⇨ WYLD HUNT
Who: Everyone!
When: Day 100
Where: Shabondamashii
What: The Wyld Hunt unexpectedly crashes the Shabon's dimension, leaving chaos in its wake. Those that have been with the carnival for a while might recognize it as the personal army of a fae called the Huntsman - also known as one of the Ringmaster's age old rivals, whom she dethroned thousands of years ago. The last we heard of him, he was pursuing the carnival, and it turns out he found them faster than anyone thought.
Warnings: Violence, theoretical cannibalism.

THE AUTUMN MOON↴![]() There isn't any warning. You might not even notice what's happening at first, with the approach of the threat happening as spontaneously as a zombie uprising. You're minding your own business, enjoying Shabon, when a random alien charges you on foot with sudden and aggressive intent. Whether or not you can throw them off or defeat them, you'll soon find they weren't alone. An entire army is descending upon the city now, and the carnival is the target. ► THEY ARE LEGION: The Wyld Hunt comes in all shapes and sizes, with beasts and men from all kinds of different universes having been caught up in its sway. Those that have been in the Hunt for a long while have more or less completely lost themselves - they now function only as part of a pack, hunting whatever the Huntsman wishes and consuming what their prey leaves behind upon death. Some members of the Hunt are newer and more unsure, but they are all a part of a psychic hive mind that compels them to move as a unit. Everyone in the Wyld Hunt instinctively know what the Huntsman wants them to do, even if they never speak to him. Their skills, powers, and physicalities are all over the board, but there are a notably large quantity of Wyld Fae among them, often being used as mounts by more powerful humanoids within the Hunt. When NPCing members of the Hunt for threading purposes there is a lot of flexibility to what you face, including entities and beasts from your own worlds - provided they are creatures capable of functioning independently. ► HUNT OR BE HUNTED: When set upon by the Hunt, it is easy to become overwhelmed. Unfortunately, in that situation, the only way to beat them is to join them. Beginning to hunt alongside the others will immediately pacify them against you. As soon as you start to follow, the thrum of the Huntsman's will will start to take over - the more you hunt, the harder it is to turn away from it. If you do stop, or successfully oppose the compulsion, they will be quick to set upon you again. Like the others, you will feel the craving to consume any individuals the Hunt has felled - you must resist this, because once you have eaten the prey of the Hunt, you'll be trapped within it indefinitely. ► WORN OUT WELCOME: The people of Shabon are used to crisis, but this is a bit beyond what even they are prepared to tolerate. The Hunt will be causing collateral, both of the human and the material sort. While the workers in Shabon have very well practiced escape procedures in the event of something like this, the other guests are not as fortunate. Plenty of them are capable of fighting back on their own, but they will not always be capable of avoiding the hordes. The longer this goes on, the worse it will get. Eventually, the Shabon workers will realize who the Hunt is after and start actively trying to turn carnival members over to them in order to make it stop. ► IN TWO PARTS: Tragically, this turn of events and the realization that she's managed to put everyone in danger once again will be what finally causes the Ringmaster to split in two. One side will immediately become disinterested in using violence to counter this problem, while the other will be desperate and reckless. This will also completely screw her ability to get anyone back to the carnival in time. There will be at least one Megathread dealing with her actions during this. PLEASE NOTE: This is a conflict the carnival is meant to survive, not win. The main point of this is to get the plot rolling in a new direction, so don't worry about figuring out how to defeat the Huntsman, because in this moment it basically won't be possible. Have fun threading out the crisis, and see where it leads. I wanted to be up front about that, as opposed to letting everyone grasp at straws to prevent a result that will be inevitable, even if the details will shift. |
GONGENZAKA | OTA
[It is perhaps a small misfortune- or a fortune even? (For really, how long would he stand the isolation if he were locked up in the Carnival during this mess)- that has Gongenzaka in Shabon when things turn to hell and back. He's been going back and forth for most of the week; typically to drop off purchases, as he doesn't intend to mess his hotel room up with such things. In this case particularly, it was a tree. Hopefully it does well without him, and also water (or maybe his strange undead pets can handle that? They certainly aren't with him NOW).
Whether or not he's watered the plants is far from his concern when stalls start getting knocked over however. He doesn't even have time to question the incoming horde- they simply charge, and keep charging, and so Gongenzaka stiffens.
And then braces himself with the belt about his waist, aiming his arm.] HMMN!!
Whatever it is you are here for...I, the man Gongenzaka, shall not stand-by!
[Fortunately, he was launching repulsor blasts before the speech. Unfortunately-] Nh-!
[Well unfortunately, not everything is going to be blasted off, and he's entering a physical grapple with more than a few folks.
H E L P]
[Divided Attentions]
[Once he's out of the frying pan, it's far easier to traverse the 'fire'. Particularly since he's pulled out his 'Crown of Flames'- what with it being a simple gem half the time, it's rather easy to keep that on his person at all times (not unlike the belt). Whatever members of the hunt try fire, most are in for a rude surprise. ...Most, anyway. He's yet to encounter any actual Fae in the mess, and he really hopes he doesn't have to.
Marishi is keeping watch, at least.] Hmmm...Head south, Noboru- we've a straggler that way.
[It's a spell they're both familiar with, casting with the ease one would swim. Marishi sits curled upon his back, glowing with aura as she focuses on tracking- while Gongenzaka himself merely focuses on staying alive. They can't canvas the entire realm...but they can canvas as far as the Carnival would have covered from where they stand. So it's something, at least.
Regardless- a rescue is incoming!] BRACE YOURSELF! [He roars, charging into whatever fray there is.] AND GRAB ON! I, the man Gongenzaka, know of a safer location..!
[WILDCARD Gongenzaka will be attempting to ferry others to those with portals and entrances to a sort of protected zone being created by Steven and various others; in general he'll also try to help fight, so hit me up!]
Wildcard
While he's trying to find other carnival members first and foremost, they're not the only ones in danger. He helps what patrons he can clear out of the way and get them running. At one point, this involves a shopkeeper who's navigating the alleys--a rough man in a leather apron that Yuya nearly collides into as he swings around the corner, disappearing as he tries to outpace a couple hunters.
It isn't long, though, before both of then come back out into the light of the street. The shopkeeper holds Yuya tightly with his arms twisting behind his back, boldly coming face to face with the hunters.]
This who you're looking for?! [There's a desperate tone when he speaks, like he's more afraid than he let's on.] You can have him!
W-wait, no--!
no subject
None of them are going to like what happens next.]
Brace yourself! [Comes Marishi's cry- and just as quickly comes a series of wind blasts. While they certainly won't do damage, they ARE pretty forceful...and the handy buffer created might just buy Yuuya a second or two.
At least if that darn shopkeeper lets go.] Yuuya! Grab the vines! [Gongenzaka shouts, hoping for the latter- he charges along a wall, rather than the ground.
While many of the hunting party can fly after all, not nearly so many can..well.
Do that.]
no subject
At least until the wind basically knocks everyone over. Yuya hits the ground with a thud, squirming as he looks up to see.] Gongenzaka!
[He struggles to get to his feet, but still reaches his arm out towards Gon with urgency. Gon had the element of surprise, but the hunters won't stay down for long.]
no subject
It is good that we found you! [He huffs, running as they go.]
Indeed- we've been entirely unable to return to the Carnival so far! Finding a moment of safety is madness!
no subject
There's so many of them... [He murmurs. Can they really outrun this?] If we can find a reflection, I can take us closer!
[Provided he doesn't botch his destination with a lack of focus this time. But they really aren't safe trying to stay in Shabon.]
no subject
Y...Yuuya...
...Yuuya, I think you misunderstood us...
[Though the two don't pause in their run, they certainly aren't looking for reflections.]
Yuuya, we were only just leaving the Carnival when all of this occurred..! It was when we made to return...
...The portal isn't working, Yuuya.
no subject
Yuya's fingers tangle tightly into Gon's yukata, the claws pulling at the fabric.] I... Ignatius said he could try and make a deal with the Huntsman. To spare us, if...
[Did they have any chance to run?]
no subject
Keep moving!, [Marishi hisses however, and so he continues.] Ignatius did?!
Given you're the one explaining this, we'll trust that, but...
...Does Ignatius know whether or not the Huntsman will take it..?
no subject
[Sounds good, but of course there's a caveat.] It means we'd have to be in a contract under him. But he could make it temporary, like the Ringmaster does!
[It's looking increasingly like the best option for them to survive.]
no subject
Better a gamble than what we have now though, [Marishi observes.] Whatever happened that the Ringmaster can't even shout something about everyone taking turns, it isn't likely to be good!
Indeed- At the very least one wonders what we shall be tasked with, during those temporary contracts but... ...Considering he was willing to extend such a deal at all, I, the man Gongenzaka, should think it at least be something better than most would give..!
[Which is to say, they probably won't be fighting faerie wars...right? RIGHT??]
But Yuuya...where exactly do we need to go in order to MAKE that contract?
no subject
[But if the portal's closed, probably not. There's no place anyone can really hide for long. The hunt is relentless.
And it's below them, because while Gon has the advanatage of running on buildings, it isn't subtle. The most warning they get is a couple arrows that dive into the wall just behind Gongenzaka, before the archer aims a little more forward to try and strike him proper.]
no subject
If you sent them there, why on earth were you all the way out here then? [Marishi protests, only to yelp-] NOBORU-!
[Her yell is short, and it's followed by a shout from Gongenzaka as something strikes the side of his flesh arm.] NFF-! Yuuya-! Are you certain they are in the location you sent them?
no subject
I don't know. I can't call them.
no subject
Now now..! [Marishi calls, the pair still running.] We have our own after all! Yuuya- we'll hand you ours...but where Did yours go?
no subject
There's a large crash and a scream that shakes Yuya out of his defeatist thoughts, and he strains to see what it is.] We need to hide somewhere!
no subject
Not to be rude Yuuya, but where on earth are we going to hide exactly?!
[It sadly sounds very rude, though Gongenzaka manages to recover it...somewhat.] ....Perhaps we can at least secure a location for yourself?
[Because. Yeah he's kinda huge and hard to hide.]
no subject
[They don't have an escape right now. Can they really outpace the hunt forever?]
no subject
We really can't run forever though...oh, this is absolutely horrid..!
If enough of us could perhaps create a stronghold...
no subject
He grabs more tightly to his fur, but doesn't have the time to tell Gongenzaka to move faster.]
no subject
What we need is something strategic...a shelter that isn't so easily penetrated...THEN we can 'hide', but...
no subject
It swoops low with a piercing shriek, and Yuya flattens himself against Gon's back to just barely dodge it.] Gongenzaka!
no subject
[YIKES! An extra burst of speed is given, while Marishi darts ahead and straight up slams herself into a window until it shatters.] In here! Quickly!
KH-! If we could at the least gain some distance in order to plan..!
no subject
Stop worrying about that now! [They're in the middle of being chased and probably killed! Distance is the only concern.] Follow Marishi!
no subject
Mnh...We have bought precious moments, but little else, as well...
