My fair faire
Who: Erryone
When: Day 170, right before leaving for Heartstone Manor
Where: The cookhouse
What:dinner and a show A crash course in table etiquette, and/or your chance to get your bad behavior out of your system.
Warnings: Watch your damn language.
With the threat of behave or die hanging over their heads, Hinawa is feeling very nervous. She's only tangentially familiar with the rules and regulations of formal dining and mingling, having only experienced it for the first time during the Celebration, and for the most part she's just a simple country gal. The last thing she wants is to get everyone in trouble because she used the wrong fork, and she can't help but feel like she's not the only one, so she comes up with a plan!
She only hopes it'll be enough.
[This is a mingle-ish! Jump on in!]

And it's also made him more aware that he should probably do a last minute maintenance check before they leave, especially since it sounds like the Nightriders are going to have their hands full this trip. But after checking in with Strange to sort out the map and the primer -- he'd skipped out on rehearsal to check on all his internal systems -- he realised he had a dilemma.
Why is carrying an exposed weapon such an offense?! Sword coverings are for people who need to attach it to themselves. Which he doesn't need to. What's the big problem??
On such short notice, he can only come up with a quick solution, which involves seeing Carly. He pokes his head in, sword floating at his back. This time, his eyes are uncovered; thanks Strange. "Hey Carly. I know you're busy and all, but could I ask a favour from you? It'll be really simple, promise!"

They'll be off in just an hour, quite likely.
And yet in comes a voice-and for a moment she thinks of Peridot, and the Engineer's moaning on the radio. The quick shouts to not say anything, that she was only looking for advice, and-
....
...She forces a smile on her face, and turns. "Eh? Well, actually, it looks like I'm about to be...really not busy," she laughs, rubbing her head. "So.... No problems there..!"
Ahem.
"...What is it?"

He acts as if he doesn't see it; the time for talk can come later. Despite 2B's oft repeated reminders for him to not get distracted, business always comes first. Feelings have to wait.
"It's this." To demonstrate, 9S lifts a hand, a glowing yellow ring forming around his wrist as he floats his sword in front of him. "Strange told me an exposed weapon is gonna be rude. I don't really get it, but if it'll cause a lot of trouble, I need it covered. Fabric should be good enough."
no subject
That said. The numbers are already running through her head. Length, width, where she could make the scabbard stick... "Hmmm...we don't have time to make anything new... ...but I might have a scabbard that won't look out of place..."
no subject
When Carly tells him about the scabbard, 9S brightens. "Great!" That sounds a lot better than bagging it in fabric. It'll probably look less stupid, too. "As long as the scabbard can stay on without being strapped to me..."

Sometimes, Carly can be so overwhelming. 9S follows after her.
"Here, let me help."
He doesn't work here but how hard can it be to find something? 9S picks through the supplies at a more leisurely pace.
no subject
"Aha~" A simple scabbard is pulled out. "Here we are, this should fit.."
no subject
"Looks a bit big, but it should do the job. Think you can attach some cord to it?"
no subject
She sets all three things on the table once 9S is done comparing, nodding confidently. "Okay! We should be able to use this! I'll just loop it through the decorations, and then you can loop it over the sword when it's sheathed."
no subject
He's happy to wait while she fixes up the scabbard for him.
no subject
"Here-try this."
no subject
As expected, the cord holds it in place.
"Looks like it worked."
With a single deft motion, he returns his sword to its usual place at his back, now covered with the scabbard.
"Thanks, Carly."
no subject
no subject
He's not leaving it behind, though.
"I can still do my job without it, don't worry."
In fact, he has to not use it, thanks to everyone else being organic and unable to receive the data he could otherwise simply transmit.

"What's a tie?"
Since it sounds like she will probably want to demonstrate, 9S unties the 'blindfold' from his face and holds it out with one hand.
no subject
"...It'll match well with whatever you're wearing, that way; hidden in plain sight."
no subject
It looks annoying.
"Hm. I'll give it a try."
He pulls it undone and tries to recreate what Carly did. He does the steps correctly, but it comes out looking crooked and not at all neat. He futilely tries to neaten it, but nope.
no subject
no subject
"I'll keep that in mind."
In other words, nope. A tie just doesn't seem to be his style.
Well then... "I think that's it." Scabbard, get. Visor tied. Yep. "So I'll get going. Thanks again, Carly."
no subject
It's a somewhat chilling 'good luck'...but 9S will probably be fine.
...Probably.
no subject
"Oh, don't worry about me." 9S grins, his voice taking on a cocky lilt. "I'm a Scanner. I'm built for scouting. You worry more about yourself, Carly. I'll be fine."
And with that, 9S heads on out.
