Although he eventually came out of the bathroom that first night, Susan still didn't talk to Lauren. Instead he avoided his brother as best he could, falling asleep curled up with Fluff (and Stanley, if she let him) on the bed.

The next day he went out, even though Lauren had told him not to; he didn't know a lot about vampires, and even though he felt bad doing it (especially when he was still worried about Lauren), he was pretty sure they couldn't go out in the sun, so it was an easy way to not have to talk to him. He didn't want another argument, not any more - not that he knew what else to do, not when he was feeling pretty bad now, but that didn't matter. He just didn't want Lauren to yell at him and tell him he's wrong.

By that night, though, he still wasn't feeling any better - and even though he still didn't want to really talk to his brother, he still missed him and wanted to be with him.

Once it was late, and he was sure Lauren would be asleep, Susan quietly left the sofa where he'd been originally planning on sleeping, instead slipping into the room with his brother. From there he quietly made his way to the bed, climbing under the covers while being as careful as he could to not wake him.

day 71

After everything that had happened, Susan still tried to go out and enjoy himself the next day. Luckily there was enough to do that he was at least distracted from what had happened with his magic and the vampires, and so it wasn't too bad.

But the day after, when he realized Lauren was going somewhere with the Ringmaster, he couldn't help but get worked up all over again.

"You can't go!" Apparently yelling and holding on to his brother's arm was his way of trying to stop him...

Lauren hadn't even gotten up to leave yet and already he was being hold in place. He really couldn't understand Susan's reaction.

"It's just in the forest."

"It doesn't matter where it is, you still can't go!"

[mylastchance]

He's only getting more confused by the second.

"Why not?"

[wild_magic]

"Because I don't trust her!"

[mylastchance]

It's such a total exasperating thing for Susan to say. Lauren doesn't understand, and honestly at the moment he doesn't care to.

"What else could she possible be up to?"

[wild_magic]

"I don't know, maybe she's decided it's easiest to just kill all the vampires!"

[mylastchance]

"Susan." He really doesn't think that's the case, but he can't really prove to Susan it won't either.

"So you just want me to stay as a vam... a vampire forever?"

[wild_magic]

He shakes his head angrily.

"No, I just don't trust her!"

[mylastchance]

"I'm not saying you should trust her, just that there isn't any other choice here!"

[wild_magic]

He just angrily turns to glare at the table, then. He doesn't like this, but what can he do about it?

"Susan..." Lauren groans, his voice turning into a whine as he reaches for his little brother's sleeve.

"It'll be fine."

[wild_magic]

He vaguely tugs his arm to try and free his arm, his anger already to dissipate into just frustration.

"I don't want anything to happen to you."

[mylastchance]

He lets go, allowing Susan to move freely.

"I don't want anything to happen to me either."

[wild_magic]

"Then don't go! We can find another way..."

[mylastchance]

He sighs, trying to think of what he can possibly say to make this seem okay.

"There isn't another way." he looks to Susan, holding his gaze. "We both need help."

He looks away after a moment, resting his head on his arms on the table.

"I don't like this."

[mylastchance]

He knows that already. Lauren doesn't like it much either. He rests a hand on Susan's back. He doesn't know what to say, but he's here at least.

He shifts a little as the hand on his back presses his tunic on his wings funny, but otherwise he doesn't move. He just wishes there was another way, one that didn't involve having to try and trust the Ringmaster.

Day 75

It's maybe a few hours after his desperate plea for help that he begins to act on the other's advice. It was strange, before he'd felt desperate and helpless. Now, he had a feeling like maybe there really was something he could do. It felt ridiculous. Susan hadn't even done anything since that day he'd attacked the Ringmaster, Lauren knew any outsider looking in wouldn't understand his concern. At the same time, that his young brother who had always been so cheerful and positive would attack someone and speak with such vehemence... He couldn't help his concern.

Though Susan may have been without magic at the moment, he was normally very powerful. Susan also wasn't accustomed to losing. His younger brother had the careless optimism of a child, because he was a child. Lauren knew Susan wouldn't take his concerns seriously, he never did. That still wasn't any reason not to try. If things were as dire as they felt, and he believed they were, then he had to do everything he could to stop Susan from hurting anyone else or himself. When Susan comes back to the trailer, he knew he had to talk to him then, or else he might loose his nerve.

"Susan, we need to talk."

Susan hadn't really been up to much, even with being in a new place; he didn't really want to explore by himself, but he was feeling just cooped up inside, so he mostly had just been wandering aimlessly about with Fluff.

He's slightly surprised when Lauren says that as soon as he enters the trailer, but he just shrugs a little in response.

"Okay."

Okay. He could totally do this. He just wanted to be honest, and express himself directly. It was hard for him, not because he wanted to be indirect, not at the exact moment at least, but because it was so hard for him to accurately communicate his own thoughts and feelings. He could do this, he just had to focus.

"I'm... Worried about you... More than usual."

Susan comes further in and sits down while he waits for Lauren to put the words together, Fluff jumping right up into his lap where he absently pets her as he watches Lauren.

He frowns a little at his brother's words.

"You don't have to worry about me."

He shakes his head, looking serious.

"No, I do..." And not just because Susan won't worry about himself, and not just because Lauren cares for him, but because they're family too.

"...Nana and Father entrusted me to take care of you..."

It was his most important responsibility, if he couldn't do that he might as well give up on everything else too.

"And... I care for you too..." There wasn't usually a need for that to be said, but just in case he wants Susan to know anyway.

Susan wasn't really expecting a response like that, only expecting their normal banter or something of the sort, and so he's caught off guard and he looks away, focusing on his cat instead. He knows Lauren cares, and he knows it's important, he just doesn't understand why Lauren thinks he needs worrying about when he's fine.

"I just mean, nothing's wrong, so, you don't have to worry."
