⇨ THE HUNT

Who: Everyone!
When: Day 173, the Afternoon
Where: Heartstone Manor Courtyard
What: Everyone goes into the forest with arrows, swords, and horses and is told to hunt and the kill the biggest beast they can find. Best kills win a prize! Or, if you'd rather not, you can wander around the forest and pretend to hunt instead.
Warnings: Violence and ethical quandaries.

BEASTS OF BURDEN

Come the day of the Hunt, everyone will be brought to the courtyard forest and provided with arrows, bows, and blades as requested. Magic and other weaponry can be used to hunt, but it is suggested by the Prince that the best kill is the one done in a gentlemanly manner, which probably means he will be most impressed by those using the tools provided.

The "Best Kill" will be determined from a mixture or whatever beast the Prince decides is best, and the method in which it was killed. The less damage done to the body the better - tearing the body apart will receive poor grades.

The corpses are not yours to eat or keep, and all must be returned to the Prince at the end of the day for judgment.

The servants are especially nervous, tense, and solemn today, and unless they have no choice, most of them will be trying to give the courtyard a wide berth. Those that have to serve will have stony expressions, or at best will be trying to put on a cheerful face.

If casually asked why they are upset, most of them will say something vague about the Hunt making them nervous, and how dangerous it is to participate.

OOC: Those who make top levels will have a chance to be randomly selected for a couple particular plot events, so be prepared for that.

Lambert's answer just puts Rita in an even worse mood than she's already in. "Great. And any number of them could be people, getting killed right now as we speak." Some of them are probably already dead.

"Despicable... This is why I'll never trust fae," she mutters, seething and clenching one fist, the other hand still bracing the woman's head as gently as she can with all the tension in her body.

Strange just can't help but raise an eyebrow at Rita's anger. She'll never trust fae. Really now. Oh, he could go on about it's silly to judge an entire species by who they've met, they've literally met a handful of fae, and so on and so forth. But really, there's a naked unconscious woman at their feet, now isn't the time.

"I'm sure the Ringmaster will be pleased to hear that," he simply responds, giving Rita a bit of a Look as Strange bends down to get a better look at the bicorn woman. This certainly doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Strange is still a big fan of the Ringmaster, why would you think that.

"It's a pity, though. If this were a smaller amount, I could try and disenchant everybody. But there's no use trying to work the magic when I don't know how many animals there are to begin with."

"Better hope the rest of the carnival's shit at killing things, then," Lambert says, matter-of-factly. He isn't going to bother addressing Rita's declaration about hating the fae, since it's abundantly self-evident that she's found some value in working for one. Besides, anger is a good thing. Anger keeps you going.

"The Prince might've felt you break that enchantment. Let's hope he didn't notice."

"You can tell her I said that," Rita casually retorts, entirely unashamed of the sweeping generalization. The Ringmaster might not be outwardly malicious like most fae, but does Rita trust her? Not entirely.

Lambert's warning gets her thinking, and she sighs. "Right... fae can sometimes be sensitive to magic disturbances within their domain." It's something she vaguely remembers from her Portland counterpart, the one who always tried to conceal her magic presence for fear that the fae would pick up on it. "What a pain." She sounds more annoyed than worried, though. No point in fretting over what's already been done.

"I'd like to think we were more subtle than that," Strange grumbles, knowing full well they were not more subtle than that. Still, now that Lambert and Rita have brought up that point, he can't help but frown. Strange is already on the shitlist of three different fae...he'd rather not be added to the shitlist of another.

"Well, no matter what, he's certainly going to notice a naked woman parading back to the start of the Hunt. Once she comes to, we'll need to figure out what to do with her."

Strange...has no idea.

"That's why we'll need Syrlya and Scout." At least, they'd be able to hide her from sight. From sound and from smell, that's another matter entirely. Damn, 9S is definitely taking his time, isn't he?
