CRYPTIC CAMPGROUNDS↴![]() You're given about three hours to prepare, after the Ringmaster tells you her plans for the coming week. There is a vast selection of camping equipment at your disposal, and the means to take along enough food for the length of the stay. The wilderness of the planet you're left on is nearly idyllic, but some people just don't like the great outdoors. ► CRYPTOZOOLOGY: As it turns out, the carnival won't be alone here. There is a varied ecosystem of cryptids to be found as well, living in relative peace and mostly reacting to the newcomers with curiousity. More details can be found on the plotting post. You are free to NPC the cryptids as much as you need to, as long as you stick to the behaviours described. ► DREAMSHARING: There is a player plot going on which will allow characters to share dreams! These are specifically more dreams than nightmares, and the mushi-adept characters will be here to help. ► CHILLAX: There isn't any plot twist for this setting, so this is mostly an opportunity to decompress from the last plot and get ready for the future. The Ringmaster will show up occasionally to help with needed medical treatments and check on things, but won't stick around for long. |

He shifts in place, then lies back, folding his arms behind his head. There's nothing new to look at above them - just little particles of light drifting into the air from the river, like an otherworldly imitation of the night sky.
"Light veins like these are part of what allows the world to live, and yet most people can't even come here to see them. ...We're both pretty lucky that way."
no subject
"You're right. It makes a lot of things harder sometimes, but it's a privilege too." She stretches her arm out towards the river, just to watch the light between her fingers. Scout feels heavily weighted down, but not in a bad way. "It would be a shame to miss this."

Fully and entirely, with both the difficulty and privilege. He supposes it's not his ability to see mushi and the light veins that really brought on his problems - but the way he and his body interact with the light vein, with mushi, with nature... it's still part of that. They can't be separate from each other, and, for better or worse, none of it can be separated from him.

Time passes easily. Eventually something occurs to Scout, and she looks over.
"What's up with your eye, anyway?"
no subject
Ginko wasn't expecting that question, but he supposes he should have.
He's quiet for a few moments before replying, weighing how much to say, balancing what he's willing to say with the knowledge of how much she deserves to know after she saw. The environment they're in helps some - not in the way that intoxication or sleeplessness might loosen his tongue, but enough for him to speak a little more easily.
"What you saw back then was a mushi, called tokoyami. There's no eye in that socket at all; I lost it long ago."
no subject
"Tokoyami," she says consideringly, trying out the sound of the word. "Is it going to blossom like that on its own? Is it contagious?"
Ginko's a responsible sort and she doesn't think it will easily spread. If it did, though... well, sure, someone can get by fine with one eye, but it's not something she wants to try.
no subject
When it is active, of course, he's not so sure about. But so long as it stays put in his eye socket, it shouldn't be a problem.
no subject
Scout muses, "So there's something that activates it. Is it in the rest of your body too? Does it thread into your optic nerve - oh, is that why you can see mushi?"
no subject
"It's just in the eye socket, so far as I know. And... I can't be sure, but I wouldn't be inclined to assume that; the ability to see mushi can be brought on by encounters with them, but some people just seem to be born with the ability."
no subject
He seems unconcerned about the tokoyami, but she's got to ask. "If something else does manage to get it to do that again, somehow - what do you want people to do?"
no subject
He hesitates, and... for a moment, he does look sort of troubled. It's not like the possibility isn't something he's thought of before, but he certainly hasn't made a habit of talking to others about what to do if it happens, since... well, until the past couple years, it was most likely that if the tokoyami took him it would be without anyone else nearby. It just didn't seem likely enough to be worth worrying people with.
But, after Wismuth, and since she's asking... "If there's no obvious way to stop it? Just keep your distance. When it's in that state, it may well have a risk of spreading to other people."
