⇨ HOME AGAIN

Who: Anyone!
When: Day 68 - Day 72
Where: Carnival grounds.
What: Everyone makes it back to the carnival after their adventure in hell. The Ringmaster makes a new lake to celebrate, apparently.
Warnings: A notable absence of torture.

TO HELL AND BACK

The rescuers and the liberated captives will emerge from the portal like bats out of hell. Much like their previous return, this arrival will be met with a flurry of medical activity as everyone gets their injuries seen to, particularly those that had been held prisoner within Morningstar's hell fortress. It will still be night when they arrive, and the rest of Day 68 will be clouded over completely, for the benefit of the new vampires as they get settled in. After the immediate panic is dealt with, the Ringmaster will disappear into the forest until the morning of Day 69. It will be raining off and on during her absence.

► RECOVERY: Unlike the last time, the Ringmaster will be supplying the carnival workers with some healing potions from her private hoard, given that most of the healers are already wounded or spent. Damage caused by iron poisoning will not be cured by healing magic or healing items though, unfortunately, and those who have spent a lot of time in contact with iron will take at least a week to fully recover. However, regular healing remedies like bandages and herbs may help speed things along if the patient is suited to them.

► A BRAND NEW LAKE: On the morning of Day 69, the Ringmaster will return the forest to announce that she's built a new lake into the carnival grounds, only a short trail's distance from the backyard. Unlike most of the forest, this area won't just lead you in circles when explored, meaning that it can actually be modified and developed as the workers see fit. The water is always clean and just the right temperature for swimming, though it gets a bit cooler the deeper you swim. At the far side of the lake, there is a warm, stone pathway leading up the side of the mountain, that will eventually take you to some bangin' hot springs. Brought to you mostly because the Ringmaster doesn't know how to say sorry with actual words. At least it gives you something to play with while you try to shake off the trauma.

► FRUITS OF VICTORY: On Day 70, all the workers who came to hell for the rescue mission will be given a gift from the Ringmaster. Each of them will receive a bright green, glowing seed, about the size of your thumbnail. She will tell you that, when planted, the seeds will swiftly grow into a small citrus tree, which will grow fruits with regenerative properties. More details about these plants will be written up in a separate post, but for now your characters can ogle them and decide if they are going to plant them or not.

► TAKE ME TO CHURCH: Staring on Day 71, the Ringmaster will be starting to work on removing the vampirism from those infected with it, which apparently involves a lot of... meditation? She will take the newbie vampires out into a shady area of the forest and encourage them to look inside themselves and attempt to separate themselves spiritually from their demonic beasts. How well you character masters her teachings over time will determine whether or not she is ultimately capable of stripping out your demon soul and returning you to life. Of course, not all demons are made equal, and some will be more difficult to separate than others...

[He'll give you a moment to realize that 'yes', he's back. But for now, Gongenzaka shifts a few blankets over the other. They'll have to do a lot of laundry after this, but it's worth it, he figures.

As it is, the tea kettle has yet to finish boiling.
] ...I, the man Gongenzaka, did not think I would find you wandering in such weather after all that occurred...

[It took a few more minutes for Sherlock's beleaguered mind to register that yes. Indeed, Gon was back. His eyes opened wider and he sat up--gingerly, and slowly. He was miffed to discover that while he was still chilled, he could not move quickly.]

You're...you're all right.

[A flick of his forked tongue and a glance with his heat-sensors told him everything he needed to know otherwise. Ah. Still a vampire then?]

I had a few things to do, so...

[A guilty pause. The last time he'd seen Gon, he'd stabbed him.]

I...I fear I must apologize for...um, the silverware...thing. And attacking you.
betheman: (oh god what)

[Water has since started to dry off from his form in the heat, though his paws and hooves still leave slight marks across the floor. The heat in the room is slowly rising, but with it, the sound of the kettle slowly begins to peak.] Apologize..? [Gongenzaka asks in shock, removing it from the stove.] Sherlock... I attacked you..! Had you not done so yourself, I, the man Gongenzaka...

...I would have certainly killed you..!
thevictoriandetective: (It's not a good day.)

[There's a slight smirk. Oh, how he'd worried over them all, fearing the worst with this vampire nonsense. As much as it pained him to admit it, he was even glad to hear Gon's verbal habit of referring to himself as 'the man' again. The guilt from the party had been tearing at him.]

That wasn't your fault, you were--are--

--you can't help your instincts, you shouldn't feel responsible for them.

[Was he talking about himself, too? He'd snapped at Jimmy like a common snake not too long ago. Beastial instincts, which he'd been trying and successfully burying all this time, were let loose when a vampire mind-controlled him and released them.]

If I hadn't been blitzed out of my mind, I could have noticed the vampires. Fought better. Done something about it.

I was an idiot.

Sherlock. [Gongenzaka's voice is stern, and he shakes his more doggish head.]

I, the man Gongenzaka, was lured aside by these beings, unable to notice them as well. None of us realized they were there, until they made themselves known!

If I, the man Gongenzaka, can be forgiven...then you, most certainly, deserve it as well. I should hardly think that you were a fool, in that moment.

[His face softened, the guilt clear as day on it. Well, as much as a reptile face could, anyway.]

I was stupid enough to succumb to old habits. I remember you and Jimmy...that one night, it's a bit fuzzy but...you both saved me. I am forever grateful and...I apologize for...for all of it.

[Both of them had seen him at his worst, it was both embarrassing and shameful. And it had led to his ineffectiveness at the disastrous masquerade.]

No, Gon. I was a fool. I still am.

...That incident is separate, [He says quietly, his voice all the same like stone.] ...The foolishness of one act does not determine the foolishness of another.

If I hadn't been high as a kite I could have done something...

[His clawed hands were trembling slightly in fists, as he looked down.

This was how much he actually cared, most people would never see it, usually they'd not know what to look for. But Sherlock truly did care, too much at times.]

I tried. Over and over again, and I kept losing more and more. I thought this was it, you all were sealed to a date worse than death. I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself if...

[personal profile] betheman 2017-03-28 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
And what would you have done?

[Gongenzaka's voice is stern and grave, and he presses on.] By the time we encountered the other it was already too late. More importantly, Sherlock, you were not the only one who I, the man Gongenzaka, fought with.

...If anything it seems you managed to escape with less injury than they.

[personal profile] thevictoriandetective 2017-03-28 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sherlock's quiet, either too regretful to say something else or worse, that Gon was perfectly and 100% right. What could he have done really?

And considering how large and strong Gon was, he really did get off lightly, all things considered. He could have easily killed him.]

You managed to hold back when you were fighting me.

[Sherlock spoke after a long, pensive pause.]

That's...well done.
betheman: (FUCK THAT)

[personal profile] betheman 2017-03-29 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[So he did. Gongenzaka considers this in silence, looking to the tea kettle as he takes it and starts pouring. He managed to hold back once, twice...long enough that it wasn't until he was in the towers that he needed to eat, even.

And on Sherlock's part...
] ....You yourself... ...you stayed alive, even while laying a mark upon me.

...That is a show of remarkable strength, and more importantly...remarkable courage, Sherlock.
thevictoriandetective: (Thinking.)

[personal profile] thevictoriandetective 2017-03-30 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sherlock looked up, his brows furrowing. That was one of the few positive things that he'd quite failed to realize.]

That's...very kind of you to say.

And you must have had remarkable courage yourself, to endure what you did.

[The guilt remained, though it was lessened, somewhat. He doubted it would ever disappear.]

[Hah...well, there are so many things here they can go back and forth about that as he brings some tea over, he can only smile now.]

...It appears we are both now placing significant blame upon ourselves, now that I, the man Gongenzaka, think of it...

It seems we must accept a 'tie'!
thevictoriandetective: (I know.)

[personal profile] thevictoriandetective 2017-04-01 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems so.

[A sad smile as well, as he reaches over to have some tea. He lifts a cup in solidarity and in a toast.]

To getting back to normal. Whatever normal is around here.

H-haH! [Gongenzaka lifts his own cup as well, grinning.] Indeed-to 'returning to normal'!
