THE WOLVES AMONG US↴![]() ► WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS: It's fairly common knowledge that October is a special month - Halloween has always been an excitable time in the supernatural community, because its during this month that the magical energies of Earth seem to disproportionately swell in power. This peeks on the 31st, and has every year for as long as anyone can remember. The holiday of Halloween is a byproduct of this, because the magical phenomenon has gone on for ages past. It's also a pretty common time for wizards to attempt bullshit shenanigans, and also when the Severing first came into effect. ► TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL: Towards the end of the week, Prudence Jaeger will be asking her angelic contacts for a pretty huge favour - she wants them to help her and some of her associates break into the Circle stronghold that the visiting Council members are staying at. It seems that they have some kind of macguffin item that will be needed to crack the barrier cutting off the Earth from the cosmos - and, to that end, allow the angels and mysterious outsiders to return to wherever they call home. ► THE PATH TO HELL: Perhaps unsurprisingly, Team Heaven isn't the only group to clue into the fact that the Circle has what they need. On the same night that the angels go in, so will Anath's army, as the arch demon finally arrives in the city just in time to join the party. Whether the angels and demons fight each other all the way or cooperate to achieve a mutual goal is up to them. ► WITH GOOD INTENTIONS: The Circle and Torchlight aren't all bad, okay? It's entirely possible that they are just acting in the best interest of humanity - unfortunately, that has resulted in them being pretty massive pricks recently, and now the payback for that is arriving on their doorstep. If you're a member of the Circle, you may or may not realize that anything is coming in time for you to prepare. (That will depend on your threads up to the end of the week.) However, once the fight starts, you'll be charge with defending the Councillors whether you like it or not, and Torchlight is getting pulled in as an unexpected ally to ensure their safety as well. Are you going to heed their call? Or is it time to split from the pack? ► BLOOD OF ICE AND FIRE: It's been made no secret that the Rose Queen isn't the only fae trying to pull back her lost changelings - now the Winter Court appears to be doing it, as well. More than a handful of changelings have gone missing over the last couple weeks, lost to both the thorns and agents of the Count. Whatever they're doing, it's also in competition with each other - Winter and Summer will be biting at each other's heels far more than normal, to the degree that it becomes clear they must have some competing objective in mind. Unfortunately for everyone else, that objective happens to conflict with the desires of just about everyone else. Fae are, by nature, opportunists. These are the major conflicts that will be coming to a head towards the end of Week 3. In the meantime, your actions will decide how certain elements are set up, and what the likelihood of success is for each group. Dice rolling handily won the opinion poll where we asked for the preferred method of conflict resolution, so that will be coming into effect a bit later on to determine who actually wins and loses, with advantages based on the choices made. |

Is this even Ginko? What happened to him?
"Dad... something's wrong with him," Steven says, his voice tight. He isn't the only one to notice, but he wants it to be clear. This isn't like the man he remembers. Steven closes his eyes, like he's trying to wish himself away from all of this. The vines keep growing around their feet, slowly beginning to form a barrier between Steven and Ginko's bodies.
"It feels like her."
no subject
The sudden flare of her magic, however, brings that chance to an unyielding crash. Greg knows her feel just as well as Steven, and as soon as Ginko tenses up Greg follows through on his promise.
From the outside, there's a hilarious anticlimax as Greg begins firing little pellets at Ginko, the springs giving a cheery little twang! after each round. Ginko, however, will find the bite of the little lead ball bearings far more painful than the force behind them.
Greg closes the distance between them, firing all the way, to grab at Steven. "Come on!"
no subject
Shit, no-- no, this can't happen, it can't--
Ginko nearly collapses as another surge of pain tears through his skull, and the flower growing in his empty eye socket bursts to life, sending a sickly-sweet scent into the air all around them. He makes another grab for Steven.

And then he coughs and covers his mouth just as quickly, that smell penetrating with a familiar ease. He knows this smell. He knows what it can do, and if him and his dad don't get away from it they won't be able to fight back.
"We have to help him," he pleads through the sleeve of his coat.
""""Heroism""""
It is a window of time that exists purely because, with the park as open as it is, there's a minute or so of time that Foster spends running towards this disaster but hasn't reached it. A window of time in which there is way too much going on. A window of time during which he takes in the scene in haphazard details--Ginko, doubling over. An entire wall of vines.
One literal fucking child.
That's it. He is going to make Ginko pay for this.
So from Steven and Greg's point of view, Foster's arrival doesn't look much like a noble act of heroism. It looks a lot like a skinny, pissed off, shirtless man suddenly charging directly into Ginko's blast zone and tackling him to the ground.

Even as the horror of what's been done to this poor changeling sinks in, Steven's begging him to do something. Already his son's been put in danger--can he help this man while keeping him safe?
Before he can come to a conclusion, another party comes barreling in to change the situation. Greg balks. Who--that guy. He knows that guy. What his name, Falkner? Forester? Foster. Where did he come from, and what's he doing here?
Greg keeps backing up, holding Steven close. Whatever's going on here, what matters most is keeping Steven out of it.

Between Ginko's surprise and the fact that he was pretty off-balance to begin with, Foster's tackle is enough to bowl him over entirely, and he hits the ground with a pained grunt. He rolls onto his back, trying frantically to shove his attacker away, and-- wait what the fuck.
"--Foster?! What are you doing, get-- get off of me!"
no subject
He's really overwhelmed right now. He clings to Greg, even though something is making him want to race over to the fight and intervene.
"Don't hurt him!" he yells at Foster, with a sob in his throat.
no subject
Foster grabs a handful of Ginko's coat in anger, yanking it up and over the man's head and shoving his friend's face into the dirt.
"Shut up."
He's not interested in being nice about this--he's still ticked about Ginko's refusal to listen to him on the phone, and the fact that now he knows how doesn't make it any better. If anything, it makes it worse. The ongoing phenomenon of fae malignancy in his life has already pushed him well past his fairly limited patience; his friends are one factor that should be at least somewhat under his control.
And yet.
Even wrestling with the flailing man, he manages to look up just for a second. He's still getting over the fact that apparently Steven is a literal child. A changeling child, maybe, but still a literal fucking child.
"Oh, I won't," he reassures Steven in what is probably the least reassuring tone possible.
"I want him alive, because I have a lot to say to him about this."
The last is delivered through gritted teeth. Ginko outweighs him by like 100 pounds and Foster is already tiring from fighting to keep him subdued, pushing his friend's covered head down with white-knuckled frustration. Unfortunately, he's not exactly physically fit. In a minute he's going to have to turn into a bear just to keep the upper hand--the advantage of surprise only lasts so long.
no subject
He keeps struggling under Foster, but, with his coat pulled over his head, he's essentially trapped with the too-sweet scent of the flower in his eye. It's dense, heavy, sickening, weighing down his limbs and fogging up his mind, and a surge of panic makes his struggles all the more aggressive for a moment before he finally starts weakening.
