⇨ CAMPING GROUNDS

Who: Everybody!
When: Day 64
Where: The Camping Grounds
What: While the Ringmaster attempts to purge the carnival of magical tracing spells and deal with the angry fire fae in her belly, everyone else is getting sent on an emergency camping trip with some unusual local fauna.
Warnings: Camping.

CRYPTIC CAMPGROUNDS

You're given about three hours to prepare, after the Ringmaster tells you her plans for the coming week. There is a vast selection of camping equipment at your disposal, and the means to take along enough food for the length of the stay. The wilderness of the planet you're left on is nearly idyllic, but some people just don't like the great outdoors.

CRYPTOZOOLOGY: As it turns out, the carnival won't be alone here. There is a varied ecosystem of cryptids to be found as well, living in relative peace and mostly reacting to the newcomers with curiousity. More details can be found on the plotting post. You are free to NPC the cryptids as much as you need to, as long as you stick to the behaviours described.

DREAMSHARING: There is a player plot going on which will allow characters to share dreams! These are specifically more dreams than nightmares, and the mushi-adept characters will be here to help.

CHILLAX: There isn't any plot twist for this setting, so this is mostly an opportunity to decompress from the last plot and get ready for the future. The Ringmaster will show up occasionally to help with needed medical treatments and check on things, but won't stick around for long.

'look i get to infograb with my arm it was worth it' - my first thought oops

[personal profile] betheman 2018-06-30 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Auh-

Y-You willfully removed your physical arm..!? [Suffice to say, this is the part he's most freaked about.] Wh- What sort of edge would purposefully doing such a thing ever offer..!?

[As one who only has a repulsor, he doesn't seem entirely aware of just how many rad things can be crammed into one arm!]
seniorvicejanitor: (r061)

that is totally what it's good for! that and looking cool!

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-06-30 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it looks cool.

[ that's one reason! ]

But it's also a computer. Means I can scan over things and figure crap out that I might not know on my own. Handy when you're in a life threatening situation and need to find an escape!
betheman: (o3o)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-06-30 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alright, that wins raised brows.]

It scans anything? In other words, it is capable of an immediate study of what is before you? [If it's doing that for stuff in other worlds after all, it's not pulling from any existing database...

That's pretty impressive!
}
seniorvicejanitor: (r058)

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-06-30 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. It definitely tries.

[ did the scans always turn out helpful and productive? no. but they still scanned and it was still cool! ]

Sometimes, I run into things that it doesn't really know about so it just...gives me what it can.
betheman: (:0)

Since it's the one thing not on his change page; 'beast' features are 'fox' things, if Rhys scans 'm

[personal profile] betheman 2018-06-30 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmn... [Well colour him interested.] I, the man Gongenzaka, confess...I am interested to see what it makes of most of those here, then. The fact that it is able to determine even small amounts of information about those of other realms, is impressive on its own..!

[He sort of wonders what would happen if it scanned HIM. Would it say he was human, or mostly made of magic in the form of plants and animals? Would it give him his age?? (Would Rhys believe the age? He's only 14...)]
seniorvicejanitor: (r062)

thank you!!

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-06-30 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ rhys tilts his head quizzically. ]

You asking me to scan you?

[ he hasn't used that ability much since he'd gotten here but maybe he should've been. a lot of people were interested in it and he got some useful information and impressed people so.

all good things. ]
betheman: (:Da consider)

he's a mess of a bear-horse-fox thing so I felt you could use as much help as possible :'D

[personal profile] betheman 2018-06-30 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gongenzaka nods.] Aauh! At the very least, you would confirm how 'little' is 'little' on average, if you were allowed to scan others, would you not?

It would be better to determine that here, in safety, than on the field where one's life could be affected. [Who knows- that arm could unlock a key answer in 'how to run the heck away'.]
seniorvicejanitor: (r099)

Re: he's a mess of a bear-horse-fox thing so I felt you could use as much help as possible :'D

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, okay.

[ sure, he could do this. he lifts his arms and scans it over gongenzaka.

ANALYSIS COMPLETE
Name: Don't make me spell it, it's so long
Nickname: Man, Then
Is He The Man? You should ask him, he's the man.
Theme Song: What Does the Fox Say?
Why: LOOK AT HIM
Occupation: Duelist/Collector of Beast Features
Who's He Cooler Than: You, Rhys
]

You duel things?
betheman: (o3o)

THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL...

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Excuse him as he blinks with a bit of mild surprise- it's a good thing Dueling is the thing Rhys asked about, on that note, as he would find the arm far less cool if he knew the rest.

Please, don't call him 'the man'-

He begs of you-
] It was able to tell that I am a duelist?

[Well! Since he Never Leaves Without It, he pulls out a deck of cards to answer that question.] Here- where I am from, it is a sort of sport; holograms of the monsters are summoned, and duelists work alongside them to defeat their opponent.

[It's that hologram part that makes it cool instead of REALLY NERDY, honestly.]
seniorvicejanitor: (r059)

THANK YOU :D D:

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ rhys is honestly waiting for maybe a sword or a lance or something long and pointy so to see cards come out is a little confusing. ]

You duel with cards?

[ how did that work and not make you a nerd? he had questions. ]

Do the cards come to life?

[ well, he'd said holograms.]
betheman: (AWWWYEAH 8D)

it's an all monster deck...joey wheeler would be proud tbh...

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-01 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[He can't help but laugh about that; for now, Rhys gets to look at Really Rad Robots.

IT ATTACKS WITH ITS DEFENSE
] In a sense, they certainly do..! Each card bears their own spirit, I should say...but it is through the holograms that each one is able to make their presence known. Some are larger than even I am, at this time! [He adds, laughing further.]

The duels are conducted upon fields of Solid Vision as well- so it is never merely an 'arena', for that matter. There are also cards scattered about the fields...it is quite an active matter, even for those of the 'Steadfast' style, such as myself.

[Staying put is actually Ludicrously Hard when you're being attacked by dragons! Who knew.]
seniorvicejanitor: (r074)

Re: it's an all monster deck...joey wheeler would be proud tbh...

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-01 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
That is...confusing.

[ he's sure it probably makes sense to those that are familiar with it but rhys is not. he still tries to follow along as best he can, nodding and looking t the cards and trying to picture what he was saying. ]

What if your cards suck?
betheman: (well that's shit)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-01 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[There is a somewhat dismissive snort.] It is not so much a matter of if a card 'sucks'...but rather, if you yourself have properly constructed your deck to work with itself properly.

For example- there are many spells which would no doubt be of use in other decks...but within my own, such a decision would be crippling! It is a matter of strategy- there are very few true 'bad cards', after all.
seniorvicejanitor: (r032)

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-01 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ rhys is still wondering about these cards and how they work and if they just sprout weapons or what. ]

Okay, so how do you get the cards?

[ at least this is something to keep him occupied and distracted. ]
betheman: (o3o)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-01 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Mnn...for the most part, packs of them are relatively affordable...it is not uncommon to receive them as gifts as well, however.

Truthfully, gifted cards are often quite important- they carry those feelings from their prior holders, and this seems to reflect in duels, I find..! [It sounds pretty hazy but hey it makes sense where he's from, maybe,]
seniorvicejanitor: (r080)

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-02 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so you buy them.

[ CAPITALISM. something he knew a lot about. too bad money was an issue. ]

And can anyone use them?
betheman: (:0)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Aah, for the most part. Most typically, the schools which teach methods of dueling will offer beginning decks however, and I, the man Gongenzaka, find that instructors tend to understand well what cards to recommend each duelist they teach.

[As it is. He nods.] If one has a duel disk, they can duel.

Naturally, without, you would be limited to the game in card form.
seniorvicejanitor: (r029)

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-02 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ well, that was a drag. ]

So, if I had just the cards, I'd be pretty weak. I'd have to challenge a bad guy to a game of cards and hope this murdersome, awful, disgusting creature likes dumb games?
betheman: (-whispers- U DIDNT DO IT)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-02 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gongenzaka's look is absolutely dry.] Considering the chances of anyone beyond my own realm being interested in a duel, sir, I, the man Gongenzaka, would not recommend seeking out Duel Monsters as a method of combat.

Particularly since they have no interest in causing actual, physical harm.
seniorvicejanitor: (r073)

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-02 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have to ask. I have to!

[ because he'd been wondering about it ever since meeting this guy. he has to know or he's going to go out of his head. ]

Why 'the man'? What does that mean?
betheman: (MMMMMTHAT LOOKS BAD)

the woes of phrases that just. Don't. Translate to English tbh

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-02 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
...Aah...

[And now he simply groans, and deflates a bit- ears drooping not unlike a miserable dog.] That...is 'mistranslation,' [He laments- not exactly a common matter, where the Ringmaster's magic is concerned.

But it happens!
] 'Kono otoko no Gongenzaka', [He forces out, looking quite focused as he does so.] It is Japanese- a form of address meant to express humility, and equal status among others, [He continues with a nod.] ...It is also a manner of speech which I, the man Gongenzaka, was raised to respect, and speak with, so as to show respect to others around myself.

It is not...simply 'the man', [He coughs, shaking himself.] There have been enough 'jokes' about that... [He's gotten tired of said jokes.]
seniorvicejanitor: (r029)

Re: the woes of phrases that just. Don't. Translate to English tbh

[personal profile] seniorvicejanitor 2018-07-02 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ well, rhys was learning a lot today, wasn't he? too bad he'd gotten an explanation for that because he might have fallen into calling himself the man if he wasn't careful.

he can hear jack's laughter in his head and internally shushes him. he could be the man if he wanted to be! ]

We don't have anything like that where I'm from. Sir and madame and I guess mister and miss might be close but yeah, nothing exactly like that.

[ but he was from an insane planet in an insane part of space. ]

I'm not going to joke about it.
betheman: (More Sane Smiles)

[personal profile] betheman 2018-07-02 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[This is, quite completely, more than he could have ever asked for.

If he had known what Rhys' info thing said, he would probably insist that Rhys was the cooler one now, entirely for what he's said just now. He hurriedly nods his head in gratitude, holding back a few over-emotional tears.

Not a lot of people realize that if he cries it's because he's moved, and not sad, so he's made a conscious effort to keep that under control.
] ...Thank you, [he says honestly, smiling.] It means much, that you would tell me this now- you have my complete gratitude..!

[Seriously he's gotten like. Two 'manliness' t-shirts, this means the world Rhys.]
