Although he eventually came out of the bathroom that first night, Susan still didn't talk to Lauren. Instead he avoided his brother as best he could, falling asleep curled up with Fluff (and Stanley, if she let him) on the bed.

The next day he went out, even though Lauren had told him not to; he didn't know a lot about vampires, and even though he felt bad doing it (especially when he was still worried about Lauren), he was pretty sure they couldn't go out in the sun, so it was an easy way to not have to talk to him. He didn't want another argument, not any more - not that he knew what else to do, not when he was feeling pretty bad now, but that didn't matter. He just didn't want Lauren to yell at him and tell him he's wrong.

By that night, though, he still wasn't feeling any better - and even though he still didn't want to really talk to his brother, he still missed him and wanted to be with him.

Once it was late, and he was sure Lauren would be asleep, Susan quietly left the sofa where he'd been originally planning on sleeping, instead slipping into the room with his brother. From there he quietly made his way to the bed, climbing under the covers while being as careful as he could to not wake him.

Susan just shoves him again, glaring.

"Yeah, and you're in my way!" He knows he's probably being stupid, but he doesn't care. He just wants to be mad and go climb a tree or something and yell at the world.

He stumbles back again, and if the vampire part of him was mad before now it's absolutely raging. Lauren sneers, his fangs clearly visible as he steps forward and pushes Susan hard.

Susan of course is pathetically weak in comparison to Lauren, so when Lauren pushes him he goes down easily, only managing to catch himself from hitting his head by catching himself with his arms behind him as he falls. He looks surprised a moment before glaring again and standing up, trying to push Lauren again. Who cares if it's working, he's mad.

Lauren is surprised too. He hadn't meant to do that, he'd just reacted with new instincts he didn't understand. He's still as Susan get's up from surprised, and when Susan pushes him again he feels suddenly overwhelmed.

"Stop!" he shouts, this time grabbing his brother's arms instead of shoving him away. "Just, stop!"

Susan immediately tries to struggle away, and after a moment he's speaking the familiar incantation for Mage Hand without even thinking about it - but no spectral hand appears from nowhere to push at Lauren, and Susan scrunches his eyes shut tight, not even looking, somehow hoping it's worked even though he can't feel it.

Lauren flinches, expecting to be knocked down by the spell, but then nothing happens. He looks around, feeling confused and his grip on Susan loosens.

Susan doesn't move, even as Lauren's grip loosens; he can tell it hasn't worked, but he doesn't want to believe it, he can't even really grasp the concept of it. His magic's always there, he knows it, she was only lying to trick him. That has to be it. Maybe the hand just didn't do what he wanted, that's all.

"Susan?" he's beyond confused. Why didn't it work? Susan has been casting mage hand since he was old enough to talk.

He shakes his head, still not daring to open his eyes or move in any other way. He can't even tell how he feels, he doesn't know what's going on, and he just shakes his head again as the reality really starts to sink in.

"Susan..." he says now in sadness rather than confusion. As the hand keeps failing to appear a strange sort of anxiety starts to weigh him down

"What happened?"

Susan shakes his head again, and it takes a long moment for him to even start to answer.

"The... The Ringmaster -" He doesn't even try to continue after that, just shaking his head again and pulling away from Lauren to wrap his arms around himself. He just doesn't understand.

It doesn't matter that he's pulled away, because Lauren immediately steps forward to wrap his arms around his brother in a hug.

Susan of course doesn't stop him, and he even leans into the hug, his shoulders shaking as he starts to cry.

Lauren just keeps holding him, rubbing his back as he starts to cry.

"I'm sorry Susie."

He doesn't even respond, just continuing to lean into Lauren's hug as he cries.

He holds him for a while, before he leads them both over to the bed. He wishes he knew what to say or do to help, but he has a feeling the only thing that will help is time. He knows the feeling of suddenly loosing a part of yourself. He'd experienced it himself only a few days ago.

His crying takes a bit to calm down, feeling completely lost as he does; his magic's always been there, he doesn't know what it's like to not have it, and now it's gone. What can he even do without it? It's all he has.

Even once he's calmed a bit, he's still sniffling, and he still doesn't say anything or do anything other than lean against Lauren as they sit/lay on the bed. What even is there to say?

"How do you feel?" he asks, voice quiet after a long moment of shared silence between them.

"I don't know." It's probably one of the most honest and open things Susan's ever said about his feelings. He honestly doesn't know how he feels right now, he just feels empty.

He looks away, not sure what to make of that answer.

"Did... She say why?"

He's quiet for a bit before finally mumbling an answer.

"For attacking her."

Of course. He was surprised something like this hadn't happened sooner, to be honest. Maybe she wanted him to be able to protect himself from the vampires. Still, Susan was acting strange before, but now he felt like it would only get even worse.

"Maybe... You could get it back?"

He only shrugs in response to that. He didn't know how it could just be gone, so he doesn't know how it could just be back. It doesn't make sense to him, and he has no idea what to say or think or feel right now.

He looks away at Susan's silence. He really has no idea how to handle this.

"Do you want Fluff?"

He just shrugs again. She's part of his magic, and he isn't sure he wants her here, especially when he isn't sure he can even talk to her... But at the same time, she's soft and he likes petting her, and it always makes him feel better.
