Lapis likes to believe that the only reason she bothers coming to Lamberts' house now that her unwanted dog visitor has departed is because of Pumpkin, and certainly not the vague feelings of comfort and familiarity that Peridots' presence brings. Unfortunately while she can verbally deny such things, she's still drawn in by the other girl all the same.

Maybe it's just hormones. It's probably hormones, right? Lapis leans over Peridot, resting her arms and weight on her shoulders and looking around to her current studies

"Multi-universe theory." She comments, a hint of disappointment. Of course it's weird stuff. Why wouldn't it be weird stuff? Why wouldn't her life just give her something normal to deal with for once? "Seriously? Don't you have better hobbies?"

Peridot grunts with surprise and tries to pull back, but Lapis is too quick for her.

Her mouth may be pulled into a grin, but she is definitely not smiling with her eyes.

"Duly noted," she growls, the words warped by the unnatural shape her lips are pulled into.

"You should probably work on that bad attitude too." She says, just pointing it out helpfully. She's also not letting go of Peridots face just yet, instead opting to suddenly squish it before she does. "If you want to fit in you might wanna work on getting people to like you."

"Mmmpphh--" She rubs her cheek with one hand, scowling. "I don't want to have to change to fit in," she mutters, glancing away. "I just want to find a place where I can fit in and still be me."

Which is an incredibly high-school thing for a college student to be saying but. Peridot has a lot of baggage that she has yet to sort out. Call her a late bloomer.

"I don't think that's how social life works." Lapis points out with a wave of her hand that suggests sagely knowing. "Your second best bet then would to just be dating someone popular, by proxy making you popular." She's seen it before, on TV shows and the like. Once or twice in real life too.

Peridot blushes uncomfortably. "Alright that's enough. I think I've had more than my fill of your 'advice' for one afternoon," she huffs, drawing herself up to sit cross legged on the bed.

"My advice is good advice. I'd date you." Which probably isn't the best thing to blurt out to someone who you've only known for a week or two, but whatever, it's out there anyway, and Lapis can downplay it like a champ. "Pumpkin is worth at least that much."

That's a terrible bait and switch, Lapis. And Peridot's not good enough at gauging people to read between the lines here. She barely even acknowledges her heart skipping a beat in hopeful surprise before she's frowning at that tacked on comment.

"So you're saying that... I'm worth dating. But. Only because I have a superlative dog," Peridot replies dryly.

"She's a very good dog." Honestly, Lapis has never met a dog she's liked as much as this one. That's beyond the point, though. "More people should ask to date you to know the wonder that is Pumpkin."

"I mean. I can't exactly disagree with that sentiment, I guess." Her dog IS quite good...

"So? Wanna date?" Is she going to have to spell it out planer for Peridot or is she going to catch on now? Hopefully it's now.

...Peridot just goggles at her, eyes wide and round. What... what the heck... Did she hear that right? Did she really just ask that?

"I... Can't tell if you're being serious or not," she says in a small voice after a moment, brows meeting in a look of vague concern. Like. Why would she be serious? Lapis basically said it herself. In Peridot's chest does not beat the heart of a romantic.

"Well, I could kiss you right here and now and say i'm being absolutely serious, but I'm not about to get smacked for the effort. But yeah, i'm serious." And if Peridot wants it, then she'll kiss her.

"Oh my goodness. You are. You're serious," Peridot babbles, almost more to herself than to Lapis. She glances down into her lap where she's fidgeting her thumbs against one another, eyes becoming slightly unfocused. This is... This kind of situation is unprecedented? NONE OF HER TRAINING FROM THE TEEN DRAMA SCHOOL OF ROMANCE PREPARED HER FOR THIS?

Her head snaps back up to look at Lapis suddenly, face hot. "I-It's not that I'm disinterested!" Peridot says way too loudly, and winces at her own volume, immediately correcting. "It's just that IIII... Don't really know what I'm doing...?" she explains, words pitching up at the end of the sentence.

"Well, thankfully at least one of us does then, yeah?" Lapis leans in real close, taking Peridot by the chin like one of those terrible teen romance dramas. It's here that she stops, though. "If I kiss you you better not smack me."

Peridot's eyes are wide and bright, literally about as close as a real person can get to looking like she just jumped straight out of a shoujo manga page. It's kind of ridiculous. She can feel her heart pounding against her ribs. What the heck, this is all happening so suddenly and so QUICKLY--

"I won't!" she says indignantly, tense with anticipation. Just be cool Peridot. BE COOL.

Well, Lapis will take that as gospel, because she closes the remaining distance between them with her lips. There it is, Peridot, there's your kiss, and Lapis is going to wait expectantly to see just how she reacts to it. And get ready to pull back if need be.

She reacts by locking up, for one. Their lips touch and... well, it's nothing like the magical, charmingly clumsy but picture perfect moments that she's seen happen in all the romance movies. There's no moment of hesitation followed by a flash of inspiration to tell her exactly what to do here. There's no instinct to kick in, her inexperience isn't magically cured by that single smooch. Instead, it's like Lapis making contact sends an electrical shock through Peridot's whole body, shorting her brain out with overwhelming emotion like the inexperienced little nerd she is.

That's not to say she doesn't really absolutely very much feel overwhelmingly positive about it, though. If Lapis bothers to separate, she'll see Peridot sitting there looking absolutely gobsmacked, like she's only just seeing things clearly for the very first time.

"Wow," she says in a small voice, her eyes wide with wonderment.

You chose this Lapis. JUST REMEMBER THAT.

Yeah, she chose this. And for some unknown reason, she really wouldn't have it any other way? It's weird, and Lapis could probably do better than some shut in nerd, but that's not really the point here.

The point, is that Lapis seems a little stunned from the kiss too, and she follows up Peridot's little 'Wow' with a heavily appraising look... And then she's back on her again, kissing her that much harder, because, well, why not?

At least now Peridot is a bit more confident about kissing back. She's tentative at first, and then increasingly clumsy, but uh. Hopefully her enthusiasm makes up for it?

Feeling bold, she puts a hand on Lapis's thigh to steady herself, as she tries to rise to meet the other woman's height a bit more closely.

It could really be better. It absolutely, positively could be better, and Lapis is going to have to chalk this up to a learning experience for poor Peridot, because there's just no way she's kissed anyone besides family before, and familial kissing just isn't exactly going to cut it.

Lapis moves her hand on top of Peridots' and... slides it further up her thigh while leaning forward into the kiss, the quirk of her lips at least indicating she's more amused than anything else? Peridot has that going for her, at least.

Peridot breaks off at this moment, startled by Lapis shifting her hand for her. Cheeks flushed, she blinks with uncertainty, first at her hand and then up at Lapis, like, wait, are you actually saying what I think you're saying?

Lapis doesn't really say anything to the look, instead quirking her lip upwards in an amused fashion and giving a small shrug. She's not going to force Peridot, but the offer is certainly there. It's up to Peridot to decide whether or not she wants to continue.

The staring persists. Peridot looks like she's starting to sweat a little, with the effort of figuring out what to say.

"...So I know this may come as a huge surprise to you," she says after a moment, tone mild, "But I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing."

Honesty is definitely the best policy in all situations, right?

"Really? I had no idea that you'd have no idea what you were doing. You seemed like someone who would have had a lot of experience." Lapis replies in a completely casual tone, squeezing Peridot's hand just enough to make Peridots' hand squeeze her thigh. And then she moves it to the hem of her shirt.

"You alright with seeing how far we can take this?"

Is she...? In a more logical sense, this all just seems so sudden. She's only been hanging out with Lapis for a few weeks now. Hell, that smooch followed by that all-too-brief makeout session just now was literally her first attempt at kissing anyone. Ever. Is she really prepared to take this thing even further...?

Something in her gut-- and really, Peridot isn't usually one for following instinct, so feeling this strongly about something despite a lack of concrete evidence is a new one on her-- tells her that yeah. She's ready. She's ready because for whatever reason, Lapis feels worth making that jump for. Because it doesn't feel like it has only been a few weeks that they've been friends. Peridot likes her, trusts her implicitly in a way that should be completely illogical, ludicrous, ill-advised even, but it feels seems right.

"Yeah," Peridot says after a beat, flashing a small but confident grin. "I think I'm willing to learn a thing or two."
