CRYPTIC CAMPGROUNDS↴![]() You're given about three hours to prepare, after the Ringmaster tells you her plans for the coming week. There is a vast selection of camping equipment at your disposal, and the means to take along enough food for the length of the stay. The wilderness of the planet you're left on is nearly idyllic, but some people just don't like the great outdoors. ► CRYPTOZOOLOGY: As it turns out, the carnival won't be alone here. There is a varied ecosystem of cryptids to be found as well, living in relative peace and mostly reacting to the newcomers with curiousity. More details can be found on the plotting post. You are free to NPC the cryptids as much as you need to, as long as you stick to the behaviours described. ► DREAMSHARING: There is a player plot going on which will allow characters to share dreams! These are specifically more dreams than nightmares, and the mushi-adept characters will be here to help. ► CHILLAX: There isn't any plot twist for this setting, so this is mostly an opportunity to decompress from the last plot and get ready for the future. The Ringmaster will show up occasionally to help with needed medical treatments and check on things, but won't stick around for long. |
FIRST HALF OF THE EVENT | OTA
Yuusei admittedly has never camped before, but living in poverty for basically all his life has taught him a few things. He, Jack, and Crow had found some old tents before while scavenging through the junk piles littering Satellite; he can fondly recall the difficulty the three of them experienced as small children trying to pitch a ratty adult-sized tent. Now, though, as an adult with up to six effective hands standing up to several feet in height? This'll be a piece of cake. His balance standing on two legs has improved, so pitching a tent shouldn't take much time at all.
...except Carly's tent, big as it may be, is a quick set, so they don't have to do much more than toss it and it's done. This means he's left mostly trotting around while Carly squares away some other things on her own. He occasionally strolls by other campers as he tries some more complex leg movements in his spare time, mostly practicing some prancing and galloping as well as some two-leg walking. These are important skills for diversifying his work, okay?
Not everyone is used to the outdoor life. Do you need a hand or four with your tent? Or with anything else, for that matter?
[THAT ROIT THER'SA FUDOBEAST | D65+, DAYTIME]
Does he spend a lot of time in the great outdoors? Not necessarily, no. He'd honestly prefer to be surrounded by machines and just work all day, but that currently isn't an option, so here he is.
That said, there's something absolutely freeing about being able to just run off into the woods without the patrol team on your ass, and after spending a day doing relatively little, he finds it difficult to resist the temptation of doing exactly that. He gets up early in the morning before the sun has had a chance to pull itself above the horizon, and once he thinks he's made it far enough away from the majority of the campers, he bounds through the forest, enjoying the breeze against his face and bare arms.
Sometimes he might be seen just be racing across the forest floor; other times he'll be scaling a tree, attempting to see just how high he can go. Whenever he's nearby, though, he seems oblivious to the other carnival members as he passes by, and when he isn't on the move, he appears to stare off into space. A light nudge or call of his name should be enough to bring him out of it, though.
[INSOMNIAC TINKERING | D65+, EVENINGS]
Yuusei comes back around early evening, offering to help with food but otherwise not talking much. More often than not, he'll settle down on a soft section of ground (or a blanket if there is one) after retrieving some sort of collection of metal pieces. He takes a few into his human hands and begins to tinker with them, attempting to fit them together in various fashions. There's another set in his foreclaws doing the same thing; he mostly glances back and forth between the two, but eventually it seems like one set of hands works automatically while he's more focused on the other.
Sometimes instead of big metal parts, you might find him drawing a small needle and thread through a patch of cloth. He's only using one set of hands for that for the moment, although he seems to be switching between sets after amounts of time to stretch his fingers for awhile.
He can be found either of these things at various times in the night, including outside his tent at some ungodly hour. He seems to have even more pieces than before when he's alone. Is this your sort of thing? Sharing is caring, after all.
WILDCARD: if you've got any other ideas, feel free to hit me with what you've got or hit me up on discord/plurk for some plotting!
[THAT ROIT THER'SA FUDOBEAST | D65+, DAYTIME]
"Should you misstep, bones can break."
It's a little helpful, friendly advice from your neighborhood death god! Of course if Yuusei turns to look at him, he might not think him helpful or friendly in the least. Hades's appearance has a tendency of shifting to suit the onlooker's vision or impression of death. Is he monstrous or an old friend? That is for Yuusei to decide.

It's a number of things happening very quickly that drive him to come by, really. The voice, of course - which he currently cannot place - is one factor, and the 'friendly advice' is certainly another. But what truly caught his attention in its entirety was what he saw out of the corner of his eye when he passed. Or rather, whom he saw.
Yuusei is no stranger to death - he grew up with it in Satellite, and it surrounded him during the Signer War - but to see Kiryu? Here? Exactly how he was before he turned to dust in Yuusei's arms? He's obviously taken aback, staring incredulously as he slows to a stop. His chest aches for a moment, but just for a moment.
In the end, it's the words of Hades echoing back at him in his mind that brings him out of it, at least for now; because he remembers that voice over the radio from a recent night, and that certainly wasn't Kiryu talking back then, right? Right?
He looks a little less unsettled than he did before, at least.
He simply shrugs and trots a little closer, hoping not to scare off the jackalope. "If I misstep on the ferris wheel, a lot more things will break than just bones. I'm aiming to get better at that."
no subject
Oh he has many questions for his creator should they ever meet. Twirling a flower between his fingers, he cants his head to the side to watch Yuusei's approach.
"A ferris wheel is a ride. What skill does it require but for you to sit still?"
Unless this young man is using the ferris wheel as a sort of...training ground? But for what? The Jackalope makes a soft sound and Hades smiles, offering the creature the flower as a treat. Soon the bloom is devoured and the Jackalope is searching for another. It hops off of the lounging god and seeks out the blooms for itself.

"Wh... Oh, no, I mean... I'm part of engineering," he hastily explains. "There's some extra skill involved when you have to fix it."
He pauses once more before gesturing to Hades' general form.
"So, do you... do this on purpose? Or is it something that just happens?"
Tinkering
"Hey...! How's it going, Yusei?"
In addition to his companion, the teen's toting with him some kind of wood-grained book.

As such, when any amount of light does appear in his peripheral, his attention immediately turns to it, and he tilts his head in curiosity as the pair approaches. "Yuugo...!" He smiles somewhat sleepily. "Things are fine. Uneventful, but that's rather nice about now." There's a lot to take in here, given he's never seen the little dragon or this seemingly-special book. "What brings you around so late?"
no subject
And then Yugo decides to settle down next the man. Because he just has a feeling that this might turn into more than just simple small talk. "What about you?"
no subject
"...and yet I can't seem to will myself to just sleep through it or something." He tosses a chunk of twisted-together parts in one claw while his human set continues to work with what they're holding. "I suppose I'm just trying to busy myself until I get tired."
no subject
One might say if the dragon had legs that they suddenly pounced for it, but it's more like the dragon rushes forward with haste for the thing.
"Hey wha...?! Oh." is Yugo lets out while startled, but then he's not surprised after the initial shock.
