whattaprick: (back the fuck up)

let's get down to business

Who: Nightrunners and whoever wants to make use of the training yard for whatever reason.
When: S2 D1-D5
Where: The Training Yard
What: Training, or pointing and laughing at people training.
Warnings: Explosions and swearing, probably.

Though it's never really been off-limits, once they're down off the moon, Lambert wastes little time informing the nightrunners he officially expects them to get back to training and getting in shape. They can make ample use of the training yard facilities to learn how to work with each other after their extended vacation, or just get to know their newer coworkers in an environment closer to what their actual working conditions will actually be like.

The yard, as usual, isn't limited solely to nightrunners. Anyone who wants to work on their physical or magical skills are welcome, as well as anyone from the other departments who have anything they might want to test out that requires a combatant, for some reason.

Lambert's generally a constant presence at the fringes, sometimes participating in exercise or sparring himself, but mostly just watching and making sure no one's about to put someone's eye out or break the equipment, because that would be bad for obvious reasons.

"Oh, no, no." Joker chuckles a bit. "At least, not yet. I still have to watch over Performance's practice, after all." While he may want to make sure the Carnival is protected, and better defend himself, well... He's the Stage Manager. What goes on under the big top and all the smaller tops takes priority for him.

"Besides, I have a rough understandin' of swords, although not the best."

Syrlya doesn't expect anyone outside the nightrunners and security to actually fight for the carnival--that's their job, after all. Though, that still doesn't explain what Joker's doing here now if not practice, except maybe just the loiter.

"I see... are you looking to improve at it?"

"I probably should, but..." He holds his hand out to the side, fingers spread. "No sword." At least, he lost his a long while ago in another world, and he's never bothered to get a new one. There hadn't been much need for it... at least until recently.

Now he just has throwing knives.

Syrlya wiggles the training sword for emphasis. "That is what these are here for, I believe."

And probably so security doesn't stab each other to def while 'training'.

"Oh, so if Lambert asks me what I'm doin' runnin' off with one of yer trainin' swords, I can put the blame on you, yeah?"

Ah, the shit-eating grin. Joker wears it well and often. Still, it's only a tease. "So is that an offer ta spar, then?"

"They're fairly replaceable." He doesn't expect Lambert to get particularly peeved about one less wooden sword.

"If you are willing. As you said, the dummies are a little lacking for a challenge."

A bit of humor going over the head, huh? Well, Joker doesn't let himself worry about it much. Instead, he just starts to hum and begins to head off to where he thinks he saw them last.

"Well, if ya insist. There's actually somethin' I wouldn't mind if ya helped me test out, actually."

"Oh?" Syrlya steps back from the training dummy to face Joker properly. He's assuming it's some sort of new ability--Joker doesn't look like a rugged fighter, so perhaps his preference is in magic as well. "What were you looking to do?"

"I got somethin' from the Ringmaster-" With that, he adjusts his wings, lowering them down and tugging something up from inbetween two of them. It's usually pretty easy to keep the cloak tucked back that way, especially since he flies so much.

"I can tell it's pretty sturdy on my own, but I think another person might help me figure out the limits."

Syrlya leans over to inspect the cloak, raising a brow. "What is it meant to do?"

Some sort of magic armor, or does it have a special effect?
pipers_son: (leyline) (Last night is one of those stories)

"Protect me, I imagine." Taking some of the cloak in his own hand, he extends it a little further for a better look. The feather detailing is quite nice, although it doesn't look particularly tough.

"The Ringmaster's note on it said it would help me protect things."

Syrlya reaches out to feel the cloak between his fingers. He knows some qualities of cloth in Tyria are extremely reinforced for preventing damage, like his. So the idea of it isn't too strange, although he wonders if this is just strong material or some sort of magical effect.

"She did not give an explanation to it? Simply wear it and you're safe?"
pipers_son: (leyline) ("Five things that make you perfect. Go.")

"Of course not," Joker says, voice mingled dry exasperation and something that almost seems like it could be amusement. The Ringmaster is still Fae in the end, and, apparently, Fae are just dumb mysterious know-it-alls who forget to inform people about things, even if it's fairly important.

At least the cloth seems sturdy underneath Syrlya's grip, reinforced in a way that's at least light armor levels on some of the design if not seeming like it should be much more. Then again, who knows. Fae.

"She said it'd helped me protect others, too." Joker shrugs. "And I think I could manage ta hide me and at least one other person beneath it, although I haven't tried too much."
