Who: Everyone! But especially HARBINGERS!
When: S2:D16-22
Where: All over Wismuth!
What: As the Harbingers reveal themselves, those among the carnival that Creation has chosen will start to discover new powers within themselves. It's because they're magical girls, yo.
Warnings: Harbingers being assholes.

HARBINGERS OF VOID↴

On Day 16, the Harbingers begin revealing their new selves... in the form of wreaking havoc on the city! CY-Ren isn't looking for mass panic or serious structural damage - instead she wants constant annoyances and distractions, of the sort that will keep those that might be on her tail distracted from her true plans. However, when Creation is faced with the threat of twelve new Harbingers, it will have to fight in kind...

► HARBINGERS: Your job is to use your powers to create messes for other people to clean up! CY-Ren gives no specific instructions outside of a general framework... flex your powers! See what you can do. Don't destroy the city or anything, but give Creation a run for its money. She needs these civilians alive for her later plans.

► STAR GUARDIANS: Twelve members of the carnival have been chosen by Creation to fight in its name, even if they don't realize it yet. When confronted by the Harbinger's chaos, their Sparks will make themselves known in whatever form is appropriate to the character - and they will be asked if they are willing to use the power of their soul to fight the darkness. How this scene plays out can be flexible, but essentially they will find themselves faced with the question: are they willing to fight for the preservation of life? If they say yes, their Spark will emerge, and they will be able to trigger a magical girl transformation, as you do.

► CHARITY CONCERT: While everyone else is busy with the sudden rise of the Harbingers, CY-Ren's PR team is releasing a statement -- they will say that new information has revealed that there had been bomb threats made against the canceled concert, which are now being blamed for the damages. CY-Ren will make a personal statement, saying that in order to apologize for the failure of her previous performances, a new free to attend event is being planned for the near future - people who had tickets to the previous event and had to go home early get top priority!

[Yeah, Papyrus has been looking pretty unsure about the havoc and destruction they're supposed to be wreaking. Doing his best to preen and pose and look powerful, whenever CY-Ren or one of the other more determined sorts is around... and slouching, and frowning at nothing in particular, when they're not.

He's doing just that when Carly grabs him and begins chatting tactics - and more importantly style - at him.]

I don't disagree with you! [He exclaims, and yet.] But...

[Really, what he wants is for everyones' pain to stop right now. There's no need for chaos and confusion, when the Void gave him the gift of peaceful escape! So, why did CY-Ren insist...?]

Uh... W-we should make sure, they enjoy it too! With good speeches! Ominous foreshadowing! And the like.

Mmm, good speeches and omnious foreshadowing are DEFINITELY good points! [Papyrus is getting a firm, agreeing nod!] If anything, those should be a given! What are the bad guys known for in any show? Speeches! Poses! Setting the mood in a way that just has to get attention! [she cheers, pumping a fist.]

Ahh, but because of that, you have to be careful about how they're enjoying it! It's not something to enjoy like an ice cream, but more....a drama, or a horror!

We won't be rooted on at all, but they'll be totally awestruck anyway! Does that make sense?

It... Yeah! I think it makes sense! [He's getting amped up now.]

They'll be so impressed by our moves and words... they won't have time to dwell on confusion and fear?? Just a moderate dose of those things... mixed into admiration for our performance! Poised on the edges of their seats! Even when they're not sitting.

[Guys, no, confusion and fear are exactly what the boss wants you two sow, stop trying to wiggle around your orders.]

Well confusion is okay-but not too much confusion. They have to know exactly what we're up to after all! [A bit of balance is good.]

It's the same for fear-like you said, they can't dwell! We have to give them the anticipation, the thrill of the moment that keeps things going!

A final big bang isn't a final big bang if you're in a corner all huddled up!

[Guys no-

stop-] So...a monologue is perfect! Engaging! If we use the right words, we'll have the perfect storm of chaos and attention..!

Oh, and here we behold CY-Ren's genius: I am quite the craftsman of monologues...!

Even the most mundane of activities... I can find the words to drag them out, and draw out reasons to be interested.

[He's finally getting into it. This is more like it, this is how it should be: posturing and pontification, as prelude to proper fear.]

Such important business as this, the words should flow from our mouths like a mountain spring!

And I've been working with stage management for...well, ages!~ We can definitely set the scene to perfection for these speeches!

We'll draw them in, let them behold the majesty of the chaos~! [See, this can be Fun. It'll be great! Ah-]

Ah...though, we should probably make sure we can. Make the 'chaos'. ...I think I still have my energy fire...which is good for walls and lines?

Fire walls...

[Was he being cutely excited before? No, he wasn't, because this is cutely excited. Papyrus gasps, clutches his cheekbones, and emits a happy little sound.]

Oh my god! Carly! Are... Are you suggesting we make puzzles??

[It's been so long...]

[Oh.

Oh god.

Holy. Shit.] ....I....

I didn't think of that..! [But now that Papyrus says it, well!] But it's perfect..! We have to distract people, don't we..?

What could be more distracting than a puzzle!?

Nothing at all! They're the most perfect distraction there is!!!

The mysteries they pose, the challenge of solving them, the satisfaction with success - or, the grisly demise with failure!! [Both are plausible and equally fine.]

Built as obstacles in the usual paths, they're unavoidable! Puzzle haters are distracted with their complaining, puzzle lovers pour their attention into them, and... puzzle indifferents get the best of both worlds?

Really, I can't believe how few people use puzzles. Monsters relied on them! [Maybe because building puzzles seemed safer than direct confrontations, once they'd burrowed into Home.]

Hmmm!!! It's probably because we're just not 'fun' normally. If you've been looking at humanity so far, you know there's a reason we're here after all... [Clearly if they had loved PUZZLES, they wouldn't be necessary.]

Puzzle indifferent will learn to love or hate, so it's perfect anyway! We get the best of all worlds, no matter what~! Mnnhhh, but where to start...I have...fire, and I guess I have string...

W-Well, but, I'm sure it's not their fault they're awful? Being part of this world... [That it's deserved, rather than a consequence of the world itself breaking them into being awful... It's an intriguing notion, but one he has to disagree with. Especially in the privacy of his own skull, where she won't hear him disagreeing too hard.]

Anyway, I have plenty of bones! [he offers, to no surprise to anybody.] And surely I could whip up something with some simple engineering, some supplies from a nearby dump... But, hmm. Is that cheating?? We're supposed to use our powers, not lean on our old lives' things. [What a conundrum.]

Hmmmm...maybe we shouldn't think about that part. [Since, y'know, it would lead to why They are Also Kinda Awful. BUT ANYWAY.]

Hmmnn...I don't think it'd be cheating! [She insists quickly.] We're using them as a stepping stone, and another tool-for the things that are important! Our powers become the part that holds it all together and REALLY makes it count!

Ah... ...hey what are your powers anyway...

That makes sense...!

[On the one hand, they had to think about what makes everything so awful in order to realize what they need to do... and part of what makes Papyrus awful, is his willingness to just brush aside awful things. On the other hand, they already know what they need to do. It would just be time-wasting to keep focusing on it!

Some ways, they're really not that changed.]

But, uh... My spark is, the spark of dreams? Which sounds like... hope? Which is meaningless, now, so maybe... sleep powers??

[He doesn't understand, why this.]

Well, mine is fulfillment, so...same..? ...On hope, I guess. I just think that in my case, it's tying things off before the big ending~

[There is a pause, as she considers that, and...] Ohhhh!! We could make people sleep and dream their way to the life finished at its fullest, so they disappear without any regrets at the end~

...but also they have to fight for it through the puzzle!

[It made sense in her head, she's not sure it made sense coming out.]

[He nods sagely along with her, making some kind of sense of it all - whether or not it's the sense she intended.]

And! If they collapse in the puzzle..!

That's actually okay. But they should think they have to go through it.

Exactly!

But you know, people in the middle of the puzzle could make others really try harder to beat it too!
