood pressure medicine in the next couple of years if he didn't watch his constant anger.

Of course, Sherlock was probably said reason for said constant anger.

"I...don't know if my weapons are silver. I don't...they're Atlantean, I never thought to inspect them for such properties," he admitted.

"Oh. Misunderstood you. Either way, I'm sure they'll be appreciated." At least Sherlock could contribute in some way, now that he's been talked out of playing pick up sticks with his ribs. "It's worth a look, at any rate."

"But you need to stay in bed and rest. Sleep, if you can. I can get you another round of water bottles, since I'm having no luck finding a heating pad at the moment." The blankets and hot water bottles are helping, but having refills at the ready will be a help down the road. "Once we get everyone back, it'll be easier to find one, but until then..." And there was no if they were getting the abducted back, only when.

"They're in my trailer, if anyone wants to use them," Sherlock said helpfully. Maybe this small contribution would placate him a little.

He settled further down into the blankets, one eyebrow raised in fond mockery. "Yes, of course. I wouldn't dream of sneaking off and joining the rescue mission." He wasn't, of course, he could scarcely make it out of bed, much less do anything remotely considered fighting. He finally let it go, a little. He was still in a sour mood about his own stupidity and self-loathing, but at least this was a start. Plus the sooner he could have a clearer mind to handle these instincts, the better. He hated how beholden he was to these 'feral' thoughts and actions.

When, indeed.

"Indeed. We can only hope."

With that, Sherlock looked, at least for a snake-person, like he was falling asleep a little. He struggled to keep his eyes open.

"I'll make sure they get into someone's hands." Jimmy's hoping he can get them into someone's hands before the rescue party leaves, but at the very least, he'll get them looked at.

"If you thought you could do it and actually make a difference, you'd do it in a heartbeat, regardless of the shape you were in." Jimmy shakes his head, but it's fond as he watches Sherlock drift off to sleep.

"I'll be back later with more hot water and something else to eat. Just take it easy and try to stay in bed." More for himself than Sherlock, given how fast Sherlock is fading.

Sherlock gives a vague mumble of affirmation to what Jimmy's saying, but he's already pretty much asleep. The blankets rose and fall as his breathing got deeper and steadier. It was probably for the best, considering how hurt he was.

Before, when he'd been shot, they had a hard time keeping him in bed when he didn't want to be. But when he was truly ill, at least that would force him to stay still.

Uneasy dreams of anxiety and horror would probably await him. He'd take the sweet bliss of unconsciousness when he could.
